It is essential for students and teachers to have a good relationship, which could improve the
learning effects pretty much. As teachers are usually proficient in their own fields to some degree, I
believe it’s more important that they communicate well with students.

An interesting teacher could arouse students’ desires for knowledge and attract attentions in class.
As a high school student, I have experienced lots of different teachers and heard many stories. For
instance, there was a homeroom teacher in my junior high who was not popular at all among
students. He often punished students for some small stakes, not only that, parents finally petitioned
to replace him for him swearing all the time. I can say without doubts that he was an earnest and
passionate teacher, but obviously none of these matter if he does not treat students well.

Another example happened in my current school. My history teacher speaks like a robot, and many
students feel bored in his class and could easily fell asleep. Someone with good grades does not
equal a good teacher, just like a native speaker doesn’t necessarily know how to teach his language.
I have once heard a math teacher who teach poorly and often get fired by high schools, as he would
spend like five weeks listing details in one page or chapter. But through flaws in the education
system, he can always regain faculty by passing civil service exams.

To master some subjects is only the very basic step of being a decent teacher. I believe a teacher
should be qualified of many attributes, especially the ability to relate well with students and teach
as a friend. Fine communication depends on fine interpersonal relationship, not to say passing
down knowledge. I know what students think since I am currently one, so trust me, those old
sayings about teachers must build prestige at first have absolutely no reasons.
