Technical Term: Positive Peace

Positive peace defined by a more lasting peace that is built on sustainable investments in
economic development and institutions as well as societal attitudes that foster peace. It can be used to
gauge the resilience of a society, or its ability to absorb shocks without falling or relapsing into
conflict. Positive Peace opposes what is known as the 'structures and cultures of violence'. These
structures and cultures can cause people to behave violently, or impose violence on others.

Major Subject: Fundamentals of Peace Education

Technical Term: Positive Peace

Positive peace includes the restoration of relationships, the development of social


institutions that satisfy the needs of the entire society, and the peaceful resolution of conflict. It must
address conflicts, such as discrimination and power inequalities. Peace does not imply the absence of
violence. It involves the absence of all types of violence as well as the peaceful resolution of
conflict.
