“Wiring a Web for Global Good”

(REACTION PAPER)

It is a fantastic honor for us pupils to have had the opportunity to

view this documentary about our world. We must not only continue
to learn about the situation in which we find ourselves, but we must
also look at what is happening and has occurred in other countries.
What a fantastic speech, to be sure. Your goal of connecting each and
every country via communication and moral sensibility is admirable.
And I like how you underline that even the poorest people and
countries have the potential to reach their full potential if given the
chance.

2. Cite two specific examples for each of the cultural barriers across races.
Causes of Cultural Barriers Specific examples

Different points of view/misconceptions.

1. Language
When foreign journalists come in the Philippines and
begin interviewing in the provinces, they may not
comprehend what the Filipinos are trying to say, and
the international journalists may not understand what
the Filipinos are trying to say either.

I have a hearing-impaired niece. There are moments

when I am completely perplexed by the message they
are attempting to convey. So, instead of ignoring them,
I try to communicate with them using the sign language
alphabet.
2. Signs and symbols

In other countries, Filipina is called gold diggers.

3. Stereotypes and Prejudices

People of a different race, gender, or religion may

harbor prejudices towards others.

Most Filipinos are intelligent but not well-mannered,

since they continuously exclaim "respect my
viewpoint" when reprimanded, when we may respond
"respect my opinion and teach me."
4. Behavior and Beliefs
Looking at people in front of you from the feet to the
head is regarded disrespectful in most countries, and in
others, if the employer requests, you are not authorized
to make eye contact since it is also considered rude.

Older individuals are regarded to be less competent and

weaker than youthful people.

5. Ethnocentrism

In the Philippines, other people used to think that

Muslims are terrorists..

6. Religion

When I was still in high school, my other classmates

teased my classmate because his religion is Iglesia ni
Cristo

Evaluation

1. Compare and contrast how people communicate then and now. Cite specific examples. What is your
role in promoting effective communication in the global arena?

Communication has changed dramatically throughout the years. We progressed from having practically
little technology to having everything we required. We write letters or send emails to communicate with
those who live far away from us. Our technology propagated even quicker than it does now. Computers,
telephones/cellphones, social media, and other technological gadgets are now available to us. As a
student, you may help to promote effective communication by: providing knowledge about the
importance of communication, both with and without the use of technology. Create a conversation-
friendly setting. Give an anonymous feedback route, and constantly listen to others. In this way, I am
already encouraging efficient communication while also assisting not just myself but others in improving
our communication skills.

2. Make a poster that shows how globalization affects communication. (Scoring Rubric: Accuracy of
Content – 10, Originality – 10, Relevance of the graphics – 5, Attractiveness - 5)

3. Look for an example of cultural misunderstandings that have circulated on social media. Then,
examine how the public reacted on it. Explain the people’s reaction considering the topic discussed on
this module.

 • Pinching babies' nipples is the basis for these cultural concepts about squeezing newborns'
nipples. I've seen this on social media, especially on TikTok, where some parents, particularly
black parents or American black people, squeeze their kid's nipples, stating that it would help the
infant produce hormones, but according to the study, it may cause infection under the skin. After
seeing videos of moms squeezing nipples, I find a lot of netizens who worry about the baby's
health and some who are deceived by the society. Some people say, "That's nasty." "Babies are
unable to sense pain in this area."
