By the end of Aurangzeb’s reign the authority of the Mughal Emperors was declining, successors became
weak and fighting for the throne. Successors also indulged in pleasure seeking habits. Hindus were not
happy with his reign and after his death, Muslim power and influence over India, which had been so strong,
began to disintegrate. At this time Shah Wali Ullah was growing up.

Faraizi movement was founded by Haji Shariat Ullah He emphasized that Muslims should act upon Faraiz
only i.e. prayer (Namaz), Fasting (Roza), Hajj and Zakaat. Hence his movement came to be known as
Faraizi Movement. After the death of Haji Shariat Ullah his son Mohammad Mohsin organized the
movement in which a systematic way that it became stronger and popular. It proved to be a public
movement. The Faraizi Movement also paid full attention to the problems faced by the peasant. They
became so courageous that they refused to bend before the threatening force of landlords.
