Teaching and Learning Sequence

Introduction/Anticipatory Set
1. Call the students to the rug for a lesson. Tell the students that
today we will be reviewing all of the letter sounds that we know
and have been working on since the beginning of the year.
2. Tell the students that before they are doing the video that we
will pull sticks (popsicle name sticks) and use flashcards to go
over the letter sounds. Pull a stick, call the name of the child that
is on the stick and flip a flashcard. The children can pick a
flashcard from a pile on the rug or you can flip one for them.
Whatever letter the child gets ask them to identify the letter and
the sound that the letter makes. Continue until you have gone
through all 26 letters.
3. Tell the students, now that we have gone over all of our letter
sounds we are going to work on them and work on our bodies.
Tell them that you have created a work out video that not only is
exercise, but also practice for learning the beginning letter
sounds. Tell the students that some of them will be called one on
one to help Miss Criswell know what you know while they are
exercising.
Lesson Development
4. After you have finished the introductory activity, put the video on
and watch the students. After you have watched one time, pull
the students one by one to do one on one letter and sound
identification with you.
5. Put the “Alphabet Workout” video on and repeat several times.
As the video is going, select struggling students to identify their
letter sounds.
6. After you have tested the struggling students to see how much
more word study is needed to get the class up to par on their
letter sounds, repeat the video and workout with the students.
Closure
7. After the video is complete, repeat the flashcard activity.
8. Tell the students that for homework they should share the
“Alphabet Workout” with their parents, siblings, or friends in the
neighborhood.

Assessment
Formative: Teacher will observe the students throughout the flashcard
activity and notice who is participating actively and voicing their letters
during the “Alphabet Workout” video.

Summative: Students that work one on one with the teacher will have
an evaluation sheet in which the letters where they correctly identify
the corresponding sound will be saved in their file. Other students will
be noted during the flashcard activity.
