System requirements
- 1 Macintosh OS X or new versions, with 4 Gb RAM (minimum).
- 1 Max / MSP 6.0 (or later) application.
- 1 mixing console with more than 8 out audio busses.
- A wireless microphone to the mouth of the performer.
- A microphone for the keys of the instrument.
- A soundboard (ex: RME Fireface 400), with a MIDI input.
- 4 loudspeakers (eg 600 W).
- 1 MIDI trigger pedal for the saxophonist.

About the sound

All sound material is spatialized over 8 speakers (8.0).
One should amplify the live sound using the two frontmost speakers.
This work focuses on the outbreak of 73 events.
The 73 events are played by the saxophonist with the MIDI pedal.
The patch diffuses 14 audio files and several treatments.

- download and install MaxMSP 6.0 (or later).

- copy the SIKURI I file/patch in a folder on your hard disk.
- launch MaxMSP
- declare the folder containing the SIKURI I files in Max “File Preferences”.
- set the DSP status (using the driver of your soundboard)

SIKURI I (english)

Sikuri means Siku player, American panpipe flute in Aymara language . This instrument of South American has inspired the writing of
the piece in the form and in the modes of sound production . The Siku can be played in two ways, with the city way, so all the notes played by
a musician, or rustic way with two interrelated musicians each one with half notes. This technique requires less breath (very useful in high
altitude ) more synchronisation between performers to produce a stereo effect.

Following research about the sound of Siku, I am still fascinated by the amount of the resulting sounds filtering done by the position of
the mouth or the intensity of breath. Thus I decided to continue the same approach with electroacoustic , with the use of different filters that
affect the sound of the saxophone. This filter allows me to get a curtain that often mask the sound of the saxophone. and thus be able to
imagine a whole hidden world, distant, full of unknown sounds or simply forsake submerged in the unconscious and that only distance allows
me to dream.

Sikuri veut dire joueur de Siku, flûte de pan en langue Aymara. Cet instrument d’origine sud-américaine a inspiré l’écriture de la pièce
dans la forme ainsi que dans les modes de production du son. Le Siku peut être joué de deux façons, la façon citadine avec l’intégralité des
notes jouées par un musicien, ou la façon campagnarde avec deux musiciens interdépendants n'ayant chacun que la moitié des notes et qui se
répondent. Cette technique demande moins de souffle (très utile en haute altitude), plus de synchronisation entre les deux interprètes et
provoque un effet stéréophonique.

Suite à des recherches à propos du son du Siku, je suis resté fasciné par la quantité des sons résultants du filtrage fait par la position de
la bouche ou l’intensité du souffle. C’est ainsi que j’ai décidé de poursuivre la même démarche avec l'électroacoustique, avec l’utilisation de
différents filtres qui agissent sur le son du saxophone. Ce filtrage me permet d’obtenir un rideau qui masque souvent le son du saxophone, et
ainsi pouvoir imaginer tout un monde caché, lointain, plein de sons inconnus ou simplement délaissés submergés dans l’inconscient et seule
la distance me permet d'en rêver.

SIKURI I (español)

Sikuri es el nombre que se le da al intérprete que toca el Siku, en idioma Aymara. Este instrumento de origen sudamericano ha
inspirado la redacción de la pieza en la forma y en los modos de producción de sonido. El Siku se puede tocar de dos maneras, a la manera
citadina, con todas las notas tocadas por un músico, o de manera rústica, con dos músicos, cada uno con la mitad de las notas. Esta técnica
requiere menos aliento (muy útil en la altura), además de la sincronización entre los músicos el resultado provoca un efecto estéreo.

A raíz de la investigación sobre el sonido de Siku , me quedé fascinado por la cantidad de sonidos resultantes del filtrado producido por
la posición de la boca o de la intensidad de la respiración. Así decidí de seguir el mismo enfoque con electroacústica, con el uso de diferentes
filtros que afectan el sonido del saxofón. Este filtro me permite que conseguir una cortina que a menudo enmascara el sonido del saxofón y en
consecuencia imaginar un mundo oculto todo, distante, lleno de sonidos desconocidos o simplemente abandonados, sumergido en el
inconsciente y que sólo la distancia me permite soñar.
