Ph~lloscopu~ Publications was founded in 1989 by Dr. Rachel Malloch
and Continues to offer an increasingly varied catalogue of chamber music,
mainly for wind instruments. In 2010 Rachel retired and appojnted Mark
and Pat Goddard at Spartan Press as the custodjans of the Phylloscopus
dynasty. Many of the works in the catalogue where initially only available
from libraries and so are now easjer to obtain and to read. Some of the
musjc iS accessible for less experjenced players, most is suitable for good
amateur performers Many different combinations of players are catered
for, with alternative instrumentations where appropriate The music dates
from the l6th to the 2lst Centuries and involves from 1 to 12 players The
full list can be found at:

Catalogue sections include music for flute(s), oboe(s), oboe d’amore and

The Word Phyllosc0p~~ cornes from the generj~ name of a group of warblers
(smafl brown songbjrds) including the native Brjtjsh wood warbler
Chiffchaff and Willow warbler The Greek word, loosely translated rneans
“looking at leaves” The bird chosen to adorn the music is Phylloscopus
proreg~~~5 (Pallas’s Leaf Warbler) Thj5 inhabitant of Siberja and Asia
can be seen in Brjtajn when driven off course during its autumn migratj0n
Such sightjngs are increasingly common due, Perhaps to changes in
cljmate and weather patterns
