Hard work is more important than Talent

In today's era, anyone who has accomplished anything of note, is quickly applied the
label ''talented'' and ''gifted'' by our achievement-obsessed society. Successful people
are often portrayed as super humans, born with magical abilities. For instance, award
winning actors are touted as talented, as are people who have succeded in business.
Everyone isn't interested in hard work these so called gifted and talented people have to
put in before they see results. We don't stop and appreciate the effort that goes into a
best selling novel, a high-performing company or a stunning piece of artwork.

We tend to just assume that "talent" naturally gives rise to excellent results. But just
because you have talent, doesn't mean you can go on the field and be the star of the
team. In reality, there are countless stories that illustrate the triumph of hard work over
talent. The legendary basket ball player Micheal Jordan was dropped from his high
school basket ball team but would go on to become of the greatest sports person of all
times.Likewise, animation pioneer Walt Disney was told that he had 'no original idea'
and 'lacked imagination' by a newspaper that fired him.

Also, if one is not willing to put in the work to harvest and cultivate their talent, then the
talent itself is essentially useless. A tiny seed has all the potential to grow into a big tree
but only if somebody's hard work nurtures it to become so. Gordon Winckley has aptly
said "Without Hard work nothing grows but weeds". Anybody can have idea, vision or
dream but it takes that 99% working hard to make it close to become a reality. Similarly,
a true genius mind definitely needs motivation to break the shackles of distraction. Here
is where, the hard work comes into play. So, hard work and perseverence will beat out
pure talent any day.

Hardwork enables you to learn and gain knowledge about something from scratch. It is
the first pre-requisite to be successful whatever your sphere of action may be. If one has
the virtue of being industrious, one can develop any talent and this talent can be
converted into skills using the magic lamp of hardwork. So, talent gives you a head start
but hard work makes you finish the race. Always remember, hardwork beats talent,
when talent fails to work hard.
