8: Divergence Theorem

Recall the divergence form of Green’s Theorem: Letting F = ⟨f, g⟩, under the proper conditions on F and C,
I
f dy − g dx =
C

Divergence Theorem: Let F(x, y, z) = ⟨f, g, h⟩ be a vector field for which f , g, and h have continuous partial derivatives on
a connected and simply connected region D ⊆ R3 that is bounded by a positively oriented surface S. Then

1. Set up an iterated integral thatpgives the outward flux of F = ⟨xy 2 , yx2 , 9⟩ through the positively oriented surface of the
solid bounded by the cone z = x2 + y 2 and plane z = 4.

2. Let D be the solid bounded by the planes z = 4 − y and x = 6 in the first octant. Set up an iterated integral that gives the
flux integral of F = ⟨xez , yez , ez ⟩ across the boundary of D, positively oriented.

Extension to hollow regions:

With all other conditions the same as in the Divergence Theorem, but D is a region whose boundary S is given by the
union Z Z S1 ⊆ S2 each oriented with the outward normal vectors n1 and n2 , respectively, then
