SHORT ANALYSIS OF NON-LITERARY TEXT

Coffee has become a daily part of

my life. It’s certainly a part of the

morning I most look forward to. I love

coffee because I love the way it tastes. I

enjoy going out to have coffee but love

to make it at home. Aside from helping

you feel less tired, it also increases

energy levels which I also feel, as of this

writing. I chose this because it has been

part of my daily life, and this is the brand

of coffee I use.

As you can see in the advertisement

poster, the background color is red, the

text color is white, and brown (coffee color). The colors were blended well and gave an attractive

element to the viewers. The USB cord gave justification to what it really means to the word

recharge. The details are just a few, yet the message is relayed well to the viewers.

Two words are seen in the post ’NESCAFE’ and ‘RECHARGE’ which are both in capital letters.

Its phonetics: [nes·kuh·fay] | [/ˈnɛskəfeɪ/

[rē-ˌchärj] | /riːˈtʃɑːdʒ/
Its hyphenation: [nes – ca – fe] 3 syllables
[re - charge] 2 syllables
The word 'café’, however, consists of two syllables. The 'a' in the first sounds like the 'a'

in 'cat' and 'bat', while the 'fe' rhymes with the words 'say' and 'pay'. One way of pronouncing

the word is 'KA-fay' with the stress on the first syllable. The word comes from the French 'café'

meaning coffee house. On the other hand. the stressed syllable in ‘recharge’ is on the second

syllable which is ‘charge’. You can pronounce it like the words ‘sarge’ and ‘large’.

With regards to how the words were being written, you will see that the word

‘NESCAFE’ is all capital, bold, and located on the upper-right corner. The last stroke of the

letter ‘N’ creates a horizontal line above the rest of the word. Same word was also written in the

cup but written in vertical. The letter ‘R’ in recharge is much larger than the other letters. The

capitalization and boldness of the letters characterize attention seekers. Letter ‘a’ is one of the

all-important vowels that are considered the “communication letters”. The letter ‘A’ in the word

‘NESCAFE’ and ‘RECHARGE’ is closed and indicates that the artist is discreet, meaning can

keep a secret.

Morphologically, the word ‘NESCAFE’ is noun. A trademark for: a brand of instant

coffee made by Nestlé. No base word because the name is a portmanteau of the words "Nestlé"

and "café". The word ‘RECHARGE’ on the other hand is an intransitive verb which means to

restore an electric charge to (a battery or a battery-operated device) by connecting it to a device

that draws power from another source of electricity.

Using a lexical approach, ‘NESCAFE’ has only one meaning but the word

‘RECHARGE’ can give two definitions, in Electrical (restore an electric charge to (a battery or a

battery-operated device) by connecting it to a device that draws power from another source of

electricity.) and in Geology (the replenishment of an aquifer by the absorption of water.)

Charge is its base or root word that can also give many meanings:

 Law - accuse (someone) of something, especially an offense under law.

 Electrical - store electrical energy in (a battery or battery-operated device).

 Heraldry - place a heraldic bearing on.

 Economics - a price asked for goods or services.

 Finance - a financial liability or commitment.

 Physics - the property of matter that is responsible for electrical phenomena, existing in a

positive or negative form.

 Military - a quantity of explosive to be detonated to fire a gun or similar weapon.

 Politics - a diplomatic official who temporarily takes the place of an ambassador.
