Transcript: (Music plays) Environmental hello everyone and welcome back to another Envitalyfe session. Now, I’ll admit, life doesn’t always go as planned and to be honest, it can get overwhelming at times. Being mindful and aware of our emotions is essential to healthier living. As an avid writer and learner, I see stress and challenges as a motivational push to create something beautiful, mainly through word usage and play. I have been involved in the beautiful art performance of Spoken Word, which is a creative outlet of mine, for quite some time. I remember writing haiku and poetry as a kid and creating these, these moving experiences for people through my recollective memories, especially in the environmental area. I have here bunch of Spoken Word pieces, written down just for my own eyes to, sort of inspire me further to stay on this journey and going back to why I began in the first place. I have one in front of me that I wrote a while ago and I just wanted to share it with all of you in my hopes of inspiring you, and therefore encouraging change. The piece I’m about to share is entitled: “An uninvited guest”. I’ll explain the story behind it. As a kid, growing up on the island of Guam, I have experienced and I’m familiar with what we island community called typhoons. It is the same weather phenomenon as hurricanes. Now, I’ve witnessed these devastating weather events that have destroyed homes, ruined lives and resulted in family members losing loved ones. And each time a disastrous typhoon hit home, it required the support of communities and government to rebuild and restart our lives. Once again, at times, we were left without power for months, drinkable and running water was scarce, and it left me completely broken each time. The one positive outcome was the pride, love and resilience of not only my village, but more importantly, the island community. The Spoken Word piece I will recite as my motivation to fight against climate change and use my experiences to change this world through different vehicles, including creative outlets. Enjoy. “An uninvited guest”: State of bliss, or pattern of mistreatment, nonetheless have been poisoned by selfish greed and prideful disagreements. How could this happen? Were we even there? Did I voice my concerns loudly enough? First of all, did I even care? Track back in time, stand up for mine, my home, our home. I have seen this image of threat before, as if it was some source of uninvited guest. I turned it away, more than once. There’s that sound once more: Knock knock knock, the uninvited guest. Faking its embrace with seasonal comforting masts is real threat. Forcing migrations, rising sea-level, pollution amongst other terrifying ramifications, you place a wager on worst events in the future, you’ll surely win that bet. Why should I care? No, why should WE care? The fate of humanity is driven by one determining factor: you. Be the driving force against climate change, let the momentum moral of resilience to run through your veins. My story is here while I stomp on fear, where the hope for the world is the direction I steer. Well, at least for me, my story is there. (Ending: music plays) III.
