Descriptive report on teaching experience during Covid-19
English as a Second Language (TESL) under University of Sultan Zainal Abidin (UniSZA) has
directly corrected my view regarding teaching and learning process that actually needs a lot of
patience and hard work. The teaching practicum for six weeks that supposedly to be 3 months at
Sekolah Kebangsaan Padang Air has also helped me in terms of leadership and social skills as I
need to interact with others staff and school teachers in exchanging opinions on education system
and handling school programs also other curricular activities that can increase my teaching
professionalism.
I have been assigned to teach around 30 students in a classroom coming from different
background of family, educational level and behavior that needs me to really understand each
one of them in order to facilitate their learning process. This is because there are around 10 slow

encouragement and given chances to try new things and explore more as they are in high state of
Being an English teacher in a rural area school, the challenge are focus on making the
students feels confident and used to speak in English comfortably at least with their friends. This
challenge arises due to unsupportive surrounding and lack of awareness in terms of future
benefits in mastering English language such as work commitment. Hence, I often use visual aids
like flashcards and incorporate high-tech by bringing them to computer lab to attract students’
interest aligned with the 21st century learning. Through this, I can incorporate many language
skills such as listening and speaking and students have chance to learn many new vocabularies as
the learning are not solely using textbook. As Covid-19 hit our country, I think there would be no
issue to have a normal learning process as lesson also can be done through online learning such
as making a teaching video or doing assessment together with students through any video-calling
platform.
