CH-4 oils and Cl- 4 oils that have not met the requirements of Caterpillar's ECT-1 specification may cause reduced engine life. + API.CG-4 multigrade oils are acceptable for all Caterpillar diesel engines. When the API CG-4 oils are used, the oil drain interval should not exceed the standard oil drain interval for your engine. ‘The proper SAE viscosity grade of oil is determined by the minimum ambient temperature during cold engine start-up, and the maximum ambient temperature during engine operation. To determine the oil viscosity that is required for starting a cold soaked engine, refer to the minimum temperature in Table 1. To select the oil viscosity for operation at the highest anticipated ambient temperature, refer to the maximum temperature in the Table. Use the highest oil viscosity that is available in order to meet the required temperature during start-up. Lubricant Capacities Page 2 of 3 ‘The capacity of the engine lubrication system includes the capacity of the oil filters that are insfalled at ihe factory. Auxiliary oil filter systems (if equipped) will require additional oil. Refer to the specifications that are provided by the OEM of the aussiliary oil filter system. 3508 Engine Table 2 Approximate Refill Capacities for 3508 Engine Lubrication § ‘Compartment or System Liters US Gallons Standard sump (271) 60 US gal Deep sump (443 Ly 117 US gal 3512 Engine Yable 3 Approximate Refill Capacities for 3512 Engine Lubrication Systems Compartment or System Liters US Gallons Standard sump G81) 84 US gal Deep sump (625 L) 165 US gal 3516 Engine Table 4 Approximate Refill Capacities for 3516 Engine Lubrication Systems ‘Compartment or System Liters US Gallons Standard sump (405 L) 107 US gal Deep sump (R07 L) 213 LIS gal Page 3 of 3
