PERFORMANCE TASK:

Task’s Overview: For Individual Citizens and Resident Aliens Earning Purely Compensation
Income and Individuals Engaged in Business and Practice of Profession, the existing individual tax
structure of the Philippines based from https://santandertrade.com/en/portal/establish-
overseas/philippines/tax-system shows the table

Direction: Students are tasked to define a piecewise function that models the tax structure in the
Philippines and will create a table showing six (6) income values of their choice.
Individual tax structure of the Philippines can be represented in function as:

𝒙 𝒇(𝒙)
200, 000 0
300, 000 60, 000

Solution.
1. If 𝑥 = 200, 000

Use the first subfunction 𝑓(𝑥) = 0𝑥 since 𝑥 = 200, 000 𝑎𝑛𝑑 0 ≤ 𝑥 ≤ 250, 000

By evaluation of function:
𝑓(𝑥) = 0𝑥

𝑓(200,000) = 0(200, 000)

𝑓(200,000) = 0

Hence, an individual who has an annual salary of Php 200, 000

pays Php 0 annually for tax.

2. If 𝑥 = 300, 000
Use the second subfunction 𝑓(𝑥) = 0.20𝑥 since
𝑥 = 300, 000 𝑎𝑛𝑑 250, 000 < 𝑥 ≤ 400, 000

By evaluation of function:
𝑓(𝑥) = 0.20𝑥

𝑓(300,000) = 0.20(300, 000)

𝑓(300,000) = 60, 000

Hence, an individual who has an annual salary of Php 300, 000

pays Php 60, 000 annually for tax.

3. If 𝑥 =
REMINDERS:

• Show the table and piecewise function that represents the tax structure of the
Philippines.
• Choose six (6) values of x that is different from what is used here in the template and
vary your values of x to the different subfunctions
(DO NOT USE THE X VALUES FROM THIS SAMPLE TEMPLATE)
• Show your complete solution.
