REACTION PAPER ON THE GOVERNMENT EFFORTS IN FIGHTING ON COVID-19

Philippine Government is disappointment but not surprise to me especially the

priority now of government officials is corruption instead of helping their constituents or
their community. A lot of Philippine money has been wasted because of corruption and
their negligence like today's issue about PPE sold by the Chinese that we should be able
to get cheaper price if the Procurement Service of the Department of Budget and
Management (PS-DBM) favored local manufacturers will supply certified medical - grade
personal protective equipment (PPE) that could have helped people to maintain their job
but instead they lose their job when they favor Pharmally Pharmaceutical Corporation will
import the supplies. Also, the issue about the expired COVID-19 test kits bought by the
Department of Health (DOH) which has 7,925 expired test kits that could have been
capable of 371,794 tests that worth of P550 Million. In short, it’s like we are burning money
while so many people are dying. Instead of saving money on the purchase of PPE, the
government could have allocated it to buying vaccines for the people and the expired test
kits would have been used or they would have conducted mass testing in areas with high
levels case of COVID-19 positive, to control the increase in COVID-19 positive cases
especially now the delta variant is more contagious and dangerous. Lastly, about the
issue of health workers’ benefits and allowances. Last month I saw a health worker's
Facebook post about the benefits he got from the government that the only amount he
got was less than P1,000 from April to June it's too late to give the lower of their benefits
like they only have more than P300 benefits per month and the low wage for them. They
are like the hero of this pandemic, but our government does not pay attention to them.
Well to be honest I really don’t expect much to our government especially if our President
is President Duterte because of corruption and it feels like he acts like demon including
his cabinet secretaries. Especially now that we are going to have another election, instead
of helping the people under their jurisdiction, they will prioritize the destruction so that
they can get the votes of the people. My cousin said that what she will choose in the
election is less evil than more evil, at least less evil will happen in the Philippines in six
years.
