RECAP ON CONCRETE TECHNOLOGY

There are 5 criteria used to determine whether the concrete produced is effective. They
are the following:

● Strength
The concrete must be able to meet the strength requirements for its intended purpose.
This includes compressive and tensile strength, shear strength and impact strength.
● Economy
The concrete to be used must be cost-effective. It must be able to serve its purposes at
a reasonable price range.
● Workability
Harsh concrete can be labor intensive, especially for construction workers, or it may
require machinery. Workable concrete requires less effort to mix, and it can easily fit into the
forms.
● Durability
In general, concrete can be described as durable when it meets the strength
requirements. Apart from that, concrete must also be able to resist cracking due to
expansion and contraction caused by differences in temperature.
● Density
Density is the mass per unit volume of the material or substance. The density of
concrete also relates to its unit weight and specific gravity. These properties are all used in
effective concrete design.
