REFLECTION Ep 8

An effective curriculum provides teachers, students, administrators and community

stakeholders with a measurable plan and structure for delivering a quality education. The
curriculum identifies the learning outcomes, standards and core competencies that students
must demonstrate before advancing to the next level. Teachers play a key role in developing,
implementing, assessing and modifying the curriculum. An evidenced-based curriculum acts
as a road map for teachers and students to follow on the path to academic success.

A school’s curriculum informs teachers what skills must be taught at each grade level to
ultimately prepare students for postsecondary education or a job. Understanding the big picture
helps teachers align the learning objectives of their own curriculum with the school’s curriculum.
In the absence of a curriculum, teachers wouldn’t know whether students are building a solid
foundation to support learning at the next level.

A curriculum outlines for students a sequence of courses and tasks that must be
successfully completed to master a subject and earn a diploma or degree. Students may be
more motivated to study if they understand why certain subjects are taught in the curriculum. A
curriculum reassures students that they’re on the right track to reaching their goals and honing
desired skills.

In addition to teaching students academic skills, the curriculum is also intended to teach
students the importance of responsibility, hard work and responsible citizenship. Teachers in
partnership with parents and community members collaborate on the development of a
curriculum that will instill character in students and reinforce positive behavior.
Major Curriculum Components

A. Planning
A. What are the lesson objectives/learning outcomes?
- The lesson objectives are :
1. Define the different types of Imagery
2. Identify the types of imagery used in the text; and
3. Express the importance of imagery
B. What are the included in the subject matter?
- It includes the meaning of Imagery, examples and also the activities.
C. What procedure or method will the teacher use to implement the
plan?
- The procedure is she used 4A’s and follow the steps to implement a
plan.
D. Will the teacher assess or evaluate the lesson? How will this be
done?
- Yes, because she has an activity that will ensure that the learners and
the teacher will follow or obtain the objectives.
B. Implementing
A. The teacher begins the lesson with a Prayer.
B. The procedure are Prayer, greetings, checking of attendance, setting
classroom standards, passing of assignments, review the lesson,
motivation, presentation of objectives, group activity, discussing the
lesson, analysis, evaluation and application.
C. She engage it by starting it in interesting motivation that she used a true
to life sample.
D. Yes
E. Yes
F. Yes
C. Evaluating/Assessing
A. Yes
B. She assesses it in a way of giving those activities that could fit in the
objectives.
C. Yes, the evidence is when she asked the students they answer it properly.
Active: The resource teacher in the class that I had observed let her students to operate and set up the
projector and the laptop before they start and during her discussion of the lesson.

Collaborative: The resource teacher of the class that I had observed grouped her students into five
member each to present specific topics using the technology she prepared, the laptop and projector.
Constructive: The technology; laptop and projector served as the main teaching aids of the
resource teacher that I had observed, therefore it serves as the source of information in which the
students construct their understanding.
Authentic: The resource teacher that I had observed asked the students to create their own “Academic
Format” using laptopin Microsoft Office Word.
Goal Directed: the resource teacher thatwe had observed asked her students to prepare a power point
presentation for the next students to report in front of the class.

Overall, I must say that the resource teacher executes the learning resources well and effectively for the
students tend to collaborate and cooperate in her discussion and they tend to focus their attention on the
projected power point presentation projected on the board. My only suggestion is that next time, it is more
advisable to use animation on the text that needs to get emphasized and also, use more images if
possible.

If I will be put in the place of the resource teacher and will teach the same topic to the same group of
students I will still be using the same technology she used, which are laptop and projector, for the
students seems to focus more on what I am going to say if there is a projected presentation of the
topic that I will discuss. Maybe the only different thing that I will do compared to the resource
teacher is that I will use “Problem-Soling Method” for I want my students to discover for themselves how
to do or write an academic format letter, and also, I will use “Differentiated Instruction Method” for the
students’ to focus on one part of the letter format then the group leader will explain their part in front of
the class. And for the evaluation, I will ask my students to write an academic format letter to the principal
of our school on their propose program/projects for the improvement of our own alma matter
