Lesson 10: Reflection

A part-time job is one in which the weekly hours performed are less than those of a full-time
employment. To meet the demands of their professions, they work in shifts. Rotational shifts are a
regular occurrence.Part-time employees regularly work fewer than 30 hours each week. When
addressing workplace diversity, part-timers must be included as part of the workforce. If a position is
classified part-time, it is determined by the company's policy and practice for identifying personnel, as
well as the number of hours required to be considered full-time.An employer may identify a worker as
part-time if they work less than 35 hours per week, for example. Part-time employees include
students, parents, retirees, and other workers who do not desire or require a full-time commitment.
Some individuals may work two or more part-time jobs instead of working full-time at one firm.

Part-time employees, particularly for smaller businesses, can keep costs down in areas where full-
time coverage is not yet necessary. Using a part-timer to support full-time staff can help you save
money on overtime while also reducing employee stress and absenteeism.Part-time employees may
also provide your firm greater flexibility in terms of covering peak periods or expanding into new
areas. Part-timers can also be used to supplement your existing workforce with specific skills. This
helps your business to grow without needing to invest a large sum of money. Part-time employees
might help to show that your firm has a diverse workforce. This is especially important for
organizations that fight for issues such as women's rights, parenting, or ageism, which all have a
large number of potential part-time workers.

As a result, while hiring part-timers offers several advantages over recruiting full-time employees, it
also has certain disadvantages. According to Kokemuller, part-time work benefits the firm (2015). The
first advantage is lower costs, which is one of the most well-known benefits of using part-time
employees. The second factor is adaptation. If the workload does not need it, the employer may opt
out.Part-time employees are less committed than full-time employees since they spend less time at
work and find it easier to leave owing to the lack of full-time salary and benefits. Last but not least,
there is knowledge. They generally have less understanding and experience with the company
because they work less.
