BIBLICAL INTERNAL ASSESMENT

1. Identify the text in the New Testament where the Beatitudes are
found
Matthew 5: 3 – 11

2. Name the place where this story took place

On a mountainside in Galilee

3. State one type of audience present when this story took place
Jesus’ disciples or His students

4. Outline the number of teachings that took place in the Beatitudes

1. ‘Blessed are the poor in spirit for theirs is the kingdom of heaven’
2. ‘Blessed are those who mourn for they will be comforted’
3. ‘Blessed are the meek for they will inherit the earth’
4. ‘blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness for they will
be filled’
5. ‘Blessed are the merciful for they will be shown mercy’
6. ‘Blessed are the pure in heart for they will see God’
7. ‘Blessed are the peacemakers for they will be called sons of God’
8. ‘Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness for
theirs is the kingdom of heaven’
9. ‘Blessed are you when people insult you , persecute you and falsely say
all kinds of evil against you because of me’

5. Choose one of Jesus’ teachings to be used in this task

Matthew 5: 8
“Blessed are the pure in heart for they will see God”

6. Give two other biblical texts which are similar to what you have
chosen in number 5
1. John 20: 29b

‘‘Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have come to believe”

2. Proverbs 16: 20

“Whoever gives heed to instructions prospers, and blessed is he who trusts in the Lord”

7. Rewrite Jesus’ teaching (chosen in number 5) in your own words

Those who have perfect hearts will be beheld by His greatness. Moreover, Lucky ones who
are clean in mind, body and soul, God will favour them the most. This teaching or beatitude
is rather one of the most significant blessings of all beatitudes, for all blessings must be
blessed by PURE hearts .However, those who are meek must have pure hearts to obey what
the Lord says. Those who hunger and thirst for righteousness will be filled with purified
souls. Those with pure hearts will show mercy and forgiveness for the Lord will also show
mercy to them. Pure in heart will become peacemakers. They will know better to stop what
is wrong and encourage others to do what is right. Pure hearts would not persecute or treat
others cruelly. But those who are treated badly and severely within righteousness and pure
insides will own the kingdom of heaven. These beatitudes are all tied up to the beatitude I
have chosen. Nothing will be out or far from being ‘Pure in Hearts’ for no one would show
mercy, become a peacemaker and obey the Lord without a pure heart. They will be one with
God and see him till eternity.

8. State the method of teaching Jesus used in the beatitudes

He used the beatitudes in saying of his morals and lessons

9. Describe the type of audience present when Jesus taught this text
Throughout Matthew 5, the Rabbi teaches all kinds of lessons and morals to the crowds that
followed him and also his students. The students might have not known what Jesus was
talking about but they were meek and obeyed what he told them to do. The disciples had
followed Him because they believed in Jesus’ doings. They trusted every word that came out
of his mouth, they believed his every miracle and healing. Also, they were alive within
Christ.

10. Summarise the main idea in your discussion

Main Idea: ‘Pure in heart will have a free way towards His

Kingdom’

 Purified hearts will be noticed by the eyes of God and God will invite them to His
kingdom and sit by His right – hand side of His throne.
 Having mercy to others is a MUST. Learn how to organise fears, burdens and
happiness. For if you share and care to others, speak wise to others and aid others in
times of sorrow, the Lord will cherish your life, lift you upon His shoulders and carry
your heavy load. He will let you enter the narrow gate to life without regretting.
 Inviting God into our lives will give us a free ticket towards His kingdom if we: grow
the seed of righteous in our hearts, follow his instructions and teachings, regret our
wrong doings and let the Lord lighten our heavy burdens.
 Jesus needs us to understand the way of God. That way we can see God and live an
eternal life, for that’s the pure of the heart and the righteous of the soul.
 God will encourage our mind, body, and soul and lead a path to Him so he can change
us. He will re-birth us through his holiness and glory.
 This is a promising blessing God has provided for us ; Pure heart = see God

11. List two ways in which this teaching be used in the classroom
1. Love your enemies and pray for those who are cruel to you

2. Teach others about the bible and show them what you know about HIS kingdom
12. Relate this teaching (chosen in number 5) to similar teachings of
Jesus in the New Testament
Matthew 5: 8 refers to the clean hearted seeing God in his kingdom. John 20:29b states those
who believe in God will see Him through the eyes of their faith not by the eyes of their
physical bodies. Thomas hadn’t believed in Gods resurrection. He told his fellow disciples
that he needed to see for himself the nail marks in Jesus’ hands and side, also put his hands
through them for proof or else he wouldn’t believe. For this lesson Thomas had to have a
pure heart to believe in Jesus’ resurrection. After Jesus had let Thomas have evidence of his
presence, Jesus said, “Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those
who have not seen and yet have believed” (John 20: 29). In Proverbs 16: 20, is a blessing for
those who follow Gods instructions will be fortunate and be blessed if they gain trust in the
Lord. Prospered hearts will always trust in the Lord, for they shall heed his commands. Never
shall the Lord turn away from them but let hearts full with pure see his kingdom through his
grace.

13. Express how this teaching is useful to your everyday life

Being pure inside teaches us to love, give and be obedient. This verse is in use when it comes
to bed times. For example, if two people quarrel, purity inside wouldn’t solve this conflict.
Matthew 5: 8 tells us; for those who are clean in mind, body and soul shall be blessed also be
ONE with God. It will be a waste of time if you are pure with words and dark inside, for you
shall be exactly like the scattered seeds on the rocky ground. Your purity shall endure for
only a while, but when trouble arises you fall away from what Matthew 5: 8 says.

14. Explain how this teaching was important to Jesus’ audience at that
time
The significance of this teaching to his students is that Jesus hopes them to follow his
teachings. Whether they are pure inside, trust him they’d be prospered by his grace and seek
wisdom to his kingdom. Jesus needs his disciples to create all people of the world as his
students. Create them to follow in his footsteps, spread out the word and spread out his
teachings for all to obey, for fortunate miracles shall be shed upon them. For example, in
Matthew 28: 19 says, “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the
name of the Father and of the Son and the Holy Spirit”. Jesus had told his disciples to make,
create all people as his own and be baptised by our blessed trinity. The result of this job Jesus
had told his disciples to do, is that he shall be with those full of purity or those who are re –
born till the end of age and to swiftly take them into gods kingdom.

15. Evaluate the significance of this teaching for us now

It is importance for us nowadays is that we can help others by showing those of need for the
bible to lighten their pathways to justify, to seek and to find the kingdom of heaven. Most
importantly, for the heart to be pure. If you are pure inside out, you would be cherished by
Gods loving embrace. It teaches us to obey, be patient, be respectful, be brave and to always
love each other just the way you love yourself (golden rule). Knowledge and skill are not
seeked by God. Purity is the only valuable subject needed in his kingdom. We must learn the
lessons or morals Jesus has given us to share it to our family, neighbours, society, villagers
and nation-wide.

16. Suggest one way in which this teaching is relevant to you when
you make a testimony to your group
“Maintain the Lords instructions”

If I were to make a testimony, I would firstly relate the verse chosen, Matthew 5: 8 ;
“Blessed are the pure in heart for they will see God”, to let my group or listeners understand
my testimony. Reading the bible everyday will develop your senses to read the bible daily.
The daily you read the daily you grow, into a better woman or man.

Fulfilling the ‘Law of God’ is a very difficult thing to do. This is because, no one here on
earth is as holy as God. We tend to stay righteous and full of pureness but always fall into
danger. For example, I try hard not to lie but end up not holding my tongue and lie many
times. Sin to me is a very easy – peasy thing to do. But to testify my experience from the
bible, I Stay away from evil, stay away from danger, stay away from cheekiness; stay away
from the wicked, and from greediness.

The Lord calls out to our soul, but some of us don’t answer. Some tell him “Oh no!
Please Lord! I’m not ready to let go of my possessions yet! I’ll call when I’m ready!” But
judgement day strolls by, and you call out the Lords name at the very last moment before
your trial and beg Him for forgiveness. The Lord would NEVER answer the calls of the
hypocrites for that was a sin our very first parents had done (Adam and Eve).

Following the Lords commands and laws are the rightful thing to do for if the Lord hadn’t
any mercy on his people we would have been dead by now. Although, the Lord sheds his
wisdom, light, knowledge, love and purity upon us to encourage our souls to follow in his
footsteps into seeing his kingdom. He encourages us to stay strong and stand tall in changing
our own lives from sinful hearts to gracious, loving and purified hearts.

Maintaining Gods laws and rules shall lead to a better life, for strong in WILL is to seek, to
find and not to yield. Success shall be given as a reward for being very helpful and clean in
mind, body and soul. It’s a very beautiful sound in our ears as for a very good news. May the
Lord continue blessing those who are pure in heart for they shall see the man above.
