DPTEG confirmed that a minimum English level is required by STCW and therefore it is also
required by DP courses.
Training Centres may allow students to use a dictionary during the examination however
this must only be in the English language.

The number of questions for the exam: there are forty (40) questions to be answered in

the same day the student finishes the Basic course.
o The second attempt should be taken within 24 hours of the first exam at the
same training centre.
o The third attempt must be completed within 6 months from the date of the first
attempt in any training centre.

about it and respect the procedures related to the number of attempts for each candidate.
Failure to comply with these requirements will bring complications to students when applying
for DP certificate as the NI will not accept applications that has not successful completed the
online system. Please note that the pass mark is automatically provided to the Nautical Institute
database at the candidate’s account.

Results: The system displays a summary report at the end of the exam to each candidate.
Centres are advised to keep one copy for its control and hand a second copy to students. These
