1. Seth Dunnington, minister of music for Taylor Road Baptist Church, led the
call to worship with “Come Thou Fount.”
2. Director of Missions Neal Hughes welcomed everyone to the 139th Annual
Homecoming and gave a brief history of Montgomery Baptist Association.
3. Pastor Daniel Atkins (Taylor Road) greeted all the messengers, followed by a
prayer.
4. Moderator D’Linell Finley brought the meeting to order.
5. Budget and Finance Committee Chairman Eddie Newton made a motion from the committee to adopt the
2021 Proposed Budget of $428,000. He brought a motion on behalf of the Executive Board to accept the
proposed budget. The motion carried unanimously.
6. Nominating Committee Chairman Trevor Perry made a motion from the committee to accept the Nominating
Committee Report. The names of newly nominated individuals are in bold print. The motion carried
unanimously.
7. Petitionary Letters Committee Chairman Rev. James Greene made a motion to accept Montgomery Chinese
Christian Church into full membership of Montgomery Baptist Association. The motion carried Unanimously.
8. Baptist Health Vice-president/Executive Director Tommy McKinnon gave their report.
9. On March 13, Baptist Health had its first patient diagnosed with Coronavirus. Since then, Baptist Health has
treated 8,000 positive cases.
· There have been 15,283 tests performed in the last several months. Baptist Health provided its
employees with a one-time payment of 7% of all gross wages earned as a thank you.
· Forbes magazine named Baptist Health as Alabama’s top employer and is ranked number 17 out of all
employers in Alabama.
· The number of positive Coronavirus cases decreased as low as 25 patients but now has increased to
about 75.
10. McKinnon expressed his appreciation for the many prayers and support they received during this time.
11. Seth led messengers in worship with “How Great Thou Art’.”
12. DOM Neal Hughes gave his report, stating the theme of this year’s homecoming is Stay on the Wall from
Nehemiah 4:6. During a pandemic, many churches continued to build their communities and work hard together
as a body of believers. Neal recognized the administrative support staff, compassion ministry field directors,
church planting strategist, and development care staff from the association.
13. Neal gave a summary of the work with the Love Loud Lowndes County
Mobilization Center. The mobilization center has been completed and will
serve as a meeting place for Hope Inspired Ministries, (H.I.M) and a food
pantry for Lowndes County.
14. Neal recognized Ron and Becky Parnell and Jim Johnson for completing the
mobilization center.
15. Neal recognized Teddye Gandy (Pike Road) and three church planters
Dawson Zhang, Cameron Bell, and Davey Lyon.
· Pastor Zhang serves as the pastor for the first Chinese Baptist Church in
Alabama. Montgomery Chinese Church and Pike Road Baptist Church have
partnered together to serve the community of Pike Road. Teddye Gandy
expressed his thankfulness to have Dawson as a partner and brother in
Christ.
· Cameron Bell will serve as a pastor in the Cloverdale community.
Cameron has been interning with Strong Tower at Washington Park Church.
· Davey Lyon will be planting a church in the Whitehall community of Lowndes County. Benton Baptist
Church, which is a part of the Selma Baptist Association, serves as their sending church. Davey
thanked the association for their continual support.
16. Neal recognized the first class of the Sons of Nehemiah. A course on the
revitalization of churches. Neal presented all ten participants with an Eagle
Award as a thank you.
17. Chip Colee, chief administrator officer
spoke on behalf of the Alabama Baptist
Children’s Home and Family Ministries.
18. Keynote speaker Rev. Mark Clifton joined via Zoom. Clifton is the Director
of Church Replanting at the North American Mission Board, (NAMB) and
Interim Pastor at McElwain Baptist Church in Birmingham. Clifton spoke on
the importance of revitalization. His key points are as follows:
· Ninety percent of SBC churches that close are in areas where the population is growing
· Every church should examine itself to determine its condition and whether its goals should change.
· Know the difference between a church that should revitalize and a church that should replant
· Churches don’t have to die. They are not without hope. They can live again through replanting.
19. Neal concluded the meeting by thanking everyone for attending.
20. Pastor Eugene Zeigler closed the meeting in prayer.
