1.1 INTRODUCTION:
New education policy has recommended internship program as a
compulsory component. SNDT Women’s University is the first university to introduced
internship program in the post graduate level. The university introduced internship course
in the 4th semester of post graduations and in few undergraduate courses, with the
common understanding that it will help students to enter workforce after completion of
the particular course. Some internships are selected on campus interview and also
sometimes University/Colleges gives freedom in choosing internship.

Internships are very important for higher education. As they help students
to fill the gap between their academic studies and practical workforce. Most of the time
internship is compulsory in post graduate level and also in some undergraduate courses.
The internship course is usually for short duration. During internship course students
developed various skills like communication skill, leadership, problem solving skill, etc.
through internship course, student learn all that things which any student/intern should
know before entering into workforce.

Internship is a big reason behind the career growth of the students.


Sometimes students might love the subject but while doing in practically they might not
find their interest, but internship course helps students to take proper career decision.
Also, it brings a benefit to the students, while completing a degree and after completion
of a degree. Having an internship benefits a student in the working environment and also
builds their working network. Internship gives students an experience in the beginning of
their career. Internship gives students a great platform for building their professional
network. The classroom learning does not provide practical experience to the students but
throughout the internship students gain practical experience. Internship experience
consider as valuable experience for the students.

There are paid internships as well as unpaid internships, it depends upon


organization to organization. Most of the organizations and jobs that a student applies
after the completion of a degree want a sort of professional experience from employee.
Internship help students learn about environment of workplace, employee relations, and
professionalism so that students get a job after completion of a degree with more ease.

1.2 STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM:

The problem statement of the research study is “A Study on Perception of Post Graduate
Women Students on Internship Program in SNDT Women’s University, Mumbai.”
1.3 SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY:

An internship provides the work experience that helps students to put their
academic knowledge into practice, and develop their various skills. Taking this concept
into consideration, SNDT Women’s University in Mumbai introduced the internship
course in their post-graduation course.
This study will help to know the importance of internship program in SNDT
Women’s University and to know the benefits of internship. This study is carried out to
find out the problems of women students of SNDT Women’s University while doing
internship. It is important to study the internship program in SNDT Women’s University
to know about the scope of it.

1.4 OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY:

Objective of the study are as under:

1. To understand the internship course of SNDT Women’s University in Mumbai.


2. To study women student’s perception towards the internship course in SNDT
Women’s university Mumbai.
3. To study the satisfaction level of women students towards internship course in SNDT
Women’s University.
4. To study the attitude of women students towards the internship course in SNDT
Women’s University.
5. To study the importance of internship course for women students in SNDT Women’s
university.
6. To understand how women students execute their academic knowledge into
workforce.
7. To suggest suitable measures.

1.5 HYPOTHESES OF THE STUDY:

Following are the hypothesis of the study:-


1. Internship program in SNDT Women’s University increases value to the career of
women students.
2. Internship program of SNDT Women’s University plays a vital role in developing
professional skills of women students before entering into practice.
3. Post graduate women students in SNDT Women’s University gains practical
knowledge while doing internship program.
4. Women students are satisfied with the internship program in SNDT Women’s
University in Mumbai.
1.6 RESEARCH METHODOLOGY OF THE STUDY:

The present research study is based on the post graduate women student’s perception,
their satisfaction towards the internship program in SNDT Women’s University. In the
present research study primary data as well as secondary data will be used to reach at the
final conclusion.

1.6.1 SOURCES OF DATA


A. PRIMARY DATA:
The present research study is based on the perception of post graduate women student’s
on the internship program in SNDT Women’s University, Mumbai. This study is based on
primary data i.e. the responses will be taken through structured questionnaire from the respective
respondents.

B. SECONDARY DATA:
The present research study is also based on secondary data. The information regarding
internship program in SNDT Women’s University is gathered from the internship manual,
available on the website of SNDT Women’s University.

1.6.2 SAMPLE SIZE


For the present research study it has chosen the sample size of respondents from the
various departments of SNDT Women’s University in Mumbai such as commerce, economics,
languages, Political science & Music, sociology, and Psychology.

1.6.3 STATISTICAL TOOLS FOR DATA ANALYSIS:


With the use of statistical tools the researcher analysis data, collected through primary
source i.e. structured questionnaire. It is necessary to analyze the collected data to put the final
conclusion for the research study. The statistical tools used for analysis the data are as under:

a. Percentage method
b. Ranking method

A. PERCENTAGE METHOD:
Percentage method is a specific type of method which makes comparison between two
Series of data. It helps to compare the relative item and provide it a common base.

percentage= number of respondents / total no. of respondents * 100

B. RANKING METHOD:
Also, through the ranking method data collection is presented with the help of Microsoft
Excel and Microsoft Word. The other tools are used to present the collected data are as
under:
 Tables
 Graphs
 Bar Graphs
 Pie chart.
