Republic of the PI Bulacan State University City of Malolos, Bulacan Tel/Fax (044) 791-0153, COURSE SYLLABUS LEGAL ASPECTS IN TOURISM AND HOSPITALITY First Semester A.Y. 2020-2021 COLLEGE HOSPITALITY AND TOURISM MANAGEMENT DEPARTMENT __: HOSPITALITY AND TOURISM MANAGEMENT COURSE CODE: LAH 403 COURSE TITLE : LEGAL ASPECTS IN TOURISM AND HOSPITALITY CREDITUNITS =: 3 PREREQUISITE FACULTY k CONSULTATION HOURS : Specified in the Individual Faculty Loading COURSE DESCRIPTION: The course will cover legal and regulatory structures in the tourism and hospitality industry that operates domestically and internationally. The course will focus on the key principles of laws that govern the hospitality, tourism and related industries. Factors that will examine and discuss the various legislations on business organizations and some international law issues such as product and service liability, employment law, laws governing the natural environment and consumer protection will also be discussed, ‘Comprehensive awareness and understanding the national and international regulations of the travel and hospitality industry; consumer contract law; the law of carriers and accommodations; the duties and responsibilities of tour and travel agencies and ‘operators, travel insurance law;the law of bailment; hotel and restaurant management law; gaming and marketing law; consumer rights and complaints; criminal and civil liability of people working in the travel and tourism industry will also be covered. Lastly, regulations on the issuance of visa, travel documentation as well as issues involving health and safety concerns will be tackled. LOS, Examine the typical organizational structure of a Crisis Management Committee/Team (CMCICMT) and outline the functions of each designation within the structure, as well as identify the corresponding qualifications for each position. Students are expected to be active participants in the subject, even though you may not see your classmates or instructors, there are forms of discussion, collaboration and communication. Students should be willing and ready to communicate with classmates and instructors online. Students should participate regularly in weekly activities. Everyone is encouraged to check their official email account regularly to view announcements, assignments, and complete assessments. Students are ‘expected to complete all assignments, quizzes and other activities at the given due date. Do not hesitate to ask questions. Students are strongly encouraged to contact their instructors if you have questions related to the subject. It is recommended that you contact your instructors in advance of the due date. If possible, find a study environment which is free of distraction to better understand the discussion. For modular class: 1. Students will use the self-learning modules in print or digital format/electronic copy, whichever is applicable. The instructor takes the responsibility of monitoring the progress of the students. The student may seek assistance from the instructor through email, text message, messenger, etc. Where possible, the teacher will visit the students who are needing assistance, especially in remote areas, through the mobile caravan, For face-to-face class: 1 All students must attend classes promptly and regularly. Only students enrolled in the course are allowed to attend the sessions, sit-ins may be allowed depending on the instructor's approval. A student shall be marked tardy 15 minutes after the set time and absent after 20 minutes of the scheduled time. Unless the instructor has prior notice of his/her absence or tardiness. Lastly, unless the subject instructor concerned gave prior notice, the students may leave their assigned room 15 minutes after the start of the scheduled time. (see F. Attendance, BulSU Student Handbook) Students must be in the prescribed uniform for the day. ( Monday, Tuesday and Thursday in university uniform, W- washday sleeveless, shorts, rip jeans are not allowed, and F- organization shirt day only SOFHE, CHARMS, BEST and TOURISM Org. Shirt is allowed). Furthermore, male students must sport a haircut that does not exceed the collar line and does not cover the ears. Wearing of earrings for the male is prohibited and for female students excessive jewelleries’ and make-up as well. (see Responsibility, BulSU Student Handbook) Page 9 of 10, 3. During written examinations, class presentations, laboratory activities and term examinations the students must be in the prescribed uniform or the instructor may refuse to give the student the written or practical activities. Students must refrain from talking to their seatmates, answering phone calls and text messages and listening to music through their earphones while taking the written exam or laboratory activities. No students can use the restroom/lavatory unless necessary during the examination. 4, During classroom discussions, the student must refrain from making too much noise, playing with their cell phones, wearing headphones/earphones, answering a text message and taking phone calls. 5. Students are not allowed to stay earlier than 15 minutes and later than 15 minutes before and after their class schedule, 6.
