Supporting learners using ICTs

ICTs were used in a variety of ways to support student learning across the key learning areas of
Science, English and Mathematics. As a teaching tool, interactive and multimodal resources supported
visual learners, promoting increased engagement within the class. The following table outlines
examples of where ICTs were used for teaching and learning to engage students in Mathematics and
Science.

“The integration of ICT across the curriculum provides opportunities for all students to develop their
skills to become competent, discriminating, productive, creative and ethical users of ICT” (NESA,
2021). In English ICTs facilitated both teaching and learning with PowerPoint resources used to
explicitly teach letters and sounds. Students were also given the opportunity to use ICTs to create and
publish multimodal texts as part of their summative assessment for information reports.

Prior to students creating their

multimodal text, I taught a lesson on
creating and publishing multimodal texts.
In the lesson, I modelled how to create a
PowerPoint slide, including how images
and text are inserted.
