Question 1:

Prove that the following expressions are correct solutions for the one-dimensional wave
equation:

a) u ( x , t )= A e iωt sinkx+ B eiωt coskx

b) u ( x , t )=( C eikx + D e−ikx ) e iωt

Question 2:

Use D’Alembert's method of integration to obtain the solution for the one-dimensional wave
equation.

Question 3:

If u ( x , 0 ) =U 0 ( x ) ∧u̇ ( x , 0 )=0are the initial conditions, find the traveling-wave solution for the
one-dimensional wave equation.

Question 4:

Show that solutions to the one-dimensional wave equation can assume harmonic, complex
exponential, hyperbolic and exponential forms.
