Classroom Routines/Behavioral Expectations

Morning Routine / Greet the teacher and hang up your coat & backpack in your cubby.. Move your clip
Attendance with your name to the commitment you choose to focus on for the day (Safe hands,
walking feet…). Then, walk to the sink and wash hands. Have a seat at the tables for
breakfast. You can greet your friends as they sit down using a #2 Whisper voice.

Cubbies/ Personal Students will be expected to place their backpacks and coats in their cubbies. Any
Property work or items that need to go home will be placed in the bins above or below their
cubbies.

Morning Meeting When dismissed from breakfast, head to the circle rug and sit down in your assigned
spot. Review the visual schedule. We will greet each other with our good morning
song, followed by a check of who is here today and Wishing Well for whomever is
absent. We will read the letter we wrote the previous day to our absent friends about
what we did. Next we will have discussion/problem solving for our focus question for
the week. We will then review the weather and read a book or do music and
movement.

Visual Schedule Throughout the day we will review the visual schedule. The schedule keeper will flip
the cards over as we complete each task.

Jobs Jobs are posted on the job list with a picture description. Each student will either be
responsible for one job each day or will be placed “on vacation”. If you are on vacation,
your only job will be to follow and help others follow the Be Rules. Each morning we
will rotate jobs on the job wheel and assign new jobs for the day. Take a look at the
jobs chart as you come to the rug for circle time. If you feel that you will struggle with
doing a job for the day, you can ask for a coworker to help with the job and a friend
will be removed from Vacation to help you.

Transitions When we transition from one activity to another, I will announce it ahead of time. I will
give one warning 5 minutes beforehand, saying, “Five till transition”. I will give a second
warning 2 minutes beforehand, saying, “Two till transition”. When I say, “Transition
time!”, all students will pause as the schedule keeper updates our visual schedule.
Clean up any activities that you are working on and follow the procedure to go to the
next activity. (When we have time, we might do a Mighty Minute or a fun activity (like
a GoNoodle dance break) in between subjects - the teachers and the teacher helpers
will lead this.

Attention Signal When I need to grab your attention during an activity for an announcement of some
kind, I will play a chime, and say “Hocus Pocus”. I want you to immediately stop what
you are doing, look at me (the teacher) and say “Everybody Focus”. I will wait until it is
quiet and I have all eyes on me before proceeding with the announcement or the new
instructions.

Calmdown Corner Whenever you are feeling really upset, overwhelmed, or stressed you may quietly
head over to this area for 5-10 minutes to cool down. There should only be one
student at a time over there. A teacher will come over to help you remember what to
do using our “When I am Mad” social story and the visuals on the wall. When you are
done, you need to rejoin class and catch up on what you missed quietly. If you use the
corner during circle time or clean up time, you will need to rejoin the activity as a
worker before you can transition to the next activity. This means finish cleaning your
area or come and sit with a calm body at circle.

Signing for needs When you need something, like the calm down corner, or the bathroom, or to get a
drink, you will raise your hand and sign a letter to me (which I will teach you). C for
the calm down corner, B for the bathroom, and W for water. When I nod yes, you
may go.

Lining Up/ Walking When given the cue by the teacher, you will stand up and walk to cubbies to get your
outside jacket. Stand on a cloud picture on the floor with hands by your side. When all
students are on a cloud the teacher will lay out the line up rope. Pick up the ring
directly by your feet. Keep eyes facing forward and body calm. When the teacher says
“Green Light” All students will walk. Once we are outside, the teacher will say “Red
Light” and give any instructions before release. Once the teacher says the magic word
(Pickle Juice) students may drop the rope and are dismissed to play.

Bathroom Breaks If you have to go to the bathroom, then you will raise your hand and signal with a B.
When the teacher nods, you may stand up and walk to the bathroom.
Following the morning meeting, all students will have a chance to use the bathroom
before we go outside. If you need to go while we are outside, you will have to wait for
a support staff person to come get you so you are highly encouraged to try during
bathroom time.
After you use the bathroom check the toilet seat for any spray and wipe it clean with
TP. Flush and follow the hand washing procedure.

Mealtime During meal times you will wash your hands and sit down at the tables with your hands
in your lap. The teachers will lead a song or rhyme while everyone finds their assigned
seat. Once everyone is seated the class will sing the thank you song while the teachers
pass out plates. Once everyone has their food you may begin eating. The teacher will
set the visual timer so you know how long you have to eat. During meal time you can
talk with your table mates at a volume #2. If you would like more food you can raise a
quiet hand and get the teacher’s attention. Use respectful language like please and (no)
thank you. Keep all food on your plate.
When the timer goes off, the meal time helpers will pass out the buckets. Scrape your
plate into the buckets and pick up any trash or loose food that is still on the table.
Raise a quiet hand and ask to be excused from the table. When the teacher excuses
you, go wash hands at the sink and walk to circle time.

Carpet Time Students will choose a leaf and sit quietly for morning meeting, read a
louds, or any other occasions. We will sing the listening rules at the
beginning of circle time to remember how to behave. Students will listen
and participate in morning meetings and respond to questions during the
read aloud.

Hand Washing Students will follow the provided picture poster for how to wash hands.
Students will take the appropriate amount of paper to dry their hands.
(2 turns of the knob, or pushes is the appropriate amount.)

Free Each student will post their picture card on the station they choose to use. If there is
Choice/stations not a spot available for that station, the student needs to pick a different station until
that station is available. Follow the fair ways to play posters while playing with peers.
When you are ready to move to a different center, clean up the space and grab your
name tag.

Noise levels There is a 1 to 5 noise level chart posted in several places in the classroom. At a level
1 all voices need to be silent. 5 is yelling and should only be used outside. The teacher
will direct students about which noise level is appropriate for each activity.

End of day After PM snack student will go to their cubbies and put all items in their bin inside their
meeting/Pack up backpacks. Take all items with you to circle time rug. We will write a letter to absent
friends and review what we learned for the day. Then we will either do a song, journals
or story time while we wait for pick up.

Dismissal The teacher will stand by the door while the assistant teachers lead activities at the
carpet. Students will stay at the carpet until the teacher calls them to the door. The
teacher will open the door and release the student to their parents. Students do not
leave the classroom until the teacher releases them.
