The RMS value of the output voltage greater than 3 V across a 75 0 load, being measur- ed by a built-in voltmeter with ranges to 3 V and 9 V. The output voltage can be continuously attenuated by means of an uncalibrated divider by more than 40 dB. The intrinsic impedance of the generator Is undefined, To facilitate the frequency setting, the control element is arranged so as to enable rough and fine tuning. The frequency band of the generator 1s, divided into seven ranges. The selection of the desired range 1s combined with limiting the visibi- lity of the dial to selected range. All supply volt- ages are stabilized, so that mains voltage vari- ations by —10 % do not affec: the output voltage and frequency. ‘The internal amplitude modviation can be discon: nected. 2. Instructions for Setting in Operation Connection of the instrument to mains: Before connecting the instrument to mains, It 1s essential to check whether the mains voltage selec- tor is im a position corresponding to the actual nuains voltage and whether a cartridge of the re. quired value is in the fuse mount. ‘The instrument can be supplied from either 220 V cr 120 V mains, The triangle-shaped index over the mains voltage selector points to 220 V. if a change to 120 V supply Is necessary, loosen the central screw, withdraw the tap-changing disk, turn it to make the Index point to 120 V, reinsert the disk and tighten the central tock screw. When reconnecting the instrument to a different supply voltage, It is also necessary to replace the fuse cartridge in the ‘mount installed on the rear wall over the mains voltage selector. The cartridge values for either mains voltage are Indicated in the “Specifications™. The instrument is energized by closing the switch V. The energized state of the instrument is indic- ated by the pilot lamp 2 (6 V, 0.05 A}. The instru- ment 1s ready for measuring after about 2 minutes of heating. It Is recommended, howaver, to keep the instrument in operation for about half-an-hour before proceeding with the measurement to allow all its parts to sufficiently stabilize. Mains voltage deviations by 10% do not affect the functions of the instruments and its properties remain with- in the margins as tndicated in the “Specifications' Since the supply of ai the electron tubes is not stabilized, a long-term use of the instrument at a permanently lower or higher mains valtage cannot be recommended. In such a case the reguired mains voltage is to be obtained via a regulating transformer Zero Adjnstment of Voltmeter ‘The mechanical zero adjustment of the voltmeter 4s performed with the instrument disconnected from mains. When the instrument is on, the knob K3 must be turned to the minimum output voltage value. The mechanical zero adjustment is effected by means of the set screw below the voltmeter dial. The output voltage is brought out through a 75 2 connector. if the output voltage 1s applied direct to the object submitted to measurement and if reflections in the cable are to be eliminated, an interconnecting cable with an impedance of 75 2 Is to be used, one of its end being matched to the 75 © connector mouted on the generator panel, The internal resistance Is not defined. The output, voltage value, depending on load magnitude of the object subjected to measurement, 18 indicated by the built-in voltmeter. ‘The RMS value of the output voltage under @ 759 load is at least 3 V In all ranges. If in a given case an exact (defined) output re- sistance is called for, it ts recommended to add a 75 @ attenuating member with an attenuation of about 10 4B, Na v¥stup generdtoru je nutno pripojovat pouze pasival 24120, PH pPipojeni mafeného objektu Je hutno dbst aa to, aby nebyl zdrojem napeti. Only passive loads can be connected to the output of the generator. Consequently, when connecting, an object to be measured, this object must be certain not to become a potential source. A volt- age as low as 50 mV already influences the au¢put voltmeter and a voltage exceeding 10 V RMS thre atens the detection diode, Frequency Setting ‘The turret knob K1 is used to select the desired range, while the knob K2 enables to set the desir- ed frequency, Dual index line on the pointer permits to read off the frequency withoue parallax if, when tuning the freguancy, the two pointer index lines merge Into one and if they coincide with the frequency called for. The frequency ranges mutually overlap, so that frequencies near the ends of the scale can be avoided. By pulling the knob K2 the frequency can be set finely Output Voltage Setting The detection diode is installed at the output con: nector, sO that any variations in the output load- ing or in frequency can be directly read on the voltmeter. The output voltage can te set by means of the divider K3. The output vo:rage attenuation, is greater than 40 dB in all ranges. If the output connector is provided with a 752 divider, the volt meter indicates the output voltage of the divider. A change in the output voltaze aiso appears when changing the mode switch to "Modulated", the pointer deflection of the meter being reduced to ‘one half {see the paragraph: 92 Modulation). Modulation A change of the mode-swit K4 to the po- sition "Modulated" causes 1% . modulation of the output voltage by 1 kHz rectangular waves. The voltmeter on the panei now shows half the value of the previously preset deflection, ‘The reason for this reduction :s in that the mag- nitude of the HF amplitude. and thereby also the output voltage, remains unchanged upon introduc- tion of the modulating frequency. but since the HE oscillator Is blocked by the rectangular waves for a half of the cycle, the resulting voltage tndic ated by the voltmeter Is reduced to approx. one hall. Heater Voltage Check A perfect operation of the oscillator calls for ac- curacy in the heater voltage. If the heater voltage is to be checked, the knob Ki is to be switched to the position “U:". The pointer of the meter must now coincide with the midpoint of the index (bet- ween 6.2 and 64 Vj, If this 1s not the case, the heater voltage being supplied is to be checked. If it Is exactly 6.3 V —0.1 V, then the voltmeter pointer is adjusted to the midpoint of the index by means of the resistor R33. If the heater voltage Aiffers from 6.3 V £0.1 V, It is adjusted to this, value by means of the resistor R6. 5. PRINCIP CINNOSTI PRISTROJE Blokové schéma 8. The frequency variation in each range is 1:1.6, which ensures good frequen- cy scale readability, the reading accuracy being about 0.05%, The LC oscillating circuit is con- nected between the grid and the anode. C14 is a variable capacitor with dual stator. The insertion and withdrawal of the rotor from both stators changes the capacity and thereby also the resonan- ce frequency of the circuit, The advantage of this capacitor design is in the absence of the rotor wiper contact resistance. The anode of the oscil. lator is supplied via the resistors R23 to R29 from the taps of the colls Lt to L7 mounted on a rotary turret. To reduce the HF radiation, the turret is enclosed In a double screening cover and HF filters are provided in the supply circuit. Output Voltage Measuring Inductive coupling is used to take off the oscillator output voltage. The output voltage is controlled by changing the distance of the coupling coll from the anode coils on the turret, whereby this method of coupling also takes up the function of a divider. This divider is connected direct to the output and the detection diode, ‘The ranges of the meter are 0 to 9 V and 0 to3V for more accurate readings of lower voltages. Since the output resistance of the generator Is not defined, the amplitude of the output voltage depends on loading. With a 75 @ load, the RMS output voltage value in all frequency ranges Is greater than 3 V and the voltmeter reading corresponds to the output voltage. The voltage divider attenuates the output voltage by more than 40 dB. Apart from HF volt- age measurements, the meter also indicates the heater voltage for he oscillator. ‘The check point for this purpose is a black index between the 6.2 and 64 V division lines in the 9 V range. At lower frequencies it poses no special requirements upon the method of modulation and permits simple sine-wave modulation, The parasitic, frequency moduiation is negligible, at high fre- quencies the parasitic FM accompanying the am: plitude modulation is already disturbing. This undesirable effect 1s eliminated in this generator by using rectangular-wave modulation, which im- plies that the oscillator either oscillates and yields the preset autput voltage or sets out, This is regul arly repeated with a Trequency of 1600 Hz, the result being a practically sdeai 100% rectangular -wave modulation. The modulation section con- sists of the electron tubes £20. £14 and E21. The two systems of the oscillating tube 820 operate as an astable multivibrator yielding rectangular waves, with an open-to-clase ratio of about 1:1. The rectangular voltage is applied through the capaci tor C7 to the grid of the left-hand system of the twin triode Eid. The cathode of this system has the same voltage as the modulating oscillator ana the system operates as a normal amplifier of these rectangles. The amplified signal is galvanically coupled with the anode of the first system of the tube E14 and js also applied throuza the resistor R9 to the grid of E13. The tubes E13 and E21 now form a series configuration flowed through by the anode current of £21. The rectangular waves ap- plied to the grid can control the current through E13 and interrupt and restore the anode voltage of the oscillator in the rhythm of the modulating, frequency. Besides, the tube E13 serves as a rogul- ating stabilizer of the oscillator anode valtage. Supplies ‘A measuring generator is called upon not only to have a constant ourput voltage, but also to pro- vide a constant frequency. The difficulties in at taining the stability quency increase with rising frequency. The share of the mechanical parts on the frequency instabt lity can be evtmunated by a precise and sturdy con: struction of the oscillator, while the Instabilities due to electrical effects can be ruled out by careful stabilisation of the supply voltages. The required voltages are supplied by the mains transformer. The mains voitaze ts directed through the mains switch, fuse Pl and mains voltage selector to the Peuacy winding of the transformer provided with ‘a 120 V tap. The lamp 21 indicates the on-condl- tion of the instrument. The voltage of the socond- acy winding 7-8 is used to fond the anode of E21 ‘The AC voltage is rectified by diodes E9 to E12 in bridge connection and the filter capacitor C4 yielding a DC voltage of about 360 V. This voltage Is supplied to the tube stabilizer E13, E14 and to the Zener diode stabilizer B49, £23 to obtain a potential of +170 V, The network opezates as follows: A voltage rise at the anode of the regulating tube E13 calls forth a change in its cathode voltaze. of Output voltage and fre- ° f napéti je vedena doli¢em R12 @ R13 na mPi2ku pra vého triodoveho systému elektronky E14 a mé za ndsledek stoupnuti jejiho anodového proudu. Mirnjm tlakem ji navieteme na elektronku a hadici s elektronkou vytéhneme z ob: This voltage change is applied through the divider R12, R13 lo the grid of the right-hand triode system of the tube E14 and causes the anode cur- rent af this system to rise. The voltage drop across the ballast resistor R8 of this tube causes the Dias voltage of the contral grid of E13 to shift in the negative sence. The internal resistance of this tube is thereby Increased, which results in an in creased voltage drop due to the anode current, ‘The resulting negative change in the cathode volt- age of E13 acts against the original positive volt- age change. A negative voltage deviation will be compensated in the same way by a positive volt age change. The regulation 1s independent, irrespective of whether the voltage deviation occurs at the input {mains voltage variation) or at the output (load variation). Another advantage of this arrangement Is in the hum compensation keeping the parasitic, modulation by mains at a minimum, ‘The other DC supply voltage of —150 V is taken off the winding 1-2 and is rectified by the diodes E15 to E18. It 1s negative with respect to the body of the Instrument and is intended for the mul vibrator E20, being stabilized by Zener diodes E19 and £23. Since the divider R12, R13 for the grid of E14 is coupled to —150 V and the cathode of the driving tube E14 is earthed, this voltage serves as reference for the stabilisation of the oscillator anode voltage. The third stabilized voltage is provided for DC heating of the HF oscillator E21. It Is obtained from the winding 3-4 and is rectified by the diodes E1 to E4. The value of this voltage is —83V, The heater voltage is stabilized by the transistors EB, E7 and E8. In principle, the function of this stabilizer is the same as in the case of the +170 V voltage where the tubes E13 and El4 are used for stabilisation, The reference voltage Is provided by the Zener diode ES. Optimum stabilization can be attained by means of two adjusting resistance elements: input voltage of stabilizer by means of the poten- tiometer R5, output voltage by means of the potentiometer R4. The resistor R6 1s used to adjust the heater volt- age for the oscillator. €. MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS ‘The greatest care was devoted to the assembly of the (nstrument in the manufacturer's workshops. All bearings were carefully lubricated and protect- ed against the ingress of dust, so that they do not require any maintenance. in the case of any me- chanical fault it is advisable to send the instru- ‘ment to @ repair shop. 7.
