7 Tips for Nailing Your Next Case Study Interview
Now that you know what interview questions to ask, it’s time to make sure the interview
goes off without a hitch.
Here are 3 interviewing tips to keep in mind:
1. Find a convenient time and method for the interview. Give your customer as
much flexibility as possible, and ask for 30 minutes of their time, either on a video
call, phone call or face-to-face.
2. Send the interview questions in advance. This will help your customer prepare
and give you the best answers possible to your questions.
3. Take notes and record the interview. Get your customer’s permission to record
the interview for accuracy purposes, then use the transcript to inform your writing.
And watch out for these 4 common interview mistakes:
1. Does your list have any yes/no questions? If so, be ready with follow-up
questions. Better yet, revise the question so it’s open-ended to elicit a more
thoughtful response.
2. Don’t be afraid to ask for numbers or concrete examples. You need this
information for a quality case study—and this is your chance to get it. Try
rephrasing the question if you don’t get the answer you’re looking for the first time.
3. Don’t be afraid to let the conversation stray a little from your outline. The best
insights are often unexpected—but don’t get too far off-topic or you’ll run out of
time.
4. Don’t think you already have all the answers. Go into the case study interview
with an open mind and be ready to listen.
