नव�ह�ो�

जपाकुसुमसंकाशं का�पेयं महा�ु�त� ।

तमोऽिरं सव�पाप�ं �णतोऽ�� �दवाकर� ॥ १॥

I pray to the Sun, the day-maker, destroyer of

all sins, the enemy of darkness, of great
brilliance, the descendent of KAshyapa, the
one who shines like the japA flower .
द�धश�तुषाराभं �ीरोदाण�वसंभव� ।
नमा�म श�शनं सोमं श�ोमु�कुटभूषण� ॥ २॥

I pray to the Moon who shines coolly like curds

or a white shell, who arose from the ocean
of milk, who has a hare on him, Soma, who
is the ornament of Shiva's hair .
धरणीगभ�संभूतं �व�ु�ा��सम�भ� ।
कुमारं श��ह�ं तं म�लं �णमा�ह� ॥ ३॥

I pray to Mars, born of Earth, who shines

with the same brilliance as lightning, the
young man who carries a spear .
��य�ुक�लका�ामं �पेणा��तमं बुध� ।
सौ�ं सौ�गुणोपेतं तं बुधं �णमा�ह� ॥ ४॥

I pray to Mercury, dark like the bud of millet,

of unequalled beauty, gentle and agreeable .
देवान� च ऋषीण� च गु�ं का�नसं�नभ� ।
बु��भूतं ��लोकेशं तं नमा�म बृह��त� ॥ ५॥

I pray to Jupiter, the teacher of gods and

rishis, intellect incarnate, lord of the
three worlds .
�हमकु�मृणालाभं दै�ान� परमं गु�� ।
सव�शा��व�ारं भाग�वं �णमा�ह� ॥ ६॥

I pray to Venus, the utimate preceptor of

demons, promulgator of all learning, he who
shines like the fiber of snow-white jasmine .
नील�जनसमाभासं र�वपु�ं यमा�ज� ।
छायामात��संभूतं तं नमा�म शनै�र� ॥ ७॥

I pray to Saturn, the slow moving, born of

Shade and Sun, the elder brother of Yama,

the offspring of Sun, he who has the
appearance of black collyrium .
अध�कायं महावीय� च�ा�द��वमद�न� ।
�सं�हकागभ�संभूतं तं रा�ं �णमा�ह� ॥ ८॥

I pray to Rahu, having half a body, of great

bravery, the eclipser of the Moon and the Sun,
born of SimhikA .
पलाशपु�संकाशं तारका�हम�क� ।
रौ�ं रौ�ा�कं घोरं तं केतुं �णमा�ह� ॥ ९॥

I pray to Ketu, who has the appearance of

PalAsha flower, the head of stars and planets,
fierce and terrifying .
इ�त �ासमुखो�ीतं यः पठे�सु मा�हतः ।
�दवा वा य�द वा रा�ौ �व�शा��भ��व��त ॥ १०॥

Those who read the song sung by VyAsa,

will be joyous, sovereign and powerful,
and will succeed in appeasing obstacles,
occurring by day or by night .
नरनार�नृपाण� च भवे�ःु ��नाशन� ।
ऐ�य�मतुलं तेषामारो�ं पु��वध�न� ॥

Bad dreams of men, women and kings alike

will be destroyed and they will be endowed
with unparalleled riches, good health and
enhancing nourishment .
�हन��जाः पीडा��रा��समु�वाः ।
ताः सव�ः �शमं या�� �ासो �ूते न संशयः ॥

All the pain, devastation caused by

fire, planets and stars will be of
the past, so spoke VyAsa, emphatically .
॥ इ�त �ी�ास�वर�चतं नव�ह�ो�ं स�ूण�� ॥

Thus ends the song of praise of the

nine planets composed by VyAsa .
