Explain the medications/treatment for this disease

An ear tube insertion into the eardrum to reduce

the occurrence of ear infections and allow
Tympanostomy tube drainage of excess fluids. Once inside the ear,
these tubes will:
 Reduce pressure
 Drain fluid
 Prepare the ear for treatment drops
Help reduce the frequency and intensity of
vertigo attacks for the majority of patients.
Meniett therapy
Positive pressure therapy uses a device (such as
the Meniett®) placed in the external ear to
generate a sequence of low-pressure (micro-
pressure) pulses.
- ITS can be used in patients with intractable MD
to conservative and medical treatment before
intratympanic gentamicin and surgical
treatments. With steroid, there is little risk of
hearing loss, chronic symptoms of dizziness
Intratympanic injection of
dexamethasone
- Dexamethasone (8 mg/2 cc) ampoule was
instilled into the ear by slowly syringing
through the tube, and patients remained
supine with the head angled slightly head
down and turned to the contralateral side for
30 min to continually bathe the round window
with dexamethasone
- This is usually a last resort treatment for
meniere's patients who have severe attacks of
vertigo. ITG would act to alleviate the patient's
Intratympanic gentamicin symptoms of vertigo while preserving hearing.
injection
- Gentamicin is injected through the eardrum
using a narrow needle. The drug is left in the
middle ear for 30 minutes, and then allowed
to drain out through the eustachian tube into
the throat.
Benzodiazepines work to reduce anxiety and
promote restful sleep by binding to the gamma-
Benzodiazepines aminobutyric acid-A (GABA-A) receptors in the
brain. These medications enhance the activity of
GABA, a neurotransmitter that calms brain
activity.
SSRIs may be a therapeutic option for the
Serotonin selective re-uptake relapse of Ménière's disease following intensive
inhibitors (SSRIs) therapy. SSRIs may have a central balancing
effect on vertigo attacks of MD. Escitalopram
can control vertigo attacks in MD.
Diuretics These medications relieve the inner ear fluid
build-up thereby reducing vertigo frequency
and avoiding hearing loss progression.
The first-line treatment commonly includes
DIET dietary modification such as restriction of salt,
caffeine, alcohol intake

The low salt intake is believed to be helpful in

lowering endolymphatic pressure
