Inspirational speaker Simon Sinek proposes that good leadership and the right environment are

the key factors in earning people’s trust and cooperation in an organization and what makes
people safe.
The environment is the key. Sinek argues that having the right environment will lead to
better organization, where people are able to do extraordinary things. Sinek gave an
example about a captain named William Swenson and his ally, who bravely went through
the fire to save their dead comrades. Sinek said, “ Captain Swenson bend over and give
him a kiss.” This is something that does not happen often. It only happens when there’s
a strong connection or bond between them.

People feel safe in their job if their leader makes a good choice. Sinek points out
that if a leader decides to prioritize the safety and lives of people in the organization,
people will continue to feel safe and protected. Also, Sinek added that a leader would do
anything for its people the same way a great parent does to their children, such as giving
opportunities, chances, and support. As a result, unexpected things will happen.
Otherwise, poor leadership discourages people from thriving, and it can weaken the
organization.

A leader takes sacrifice so that the people may gain. Sinek argues that when a
leader takes sacrifice to help people, people will do the same thing. Good leaders do not
sacrifice the people to protect their interests. Instead, they sacrifice it to save the people.
Therefore, if people feel respected, they will work hard and give their best. Thence, it will
benefit the organization.

Overall, power does not make a good leader. As Sinek stated, “Leadership is a
choice, not a rank.” Not all people in the higher rank fit the definition of a leader. Good
leaders look after their people before themselves, prioritize people’s safety, and make
sacrifices.
