LLI 289: Advance Creative and Technical Writing

QUIZ #1

Direction: Answer the following questions.

1. Why should you encourage your students to engage in creative writing? How will you
motivate them to write?
Writing is self-expression. Encouraging and engaging students in creative writing
has a lot of benefits, first is it can develop their emotional skills. By writing,
students can be more in tuned with their emotions. Self- discovery and self-
expressions can be seen throughout the child’s words and storytelling abilities.
Creative writing can also help develop a student’s intellectual skills. Besides
stimulating their imagination, their sentence constructions and vocabulary will be
more advanced. Also, engaging students in Creative Writing can help a child
communicate effectively and foster artistic expressions.

2. What are the initial activities that you should do to introduce creative writing to your
students?
I believe that reading and writing are intertwined. To introduce creative writing to
students, we should expose them to different pieces of literature through reading.
We can show them examples of good, interesting writing so we can key in on
students’ interests. Students should be given a good foundation of what we are
asking of them. It is also important that the reasons for writing be made clear to the
students.

One activity is the writing prompts. Students are given prompts so they have a
guide of what they will be writing about. Another is free writing. Give them a word
to write about and let them show their ideas through writing anything that comes
to their mind.
