Name: Zarzuela, Aira Shanne P.

Section: BSIE – 4101

Activity No. 1

1. List and briefly describe at least five things within your classroom, school or
other educational setting that interest you and that you might want to pursue
further. These might be problems you have become aware of, aspects of your
school practice you might improve, or issues that concern you.

a. Self-care Practices and Online Student Engagement During Covid-19

b. Concepts and Measurement of Dropout in Higher Education

c. Determinants of future preference for e-learning and its implications

d. Adaptations by Tertiary Students to Covid-19 Restrictions Imposed on

Education Participation

e. The Elusiveness of a Sense of Place-belonging

2. Based on what you learned in this section about educational research, for each of
the problems or issues you generated above, judge the extent to which you believe
that each might be appropriate for an educational research study.

a. The rise of digital learning and the Covid-19 pandemic have raised the risk of
mental health issues among students. Although self-care practices help
protect students from mental health problems, these changes may also cause
them to lose their balance. The aim of this study is to determine if the
relationship between self- care practices and student engagement is strong
during the pandemic. This method aims to examine the barriers to practicing
self- care among undergraduate students.
b. The purpose of this study is to identify the main explanatory factors of
dropout in higher education, as well as to demonstrate the limitations and
methodological implications related to the polysemic nature of the concept of
dropout that should be addressed by studies on the subject.

c. Many universities shifted from traditional to e-learning in response to the

devastating effects of the Covid-19 pandemic. This study aims to identify the
factors that will influence future e-learning preference levels.

d. The pandemic has affected various aspects of society, including the way people live
their lives. It also caused social isolation and altered the way education is carried out.
This study aims to identify the various coping strategies used by tertiary students
during the pandemic.

e. Students bring their own unique stories to higher education, shaped by

history, culture, and language. Developing a sense of belonging on a diverse
university campus is strongly intertwined to the intersectionality of race,
ethnicity, gender, and language. This study utilizes narrative inquiry to
investigate one student's four-year struggle to find a sense of belonging on a
diverse university campus.

3. Based on your new knowledge, briefly discuss how you believe that educational
research can prove to be beneficial. What concerns do you have about its potential
shortcomings?

f. Not only in the field of education, but also in other fields, research is an
essential component. It purifies the workings of the individual as well as their
lives. It primarily focuses upon improving quality and is a search for
knowledge. It demonstrates how to provide scientific and methodical
solutions to problems. It is a methodical effort to gain new knowledge in all
disciplines. The primary goal of this research paper is to understand the
significance of research in education. Educational research is defined as
providing solutions to any educational problem. We've all encountered term
limitations in research at some point during the course of writing an
academic paper. We usually interpret it negatively. However, when it comes
to your studies, restraints can actually be beneficial. We have written an
article about research limitations that explains not only what they are, but
also how to use them in your study. The limitations are determined by the
type of research design used. Of course, this isn't the real reason. Every study
should have limitations. The truth is that every study has flaws and
disadvantages, but this does not make writing your case study any less
difficult. Example of potential shortcomings are:
• Sample Size - Let's say 100 people should participate in your survey.
Each one may give you individual results, but that does not mean that
the same results belong to the entire population.
• Access to data - You won't always be able to go through all of the
resources. You cannot collect all the data you need for your research as
it will take a lot of time. Because of this, your work may not cover
every aspect.
• Lack of time - Often, deadlines are the reason your research and
research may not be completed. When we get a job, we have only a
limited amount of time to do it. To get good grades, you need to
submit your assignment before the deadline.
• Data collection - There are several ways to collect data. Interviews,
surveys, surveys, etc. The method of collecting data may be a real
limitation because the answers and results are different.
• Method - When you discover new information, you will use specific
research methods and research methods. Different methods give you
different opportunities. The quality of the data you get usually
depends on the method you choose.
