Tripartite Theory of the Soul

The Tripartite Theory of the Soul is based on the idea that our soul is divided into three parts,
as depicted in the image. The Charioteer, the Black Horse, and the White Horse The black
horse represents our inner desires as "appetites." The white horse represents our
"spiritedness," or noble thoughts or emotions such as bravery, and the charioteer represents
"reason," or things such as knowledge and wisdom. The ultimate goal is to discover the true
and good form of knowledge and wisdom for all time. Our reason must "collaborate" with
our spirit to control our appetites and become more virtuous,
