Karen Pryor has been one of they key figures in pioneering and popularising ‘positive

6) Sophia Yin
Sophia Yin aided in getting the veterinary profession to adopt ‘Low Stress Handling’
techniques and produced books and DVD’s on the topic aimed at veterinary hospitals
and other businesses. She also wrote How to Behave So Your Dog Behaves

an effort to communicate the science of dog training and how to use it to solve
behavioural problems.
Sophia along with Lili Chin also put together a hugely popular range of posters on dog
body language that could be purchased and used to educate clients. Unfortunately
Sophia Yin died in 2014 but she continues to live on through her work. The fact she
was so heavily mentioned in responses to the first article is a testament to that.

7) Kathy Sdao
Like many great trainers Kathy began working with marine mammals such as whales
and dolphins. She even worked for the U.S Navy to train dolphins for open-ocean
tasks. Kathy has been an animal trainer for 30 years, consulted for Guide Dogs for the
Blind, written for the Seattle Times and even featured on Bill Nye’s The Science Guy –
pretty impressive!
