Topic: How perception of beauty varies from cultures.

Liv Tyler once said: “There is no definition of beauty, but when you can see
someone's spirit coming through, something unexplainable, that's truly
beautiful.” Each individual has a unique definition of beauty. Some consider a
pretty face beautiful, some long for a slim body, and some treasure the inner
values. There is no such thing as “ultimate true beauty” as beauty is not
comparable. People do not follow the same standards, have the same
preferences and ideals. Therefore, countries with different cultures also have
diverse perceptions of beauty. Apparently, in Australia, women with bright pink
flusher, bright red lipstick, and a light tan are seen as attractive. Pale skin and
reddish hair comply with German beauty standards, while long eyelashes and full-
face makeup are pretty in Greece. Additionally, Asians also have their principles of
beauty. Koreans’ makeup looks are often light, sweet, and cute, whereas Indians
prefer thick eyebrows, a bold lips color, and henna- a spiritual symbol of wealth,
health, and love. This proves that beauty is in the eye of the beholder and women
can freely express their perceptions of beauty based on fashion, makeup and
accessories. However, many standards of beauty in some countries are rather
harsh, which require painful and absurd efforts. For instance, elite European
women used to pluck out their hair, one by one, from their natural hairline back
to the crowns of their heads, to achieve the high, rounded foreheads which were
considered beautiful and aristocratic at the time. Moreover, in China, upper-class
girls would get their feet tightly bound, folding the bones, and permanently
stunting their growth to a mere 3 or 4 inches, which were considered beautiful
and elegant. To sum up, the motivation and the desire to remain youthful and
attractive always play an essential role in every person’s life since time memorial.
It is an undeniable fact that cultures have an impeccable impact on the way
humans define beauty. Thus, people do not need to fit in and try to look perfect
as everyone has flaws, and not all beauty is the same.
