FF1

2000 Years Ago:

• An endless time loop begins when Garland, a knight from the present, enters into
a deal with the four Fiends to become the demon king Chaos. He sends the Fiends
2000 years into the future to wreak havoc. When they are finally defeated in the
present, he uses their power to become Chaos. The Light Warriors from the
present finally travel back in time to the Temple of Fiends to vanquish Chaos and
disrupt the time loop.
• The sages at Crescent Lake foresee four Light Warriors who will free the world
from the destruction of the Fiends.

200 Years Ago:

• The four Fiends: Lich, Kary, Kraken, and Tiamat, begin wreaking havoc on the
world. Lich causes the ground near the town of Melmond to brown away and
wither. Kraken and Tiamat cause the confinement and eventually, almost
extinction of the race of Lufenia. Tiamat takes over the Lufenish Floating Castle,
which they used to live in.

Some Time Ago:

• The town of Pravoca is overtaken by Bikke and his pirate gang.

• Astos, the Dark Elf, steals the crystal of the witch Matoya and causes the prince
of the Elves to become grievously ill. However, he somehow loses his Crown in
the Cave of Marsh.

Present:

• Princess Sarah, daughter of the king of Cornelia, is captured by Garland and taken
to his castle (formerly the Temple of Chaos). She is rescued by the four Light
Warriors who show up out of nowhere, each holding an Orb. The Orbs
correspond to the four Elementals, and all have lost their shine.
• In thanks, the king builds a bridge to the east to allow the Light Warriors to
continue their quest.
• The Light Warriors defeat the pirate Bikke, who gives them his ship in thanks for
not cutting his head off.
• Deceived by Astos (who poses as a human king), the Light Warriors retrieve the
Crown from the Cave of Marsh. Upon returning it to Astos, he betrays them and
reveals his true form. However, the Light Warriors turn on him and slay him.
• The Light Warriors take the Crystal, hoarded by Astos, back to Matoya. In
exchange, Matoya gives them a herb to cure the Elven prince with.
• Upon delivering the herb, the Elven prince gives the Light Warriors a magical key
which can unlock any door. They use this to obtain TNT held inside Cornelia
Castle.
• They deliver the TNT to a dwarf named Nelic, who builds a canal to the west.
• The Light Warriors arrive in Melmond and see the carnage caused by Lich. They
head into the Terra Cavern and defeat a vampire living in its depths, but arrive at
an impasse when the staircase to descend further is blocked off.
• They deliver the Ruby they find in the cave to a Titan, who allows them passage
to Sage Sarda. Sarda offers them a magical Rod which can open the passageway
downward. They follow the cave to its furthest depths to meet Lich and defeat
him. The Earth Orb shines again.
• Lukin, a Sage in the town of Crescent Lake, gives the Light Warriors a Canoe to
reach the Mount Gulg. They plumb its depths and defeat Kary, the Fire Fiend,
restoring another Orb.
• The Light Warriors retrive the Floater Stone from the Ice Cavern and use it to
resurrect the ancient Airship, allowing them full reign of the world's geography.
• The Light Warriors buy a Bottle from a desert merchant and use it to trap a fairy
in the town of Onlak. The fairy gives them Oxyale, which allows them to breathe
underwater. Thus fortified, they tackle the Sunken Shrine. They find a Rosetta
Stone, a clue for the Lufenish language, which has long been lost. They also find
the Water Fiend, Kraken, and defeat him to restore the third Orb.
• Dr. Unne in Melmond uses the Slab to teach the Light Warriors the language of
the Lufenish. They travel to the sole remaining Lufenish town to discover the
attempt of Tiamat to destroy them. They are given a Chime with which to enter
the Tower of Mirage, which in turn leads to the Floating Castle.
• The Light Warriors travel to a waterfall cave, where a robot, programmed by the
Lufenish, provides them with a Cube which allows them access to the Floating
Tower. They travel there, using the Chime and Cube, and defeat Tiamat, restoring
the last Orb.
• 2000 years in the past, Garland uses the power of the defeated Fiends to become
the demon king Chaos.
• The Light Warriors, on the advice of the Crescent Lake Sages, use the time
teleporter in the Temple of Fiends to travel back in time 2000 years, when they
finally defeat Chaos.

Side Quests

• The dragons on Cardia Island, led by King Bahamut, put the Light Warriors
through a test. They enter the Castle of Ordeal and bring back a Rat's Tail. Their
skills are greatly enhanced by the dragon king.
FF2

• The evil Paramecia Empire has an iron grip on the world. A rebel army, led by the
king of Fynn, tries to organize a coup against the Empire, but fails time and time
again.
• The empire is able to overrun the kingdom of Kas'ion because of the actions of
Borghen, its general, who betrayed the kingdom. Gordon and Scott, the princes of
Kas'ion, travel to Altair help the king out in his ventures.
• In an attack to attempt to regain Fynn Castle, both the king of Fynn and Scott of
Kas'ion are fatally wounded. The king's daughter, Hilda, takes the king to Altair,
the rebel base, and takes over in his stead. Scott, unable to escape, is hidden
underground by a member of the Rebels.
• Four youths, Firion, Gus, Maria, and Leon, are also fighting against the Empire.
They are wounded in battle. Leon is taken by the enemy, but the rebels rescue the
other three. They are taken to Altair.
• Leon is brainwashed by the Paramecian Emperor and takes on the persona of a
Dark Knight. He is put in charge of the mission to build a giant Warship for the
Empire, which is based in the city of Bafsk.
• The three youths decide to search for Maria's brother Leon. Their first stop is
Fynn, where the passwords they learned from Hilda gain them access to Scott's
deathbed. They take Scott's ring to Hilda, where they learn more of the rebels'
plans. Without the legendary metal, Mithril, the rebels have no chance against the
Empire. Hilda sends the three youths, along with her magician Mindu (Minu), to
Semitt Cave to procure some. Mindu has a canoe which allows them to travel
east.
• They travel from the city of Paloom by sea to Poft, and from there via an airship
owned by a man named Cid, to reach Semitt Cave. Villagers from the city of
Salamand are forced to mine for Mithril here. Two of the miners are Pavel, a
thief, and Nellie, the daughter of Josef from Salamand. They are rescued by the
three youths and Mindu, who also find a cache of Mithril, which they return to
Altair with.
• Hilda now decides to send the youths and Mindu to Bafsk to stop the building of
the Warship. When they arrive they overhear rumors that the Dark Knight has
been called back to Paramecia, and Borghen has taken his place as overseer of the
Warship project. However, Borghen is sloppier than the Dark Knight, and the
youths manage to sneak in via the sewers. However, the Dark Knight is waiting
for them, and informs them that the Warship is already complete; he and Borghen
escape on it. They strafe several cities and kill many people. Gordon escapes to
Kas'ion to attempt to retrieve an item called the Sunfire; most think he just ran
away. Before leaving Bafsk, the three youths pick up a pass that the Dark Knight
leaves behind.
• Cid in Poft tells them that the only way to destroy the Warship is by throwing the
Sunfire into its engines. The Flame resides on the lowest floor of Kas'ion.
However, to be able to carry the flame they require the Ergil Torch, which itself
resides on the highest floor of Kas'ion. To be able to get even there, however, they
also require the Goddess Bell to open the door. The Bell is hidden in the Snow
Cave to the north.
• Josef of Salamand knows the way to the Snow Cave, but in order to cross the
Snow Field they will require the Ice Sled, which is hidden back in Semitt Cave.
Josef and the three youths travel there and pick up the Ice Sled. They travel to the
Snow Cave. Aided by friendly beavers (whom apparently only Gus can
understand) they find the Goddess Bell. However, Borghen the traitor shows up.
He is defeated by the party, but causes an avalanche which forces Josef to
sacrifice himself to save the others.
• The three youths now travel to Kas'ion, where they meet Gordon, who joins them.
Together they collect both the Ergil Torch and the Sunfire. Hilda and Cid arrive in
Cid's airship to take you back to Altair, but they are intercepted by the Warship
and both Hilda and Cid are taken prisoner.
• The pass left by the Dark Knight gains the three youths and Gordon access to the
Warship. They sneak inside, rescue Hilda and Cid, and throw the Sunfire into the
Warship's engine, destroying it.
• Back in Altair, the wounded king rewards Gordon by giving him a post in Altair;
he also sends the magician Mindu to look for the legendary ultimate magic spell,
Ultima. The king sends the three youths to Deist Castle, home of the Dragoons, in
hope of gaining their support. The king then passes away.
• The three youths take a ship from Paloom to Deist. However, it turns out to be a
pirate ship, led by a woman named Leila. However, the youths defeat the pirates,
and Leila joins their quest and lends them her ship.
• In Deist Castle, there are only two survivors, a woman and child. They tell the
party that all the Dragoons have been killed, and there is only one dragon (Wind
Drake) left. However, no non-Dragoon can understand the Wind Drake without a
magical Pendant which is hidden in Deist Cave.
• They find the Pendant. The Wind Drake tells them that it is dying. It mentions
that there is one Dragoon named Gareth, who escaped the destruction of Deist
when he left to look for Ultima as well. Finally, the Wind Drake asks the party to
take its egg to the Spring of Life inside Deist Cave. They do so, and return to
Altair.
• On their arrival they discover that Hilda has been captured, and a doppelganger (a
Lamia) has been ruling in her place. They dispatch the monster and learn where
Hilda is being held: at an Arena, where the Emperor plans on giving her away as a
prize to whoever beats the monsters there. Gordon accompanies the youths there
while Leila stays in Altair.
• The youths and Gordon beat the monster, but are betrayed by the Emperor and
taken prisoner. However, they are rescued by Pavel, the thief, as a reward for
rescuing him from Semitt Cave. They regain Hilda and return to Altair, where
Gordon stays.
• With the help of Mithril and Leila's pirates, the rebels have organized themselves
to be ready to attack the Emperor's stronghold in Fynn Castle. Everyone has
moved to a camp near the castle. They succeed in defeating Gotus, the
guardsman, and Fynn is retaken.
• Hilda tells them that since Mindu has not returned from his quest for Ultima, they
should go to Mysidia to search for him. To do so, though, they need the White
Mask hidden in the Fynn Castle Basement. With a hint from Pavel, they find it
and head for Mysidia.
• They learn that the Ultima magic is hidden in Mysidia Tower. To enter, they need
the Crystal Rod hidden in the Mysidia Cave; to gain access to that, they need the
Black Mask hidden in Tropical Island. They collect the mask and rod, and head to
the tower, which lies inside a crescent-shaped coral reef.
• Before they can get there, they are swallowed by Leviathan, a sea monster who
defends the Ultima spell. Leila disappears. They find an entire village of people
swallowed by the monster as they searched for Ultima; included in these is the
Dragoon Gareth, who joins them. Eventually they find their ship and escape
Leviathan's maw to enter Mysidia Tower. They find four crystal orbs and the
Ultima magic inside the tower; Mindu sacrifices himself to break the seal to the
Ultima magic.
• When they come out they discover that the Paramecian Emperor has unleashed a
whirlwind which destroyed Altair, Gatea, Paloom, and Poft, and Fynn is under
attack. Powerful monsters have been unleashed on the world as well. Leila is in
Fynn, having gotten out of Leviathan by herself. They discover that the egg from
Deist Cave has hatched into a Wind Drake, which flies them to the Whirlwind,
where the Emperor hides.
• They manage to reach the Emperor and defeat him, but he has signed a pact with
the Devil after which he is allowed to return from death. Before he does so,
though, the Dark Knight takes over the Emperor's throne and rules from
Paramecia Castle.
• Cid, who was fatally wounded by the Whirlwind, leaves his Airship to the three
youths and Gareth. They use it to reach the mountain-bound Paramecia Castle.
When they reach the throne room, the newly-resurrected Emperor tries to kill the
three youths, Gareth, and the Dark Knight, who reveals his real self as Leon.
Gareth Deistracts the emperor long enough for the other four to escape, but is
killed for his efforts.
• The emperor changes Paramecia Castle to Pandaemonium, which is connected to
Hell. The four youths manage to reach the new castle by going through the
magical Jade Portal. They confront the Emperor and defeat him for once and for
all.

Side Quests:

• South of Kas'ion is a secret forest where a Chocobo lives. If you catch it you can
ride it without being accosted by enemies.
• If you visit Gareth's house after he dies, his wife gives you the Excalibur sword.
FF3

Many Years Ago:

• The great archmage Noah is about to expire. He divides his legacy among his
three students. To Doga he gives the realm of magic, to Unei the realm of dreams,
and to Xande the realm of humans. However, Xande despises his role and yearns
to rule all three worlds. To that extent, he summons the Cloud of Darkness out of
the World of Darkness to do his bidding.
• Another student, Owen, decides to create a Floating Continent. He builds a tower
to control it, and appoints his son Desch to watch over the tower. However, the
tower is taken over by monsters, and Desch is thrown out, losing his memory in
the catastrophe.

Present:

• Four young boys are lost in the Altar Cave, near the city of Ur (in FF3DS, only
Luneth becomes lost in the cave). They come upon a large Crystal. The Water
Crystal tells them of Xande's plans, and decides that they are the four legendary
warriors destined to defeat Xande and restore order. It bestows legendary Job
classes upon the four.
• They bid farewell to their adoptive father and mother, Topapa and Nina, and start
on their journey.
• They are blocked passage to the outside world by a large boulder outside of the
city of Kazus. Upon entering Kazus they discover that everyone inside has been
transformed into shadows. Jinn, the being responsible for this, has locked himself
away in the Sealed Cave. Cid, an eccentric old man who owns an airship, lends it
to the youths to allow them to reach the Cave.
• The youths meet Princess Sara of Castle Sasune inside the Cave. She has the
Mythril Ring needed to seal Jinn, and she tags along with them. They succeed in
defeating Jinn and sealing him inside the ring. Sara takes them to Castle Sasune,
where she tosses the ring into a fountain to break the spell. The king, Sara's father,
expresses his support for the Light Warriors' mission and lends them a canoe.
• Cid enlists the help of Takka, a blacksmith in Kazus, to affix his airship with a
battering ram. Using the ram, they destroy the boulder blocking the path
outwards. However, the airship is destroyed.
• The first town the youths come across is Canaan, where Cid's home is; Cid takes
his leave of them. They continue east to a large mountain which turns out to be
the home of Bahamut, king of dragons. Upon their intrusion, he takes them to his
nest. They unexpectedly meet a mysterious man named Desch with amnesia who
is in the same predicament. Desch encourages the party to run away from the
monster; they succeed in doing so, jump out of the nest, and land in the Healing
Copse. Desch gives them the useful Mini spell, used for shrinking people's sizes,
and tags along with them in the hopes of discovering who he is.
• Trying the spell out, they discover a town of gnomes called Tozas. After giving a
sick man an Antidote, he opens a path out to the real world again. They take the
Tozas Tunnel and exit near the Viking's Cove. They discover that the Vikings are
paralyzed by a sea monster named Nepto. They lend the Light Warriors their ship
in hopes of destroying the beast. The Warriors enter Nepto's Shrine and discover
that a ruby eye from a statue of Nepto has been stolen by a giant rat. After
restoring the eye, Nepto calms the seas and rewards them by giving them the
Water Fang, one of four keys.
• The Warriors enter Gulgan Gulch, a place populated with one-eyed prophets.
They are given the Toad spell for use in turning themselves into frogs. The
Gulgans advise them to use it when entering the Tower of Owen, where Desch
will learn of his destiny.
• After defeating the monster controlling the Tower, Desch learns that he is the son
of Owen and it is his responsibility to watch over the tower. A fire breaks out
when the monster is defeated, and Desch throws himself in to quench it and
stabilize the tower and the Floating Continent.
• A new passage opens up via sea to the Dwarven Hollows, where it seems the ones
of the dwarves' two treasured Horns has gone missing, stolen by a thief named
Gutsco, who fled to an underground lake. The Warriors track him down, defeat
him, and regain the horn. However, he hides in their shadows and follows them
back to the Dwarven Hollows, where he steals both horns! He repairs to the
Molten Cave, where the Horns and the Fire Crystal allow him to transform into a
Salamander. The Warriors find and defeat him again, and free the Fire Crystal.
• Upon hearing rumors of the town of Tokkul, the Warriors travel there only to find
it deserted. They are taken to the floating Castle Hein, where the evil sorcerer
Hein has imprisoned the people of Tokkul and Castle Argus. Castle Hein is
actually a floating tree called Yggdrasil, which used to rule the fairies in the
Living Forest until Hein captured it. The Warriors succeed in defeating Hein and
restoring both Tokkul and the Living Forest; the grateful fairies give them the
second key, the Water Fang.
• The newly released king of Castle Argus, in gratitude, gives the Warriors a Time
Gear. Cid in Canaan uses it to allow their ship, the Enterprise, to fly! They find
that they are on a Floating Continent; the entire real world is beyond the clouds.
• The real world is almost completely submerged by water. They find a lone island
with a shipwreck on it. A wounded woman lies inside. The Warriors heal her with
a Potion and she introduces herself as Aria, Maiden of Water. She goes with them
to another island housing the Temple of Water. She finds shards of the Water
Crystal in here and urges them to take her to the nearby Water Cave so she can
restore the Crystal. They do so, but the effort drains Aria completely and she
passes away. The rest of the world is now revealed.
• The Warriors land in a town called Amur, but a man named Goldor has chained
up their airship! Goldor lives across a deadly swamp which can only be reached
with special shoes found in the Amur sewers. The Warriors come across four old
men who think *they're* the Light Warriors, funnily enough. Jiru, the elder of
Amur, will unlock the sewers. The Warriors rescue the foolish old men from a
pack of Goblins, and the old men realize the truth. They find an old lady named
Delilah who keeps the shoes. She's reluctant to give them away, but the four old
men suddenly show up and save the day, and Delilah gives them the shoes.
• The Warriors travel to Goldor's Mansion, which is made entirely of gold thanks to
a special Gold Crystal. After they defeat Goldor, however, he destroys the
Crystal. Their ship is released, though.
• When flying their airship over the large city of Saronia, the Warriors are shot out
of the air by a stray bullet. It seems Saronia is fighting with itself. The reason is
that Gigameth, the chancellor to King Gorn, has been controlling him. He
banished Gorn's son, Alus, from the castle. The Warriors find Alus in a bar and he
begs them to help him back to his home.
• They find the legendary Dragoon Tower in Saronia, which houses equipment
from the ancient Dragoons. Since Gigameth is only vulnerable to Dragoons, the
Warriors loot the place and change into Dragoons. King Gorn invites them into
the castle and gives them a room, but comes in the middle of the night to kill Alus
at the bequest of Gigameth. However, before he can, the king instead stabs
himself. Gigameth transforms into a giant bird, Garuda, which the Light Warriors
dispatch with the Dragoons' skills.
• The freed people of Saronia Castle replace the Warriors' airship with a faster
version, the Nautilus. They battle the winds of Doga's continent to reach his
house, where his Moogles attempt to stop them. Doga allows them in, though, and
he fills them in on the past story involving Zande. He accompanies them through
the Cave of the Circle to reach an ancient circle, which allows Doga to give the
Nautilus the ability to submerge in water. The Cave collapses, but Doga warps the
Warriors out just in time. He tells them to find the Lute, which will wake the
sleeping Unei.
• The Lute, hidden in the underwater Temple of Time, is retrieved by the Warriors
and used to awaken Unei, who gives them the third key, the Wind Fang. Unei
takes the Warriors to the Ancient Ruins, at the end of which is the enormous
Airship Invincible. She gives it to them to help them in their quest. The Invincible
helps them reach the Cave of Shadows, a huge cavern. At the end is the Earth
Fang.
• Having all four Fangs allows the Warriors to enter a continent guarded by the four
Statues of the Quest. They reach an old and enormous structure called the
Ancient's Maze. At the start lies the final Crystal, Earth, which they liberate.
However, the way forward to Xande's lair is locked. They return to Doga's Manor.
• Doga and Unei take them to Doga's Grotto, at the end of which Doga and Unei
demand that the Light Warriors fight and kill them. They are reluctant to do so,
but are attacked by the two mages. They defeat them, and from the energy
expended from their demises they receive the keys to Eureka, the Forbidden Land
and the Syrcus Tower.
• They return to the Ancient's Maze. After navigating it, they reach the first floor of
the Syrcus Tower. Eureka, which is reachable via a portal, holds all the ultimate
weapons and job classes, and reaches seven floors down. The Syrcus Tower
extends upwards. At the last floor, Xande confronts the Light Warriors and
paralyzes them. But Doga and Unei summon five souls (Cid, Alus, Sara, Desch,
and one of the old men from Amur) to help them. The Warriors defeat Xande but
the Cloud of Darkness he summoned still exists. The Cloud attacks them, but they
are revived by the five souls. They follow the Cloud of Darkness into the World
of Darkness.
• They come across four Dark Crystals, each of which holds a Dark Warrior who
helps them in their battle against the Cloud of Darkness, which they ultimately
destroy.

Side Quests:

• Cid's wife in Canaan is deathly ill. The youths heal her with an Elixir they find
dropped by a passing magician and are granted access to Cid's treasure room.
• Cities with interesting shops include the Ancients' Village on the Floating
Continent, Gysahl on the Floating Continent (it makes Magic Keys), Falgabard
(village of Magic Knights/Dark Knights), Replito (village of Summoners), Duster
(village of Bards and Geomancers), and Doga's Village (where you can buy any
magic you want).
• The Undersea Cave is replete with treasure. The Saronia Catacombs also has a lot
of treasure, and at the end resides the Odin summon. Lake Dohr and Bahamut's
Cave in the Floating Continent are home to the Leviathan and Bahamut summons,
respectively.
FF4

Many Years Ago:

• The Lunarians, a race living on the Moon, have an enormous debate about the
people of the Earth. One side, led by a man named KluYa, believed that the Earth
was a generally good place, whereas the other side, led by Zemus, believed that it
was a corrupted place and deserved to be destroyed. Zemus was overruled,
however. In desperation he attempted to destroy the Earth himself, but was
overthrown. To vow that such a thing would not happen again, the Lunarians
sealed themselves into a deep sleep, appointing only a single Lunarian named
FuSoYa (KluYa's brother) to watch over them. The sleep is guarded by eight
Crystals.
• KluYa, however, awakens from his sleep, gazes on the earth, and falls in love
with an Earth woman. He decides to forsake his race and travel there. He fathers
two sons, Cecil and Golbez.

Present:

• KluYa dies before his time. His sons are orphaned. Cecil is taken in by the king of
Baron and raised as his own.
• Zemus' dormant spirit awakens and tries to awaken his body. To do so he needs
the four Crystals of the overworld and four of the underworld, to counteract the
eight Lunarian Crystals.
• Zemus takes control of Golbez and turns him into an evil pawn. Golbez gathers
four demons known as Emperors: Milon, Cagnazzo, Valvalis, and Rubicant to
help him. Cagnazzo in particular secretly kills the king of Baron and assumes his
identity. He appoints a demon named Baigan to be his right-hand man.
• Cecil excels in the Dark Sword techniques and rises in the ranks of Baron. His
best friend, Kain, is better at the Dragon Knight skills, despite his king's urging to
be a Dark Knight as well. Cecil is finally promoted to captain of the Red Wings,
Baron's elite airship fleet, created by an engineer named Cid. Cecil also falls in
love with a White Mage from Baron named Rosa.
• Having honed the Red Wings' power, Cagnazzo as the king of Baron orders Cecil
to steal the Water Crystal from the people of Mysidia, a town of magicians, and
destroy any resistance. Expecting war, Cecil prepares for war, only to find a town
of unresisting villagers. He takes the Water Crystal, but has doubts about his king.
• Upon reaching Baron, he delivers the Water Crystal, but Baigan senses his
wavering and reports to Cagnazzo. Cagnazzo decides to get Cecil out of his way
and get rid of a thorn in his side at the same time. He demotes Cecil from the Red
Wings, then sends him and Kain to Mist, a village of Summoners, with a bomb
disguised as a package. He intends to destroy the summoners once and for all.
While Cecil is gone, Cagnazzo invites Golbez in to take control of the Red Wings.
• Cecil and Kain travel through the Mist Cave, but a white dragon stops them. They
kill the dragon. Upon entering Mist, however, they are surprised when the bomb
goes off and sets fire to the entire village. They come upon a girl weeping over
the corpse of her mother; she tells them that her mother's dragon was killed, so
due to her link with it she died as well. Cecil realizes the enormity of his deeds
and attempts to take the girl with him, but she refuses. He tries to take her by
force, but she casts a summon spell in defense. When Cecil awakes, Kain is gone
and the girl is next to him.
• Kain is taken by Golbez and brainwashed into being his servant.
• Cecil takes the girl to the oasis town of Kaipo, where he takes the unconscious
girl to the inn. In the night, however, Baron soldiers arrive looking for her. Cecil
slays them and the girl finally trusts him, giving her name as Rydia. The next day,
Cecil finds Rosa sick in bed in one of the houses in town. She arrived here
looking for him. The old man caring for her tells him that only the Light of the
Desert, found in Damcyan, can cure her. Cecil and Rydia go off to look for it.
• They take an Waterways of Baron leading to Damcyan. On the way they come
across an old man named Tellah. Tellah's a powerful sage, but can't remember
most of his magic. He's also trying to get to Damcyan; his daughter Anna has
eloped with a bard named Gilbert, whom he completely disapproves of. However,
the way is guarded by a large Octomammoth. Teaming up, Tellah, Cecil, and
Rydia get past it to Damcyan.
• Before being able to enter the castle, however, it's strafed by the Red Wings, who
steal the Fire Crystal held there. They go inside to discover Anna dying of her
wounds. Tellah goes berserk and attacks the bard, who's actually the prince of
Damcyan. Cecil stops him, but Tellah leaves on his own quest to search for the
ultimate magic spell, Meteo, determined to kill Golbez for the death of his
daughter. Gilbert agrees to take Cecil to the Antlion's Lair, which is where the
Light of the Desert resides. He lends him the royal Hovercraft to get over the
rocky shoals blocking the way.
• They find the Antlion, but it attacks them before they can get the Desert Light
from its lair. They defeat it and return to Kaipo, where they revive Rosa. Rosa
tells them that Golbez is after the four Crystals; they decide that the Wind Crystal
in Fabul would be Golbez's next target. Rosa joins them as they travel there.
• They pass through Mt. Hobs to get to Fabul. On the way they find a monk named
Yang beset by monsters. They rescue him and he introduces himself as a member
of the Fabul monks. They hurry to Fabul to fight the onslaught Golbez launches
their way. They defeat the monsters, but Kain unexpectedly shows up to fight
Cecil. He takes the Wind Crystal and returns to Golbez.
• Yang joins Cecil and crew in their fight against Golbez. Cecil and friends take a
ship in an attempt to return to Baron, but on the way they are attacked by
Leviathan, a huge Phantom Beast. The crew is scattered.
• Rydia is taken to the land of the Phantom Beasts, where she is welcome, being a
Summoner. Leviathan, king of the Beasts, takes her under his wing. Due to the
magical field there, Rydia ages rapidly, becoming a young woman far faster than
usual.
• Yang lands near Baron and is also brainwashed by Golbez, who turns him into a
palace guard.
• Gilbert lands near the city of Troia, badly wounded. The citizens of Troia tend to
him.
• Rosa is captured by Golbez and taken to the Tower of Zot, a skybound tower
where Valvalis resides.
• Cecil lands near Mysidia, where everyone is frightened of him. He manages to get
the elder of Mysidia to semi-trust him, but not quite enough. The elder says that a
Dark Knight cannot defeat Golbez; Cecil must attempt to become a Paladin
through the trials on Mount Ordeals. He appoints a pair of twins, Palom and
Porom, to accompany him and to spy on him as well. Palom is a male Black
Mage, Porom a female White Mage, both ten years old.
• Cecil meets up with Tellah on Mount Ordeals. The twins seem to have heard of
him. They both journey to the top of the mountain, where they meet Milon. They
defeat him, and his undead spirit as well. Cecil continues to the interior of Mt.
Ordeals. He meets his own dark side and defeats it by defending. He hears the
voice of his father, who grants him the power of the Paladin. Tellah also learns
Meteo, and remembers all the spells he had forgotten.
• Returning to Mysidia, the elder grants Cecil travel using the Devil's Road, a
magical passage to Baron. Palom and Porom decide to tag along as well.
Reaching Baron, they discover the brainwashed Yang, who attacks them. They
defeat him quickly, though, and he regains his memories. He finds the key to
Baron's waterway on his body, presumably put there when he was captain of the
guards.
• They use the waterway to infiltrate the castle. Once inside, Baigan pretends to
befriend Cecil, but Palom and Porom see through him and a fight ensues. After
winning, they proceed to the throne room where they destroy Cagnazzo. After
doing so, they meet Cid, who had his own plans to dethrone the king. They all
proceed to Cid's secret hiding place for his last airship, the Enterprise. However,
before they get there Cagnazzo's last breath traps them in a room with closing
walls. Palom and Porom turn themselves to stone to stop the walls from crushing
the others.
• Cecil, Yang, Tellah, and Cid take to the skies on the airship, but are stopped by
Kain on a Red Wings airship. Kain tells Cecil that Rosa is in Golbez's power, and
proposes a trade - Rosa for the Earth Crystal which resides in Troia. Cecil has no
choice but to ask the Clerics of Troia, a female-led city, for the Crystal.
• They travel via airship to Troia, but discover that the Crystal has been stolen by
the Dark Elf who lives in the Magnetic Cavern. They also discover Gilbert,
wounded. Gilbert gives them an Echo Harp to allow his music to reach them even
in far away places. They harness a flying Black Chocobo to reach the Magnetic
Cavern, where the strong magnetic field prevents them from equipping metal
armor or weapons. Upon reaching the Elf, he immobilizes the party. However,
Gilbert's echoing music destroys the barrier and allows them to re-equip their
metal weapons and dispatch the Elf. They take the Crystal.
• Kain arrives and brings them to the Tower of Zot. When they finally reach the
room where Rosa is held, they are met by Kain and Golbez. Tellah, incensed, uses
the ultimate magic Meteo on Golbez, but the stress kills Tellah. Golbez is left
largely unharmed, but his control of Kain is broken and Kain joins Cecil and
Rosa. Before they can leave, though, they are attacked by Valvalis, the Wind
Emperor. After defeating her, they head back to Baron.
• Kain gives Cecil a Magma Stone, which opens the way to the underworld in the
town of Agart. Using the airship, they descend the deep hole to reach a dark new
world. However, the airship is caught in a battle from the Red Wings. The
Enterprise can't travel over the large lava pools underground, so lacking anything
else to do they travel to the Dwarf Castle to speak with the king, Giott. Giott tells
them that there are four more Crystals underground which Golbez seeks. One is
held in the castle.
• Before Cecil and party can take the Crystal, Giott's daughter Luca notices that her
dolls have gone berserk inside the Crystal Room; they are being controlled by
Golbez. They defeat the dolls, but Golbez's arm appears and steals the Crystal.
Golbez himself then shows up to fight Cecil, and summons a dragon. However,
the dragon is destroyed by a black magic spell cast by Rydia, who has returned in
adult form from the land of the Phantom Beasts. They drive off Golbez. Cid
decides to stay behind to help upgrade the airship with mithril found nearby.
• Cecil, Rosa, Rydia, Yang, and Kain attempt a raid on the Tower of Babel,
Rubicant's stronghold which stretches from the bottom of the underworld to the
overworld. All of Golbez's Crystals are held there. The Dwarves attack the
outside of the Tower using tanks while they sneak in. They find Lugae, Rubicant's
mad scientist, and defeat him to receive a key to the tower's weapons controls.
Yang destroys the controls but locks himself inside to make sure they are not used
to attack the dwarves outside. Cecil and party almost manage to escape, but are
trapped by Golbez. Cid rescues them in the Enterprise, though, and deposits them
in the overworld. He throws a bomb, causing an avalanche and closing the hole to
the underworld, trapping himself there.
• Cid's assistants attach a hook to the Enterprise to allow them to take hold of the
Hovercraft. They attempt another go at the Tower of Babel through Eblan Cave.
There, they see Edge, the ninja prince of Eblan, fighting with Rubicant. He loses,
but joins Cecil in attempting the seige. They unexpectedly come upon Edge's
parents, though, having been mutated by Lugae. After reluctantly defeating them,
Rubicant appears and expresses his apologies for his servant's misbehavior. He
heals Cecil before fighting him, and loses.
• Cecil reaches the Crystal Room but is trapped; a hole opens beneath him and his
entire party falls through. They uncover an enemy airship and escape on it. Upon
returning to the Dwarf Castle, King Giott informs them that the final Crystal is
held in the Sealed Cave northwest of the castle. The enemy airship, which can
travel over the lava that the Enteprise couldn't, reaches the cave easily. However,
right after acquiring it Golbez takes over Kain's mind once more and Kain betrays
them yet again, taking the Crystal to his master. With all the Crystals, Golbez's
destination is back at the Lunarians' base in the Moon.
• Returning to the Dwarf Castle, Cid is up and about and has affixed a drill nose to
the enemy airship, allowing Cecil to drill up to the overworld again. Cecil speaks
to the elder of Mysidia, who prays in the Mysidian Tower. Their prayers awaken
the Magical Ship, a vessel which can go straight to the moon.
• Cecil meets FuSoYa, who introduces himself and explains everything that
happened in the past regarding himself, KluYa, and Zemus. He also tells them of
Golbez's plan to activate the ancient Babel Giant, a havoc-wreaking device, to
hasten Zemus's plans of destroying Earth. They quickly return to Earth to attempt
to fight it.
• They enter the Giant and fight to its control center, but run up against the Four
Emperors again. A fierce battle ensues, with Cecil as the winner. Kain arrives
with Golbez, but FuSoYa succeeds in breaking Zemus's spell once and for all.
Golbez and Kain both regain their consciousnesses. FuSoYa and Golbez go off
together to attempt to defeat Zemus, but Cecil is determined to follow them.
• Cecil, Kain, Rydia, Rosa, and Edge speak to the eight Crystals of the Moon, who
transport them to the Moon's Core, where Zemus sleeps. They find FuSoYa and
Golbez attacking Zemus with Meteo. They succeed in destroying him, but
Zemus's alterego of hate, Zeromus, arises from his body. Golbez attempts to use a
Crystal to seal Zeromus, but fails because of his alignment with Darkness. He
entrusts the Crystal to Cecil. The souls of everyone who helped Cecil from the
beginning help him and his party to regain consciousness. Cecil uses the Crystal
to reveal Zeromus's true form (rather ugly) and succeeds in defeating it.
• FuSoYa leaves to go back to eternal sleep, but before he can, Golbez asks to go
with him. Cecil finally forgives his brother for his sins and tells him to rest in
peace. The party returns to Earth. Cecil and Rosa are crowned King and Queen of
Baron, and Edge is crowned King of Eblan. Happy ending.

Side Quests:

• Cecil can visit the ruins of Eblan Castle and Mist Town for extra treasure.
• A secret room in the Dwarf Castle leads to a place where all the programmers
hang out.
• A cave in the underworld leads to the Land of Phantom Beasts. If Rydia and her
friends fight Queen Ashura and King Leviathan here, she gains their summons.
They can also find a Rat Tail here; if they give it to the midget in the island mine
near Mithril Town, it will give them Adamant Ore. Giving that to the dwarf smith
Kokkol in the underworld will yield the mighty Excalibur sword!
• A cave in the underworld leads to the land of the Sylphs. Here the party finds
Yang, recovering from his wounds in the Tower of Babel, cared for by the Sylphs.
They then return to speak to Yang's wife. When they do this, she gives them a
Frying Pan to wake Yang up. When they do this, the Sylphs urge Yang to stay. He
does, and the Sylphs allow Rydia to summon them. When Cecil returns to Yang's
wife and shows her the Frying Pan, she gives him the Cleaver, the strongest
throwing dart in the game.
• In the basement of Baron, in the old throne room, sleeps the spirit of the true king
of Baron. Defeating it will allow Rydia to summon Odin.
• On the moon is a cave called Hummingway Home, which is full of Namingways,
the odd little man in yellow who renames your characters when you talk to him.
You can buy special Fat Chocobo Whistles here.
• In a cave on the moon dwells Bahamut, the Phantom Beast God. Defeating him
also allows you to summon him.
• In a room in the Moon's Core, there's a very rare chance of meeting dancing Pink
Puffs, who have a very rare chance of dropping a Pink Tail. Taking it to the
midget in the Adamant mine results in more Adamant being given you, and taking
that to Kokkol results in the forging of the Adamant Armor, strongest in the game.

FF5
1000 Years Ago:

• Enuo, an ancient evil, creates a "Void" which threatens destruction of the world.
The people of the world succeed in defeating Enuo using twelve legendary
weapons, but cannot destroy the Void. In desperation, they call upon the power of
four Elemental Crystals, which they split in two. The split causes the world to
split into two distinct worlds as well, and the Void is trapped in the
Interdimensional Rift between the two worlds.
• The twelve legendary weapons are sealed in Castle Kuza in the Second World.
Information on how to retrieve them (should the need arise) is hidden in a Sealed
Tome, but the book itself is torn in two when the worlds are separated.

30 Years Ago:

• An evil tree awakes in the forest of Moore in the Second World and takes on the
form of a dark knight named Exdeath, who begins wreaking havoc on the world.
He travels to another world (the First World) and begins trying to destroy the four
Crystals there. Four Warriors of the Dawn (Galuf Halm Baldesion, Xezat Matias
Surgate, Kelger Vlondett, and Dorgann Klauser) defeat Exdeath and seal him in
the First World using the power of the Crystals.
Dorgann, overcome with regret over throwing their problem to another world,
stays with Exdeath in the new world. He settles down in the village of Rix,
marries a woman named Stella, and has a son named Bartz. He and Stella both die
of illness in the same year.
• On the First World, King Alexander Highwind Tycoon marries and has two
daughters, Lenna and Sarisa. However, Sarisa is taken by pirates and raised as one
of them, taking the name Faris. She befriends a water dragon named Syldra, who
helps tow her ship around when wind is low.
• Queen Tycoon becomes deathly ill. The only cure for her is the tongue of a
Dragon, an endangered species. Tycoon's daughter, Lenna, despite her love for
the Dragons, resolves to kill it to save her mother, but her father stops her, and his
wife passes away.

Present:

• Exdeath begins to stir. He begins to control creatures and people with his mind,
with the intent of freeing himself. His first attack is on the Wind Crystal, kept in
the Wind Shrine near Tycoon Castle.
• King Tycoon, sensing the weakening of the wind, boards a Dragon to travel to the
Wind Shrine. The Crystal shatters, knocking him out, and Exdeath takes control
of him.
• Bartz begins a journey with his pet Chocobo, Boko, to see the world, based on his
father's dying wish.
• Galuf, king of the Castle of Bal, discovers Exdeath's intentions and boards a
meteor to the First World. However, the impact causes him to lose all memory.
• Cid Previa, creator of the Fire-Powered Ship which runs on the Fire Crystal's
power, observes the weakening of the Crystal. He begs the Queen of Karnak to
stop using the ship and otherwise using the Crystal's power. She refuses, but Cid
attempts to shut off the machine himself; she throws Cid in jail.
• Scholars from the Library of the Ancients west of Karnak (where Cid's grandson
Mid studies) begin visiting the Queen urging her to stop using the Crystal. She
builds a wall west of the town keeping them out.
• Mid descends to the depths of the basement of the Library of the Ancients to look
for a method of having the Fire-Powered Ship work on its own. He loses track of
time, oblivious of the nearby monsters.
• Lenna begins to search for her father and ends up near Galuf's meteor. She is
attacked by goblins, but saved by Bartz. They meet Galuf, who remembers
nothing but his desire to go to the Wind Shrine. He and Lenna go there together.
Bartz follows behind.
• Bartz rescues Lenna and Galuf from more goblins in a narrow pass; they decide to
continue to the Wind Shrine together.
• The fall of the meteor has blocked the way back to Tycoon Castle, but it has also
formed a new cave. The cave leads to the pirates' lair. They leave Boko at the
entrance (he is later injured, and is cared for by one of the pirates' men). Bartz and
co. decide to steal the pirate ship, but are caught by Faris before they can. Faris
puts the three in the brig, but a pendant worn by Lenna leaves her to wonder about
her own, identical pendant. She decides to join them and take them to the Wind
Shrine.
• They find the Wind Crystal shattered. An image of King Tycoon appears to them
and describes (vaguely) the situation involving Exdeath and the Crystals. They are
shown to be the four "legendary warriors" and vow to protect the other three
Crystals. The Water Crystal in Walse is next on their list.
• They travel to the city of Tule. The pirates stay in the bar here. Lenna takes the
party to a man named Zok, who has the key to the Torna Canal, which leads to
Walse. Zok is at first reluctant to give Lenna the key, but reconsiders when he
sees her determination to succeed. He gives the key to Bartz in the middle of the
night.
• Inside the Torna Canal, the ship is confronted by a giant sea monster. It creates a
whirlpool which sucks Syldra inside. Without any way of steering the ship, it
drifts until it reaches a place called the Ship Graveyard, where several wreckages
lie. When they find a safe place to rest and dry off, Bartz, Galuf, and Lenna
discover that Faris is actually a girl. Before they can leave the Ship Graveyard,
they are presented with mirages (Bartz with his mother, Lenna and Faris with
King Tycoon, and Galuf with his granddaughter Krile) which puts them in a
trance. However, Galuf doesn't remember Krile, breaks off the trance, frees his
friends, and defeats the Siren who caused the hypnosis.
• They come to the city of Carwen, where they decide that with their sea
transportation gone, they need air transportation. They travel to the North
Mountain, where a plant called Dragon Grass grows. It's a cure-all for Dragons,
and they figure it's possible that Hiryu, King Tycoon's Wind Drake might have
gone there.
• They find Hiryu at the North Mountain. Lenna risks her own life to get the
Dragon Grass, walking through poisonous plants to reach it, and in thanks Hiryu
heals Lenna and allows all four of them to ride him.
• Hiryu takes them to Walse Castle. Lenna implores the king to stop using the
Water Crystal to power the city, but the king refuses.
• A member of Galuf's army from the Castle of Bal arrives via meteor to protect the
Water Crystal from a woolly mammoth named Garula, who has recently fallen
under Exdeath's control. Another meteor arrives in Karnak bearing a werewolf
from Kelger's army to do the same for the Fire Crystal.
• The king of Walse goes to Walse Tower to investigate the meteor and the Water
Crystal, but is attacked and wounded by Garula. Galuf meets the warrior but does
not recognize him. They defeat Garula, but are not in time to save the Water
Crystal, which breaks, or the warrior, who dies.
• A soldier from Karnak wanders into the Karnak meteor and is warped to the
Walse meteor. Bartz and party get the hint and take the warp to Karnak.
• Bartz and party are seen coming out of the Karnak meteor and are believed to be
in league with the werewolf, Tzuze, seen on the premises. They are thrown in jail,
next to Cid. Cid finally manages to break out of his cell, but ends up back in
Bartz's cell! Fortunately, the Karnak Chancellor frees Cid because a crack has
been noticed in the Crystal. Cid demands Bartz's party's release as well; the
chancellor reluctantly agrees. Karnak Castle is on fire due to the Crystal's
overheating.
• Bartz and party rush to the Fire-Powered Ship. Bartz manages to cleanse it of
monsters, but finds Queen Karnak, controlled by Exdeath, in the ship as well. He
defeats the demon possessing her, but it moves on to a Karnak soldier, who jams
the switch on the Crystal, turning the power up to full and shattering it. Tzuze
appears and saves Bartz and party from the imminent destruction, but cannot
escape himself. Karnak Castle is destroyed by fire. Cid, overcome with
depression, adamantly refuses to engineer anything ever again.
• Bartz and party enter the Library of the Ancients and look for Mid in the
basement. They find him and he shows them the plans he found for restarting the
Fire-Powered Ship. Mid travels to Karnak to whack Cid out of his depression
(literally). Back on board the Fire-Powered Ship, which is quickly rehabilitated,
the scene with Cid and Mid reminds Galuf of a similar scene between him and his
granddaughter Krile, and he regains his memory. He explains the entire situation
to Bartz, Lenna, and Faris.
• Resolving to protect the Earth Crystal, Bartz and party visit Crescent Town, only
to have the Fire-Powered Ship sunk in a whirlpool! They find a flying Black
Chocobo in a nearby forest, though. Returning to the Library of the Ancients, Cid
and Mid tell them that King Tycoon has been sighted in Karnak, then went
southwest through the Desert of Shifting Sands. Bartz and co. follow him.
• The shifting sands of the desert confound Bartz, but Cid calls a sandworm and
Bartz walks over its body across the sand. They enter Gohn, the Town of Ruin, a
Ronkan relic. They run after the spectre of King Tycoon, but are trapped in a pit
and fall down into a strange mechanistic place, the Airship Base. They are carried
to just west of Crescent Island, where Cid and Mid have returned the Black
Chocobo to its home.
• A switch in the Airship Base ends up swallowing Cid and Mid, where they land
on an ancient airship! They meet up with Bartz and, using parts from the Fire
Ship, which also ended up here, patch up the airship so Bartz can use it. Before he
can go anywhere, though, a huge flying castle arises from Gohn. Cid tells Bartz
that the Earth Crystal must be inside. However, without a metal called
Adamantite, the airship can't fly that high.
• Galuf collects some Adamantite from the meteor he arrived in, and Cid enhances
the airship's capabilities. Bartz and party get past the defenses and enter the flying
Ronkan Ruins. They come across King Tycoon again, but he, under Exdeath's
control, ends up shattering the Crystal. He threatens to kill Bartz, but another
meteor suddenly arrives and Krile knocks out the king before he can do anything.
• King Tycoon comes to, but Exdeath arrives immediately after the Crystal shattes.
Exdeath disappears and returns to the Second World, but uses the Crystal shards
to attack everyone in the room. Tycoon manages to defeat the shards, but is fatally
wounded. Bartz and party barely manage to escape aboard the airship.
• Krile and Galuf use Krile's meteor (the last functioning one) to return to the
Second World. Bartz, Faris, and Lenna resolve to follow him to help defeat
Exdeath. They return to Cid and Mid (who are at the Tycoon meteor) to ask them
for their help in reaching the Second World. They discover that Adamantite can
power a meteor, but there isn't enough to power up one meteor completely.
Instead, Bartz and co. travel to all four meteors to power them up as much as they
can, and create a warp point at center of their four locations.
• Galuf and Krile waste no time in mounting an attack against Exdeath at the Big
Bridge near his castle in the Second World.
• Bartz and co. enter the warp and end up on a small island in the Second World,
but they are abducted by Exdeath and taken to prison. Exdeath shows Galuf an
image of the three and tells him they'll be killed if he doesn't step down. Galuf
agrees. Exdeath appoints his right-hand man Gilgamesh to watch over the
prisoners and leaves.
• Galuf uses Krile's pet Wind Drake to rescue Bartz and co. He is stopped by
Gilgamesh, who is a complete wimp, and who runs away after the battle.
• They reach the Big Bridge, which is under attack by Exdeath's forces. They again
are stopped by Gilgamesh, who is aided by his sidekick Enkidu, but he again runs
away. However, Exdeath activates a barrier around his castle, which flings Bartz,
Faris, Lenna, and Galuf far to the north, to the barren continent of Gloceana.
• They pass the town of Regole and Kuza Castle (the twelve ultimate weapons held
within are magically sealed) and enter a forest where they find a moogle. The
moogle falls through a pit into the Moogle Canal, which is infested with Moogle-
eating monsters! They rescue the Moogle and follow it to its home in the Moogle
Forest. The Moogles here communicate telepathically with Krile's pet Moogle,
and she quickly rushes to the Moogle Forest to rescue her grandfather and friends.
• Upon returning to the Castle of Bal, Bartz discovers that the Wind Drake that
saved him is now dying from its wounds. Again, Dragon Grass is needed, but it
only grows in Drakenvale, which lies past the village of Quelb, Kelger's werewolf
village.
• In Quelb, the north gate is locked, so they meet up with Kelger. Galuf tells Kelger
the other three are from the First World, and Kelger assumes they were the ones
who released Exdeath. He ends up challenging Bartz to a duel, which he promptly
loses. They also discover that he is Dorgann's son.
• Bartz and co. continue to Drakenvale, where they discover a monster plant, which
they surmise must have been the reason for the virtual extinction of the Wind
Drake. They retrieve the Dragon Grass and return to the Castle of Bal. The gate
guards don't believe that it's really Galuf, so they're forced to use the moat to
enter. Krile, who has fallen sick, tells Galuf to seek out the guidance of Sage
Ghido.
• They try to get the Wind Drake to eat the Dragon Grass, but it refuses. Lenna
shows it that it's not dangerous by taking a bite herself (despite the fact that it's
poisonous to humans). The Wind Drake eats the medicine, but Lenna requires her
own medicine after that stunt; the Wind Drake heals her again.
• They reach Ghido's island on the Wind Drake, but Exdeath sinks the island before
they can enter.
• Returning to Kelger, he tells you that Xezat Matias Surgate, king of Surgate
Castle, has assembled a fleet to attack one of Exdeath's barrier towers. The team
hurries to the fleet's location near Exdeath's Castle.
• Xezat's fleet is attacked by Exdeath's forces, led by Gilgamesh, but they are
defeated. Gilgamesh attempts to pull Bartz into the sea, but Bartz is saved by the
Wind Drake. Xezat and Bartz's party head into the Barrier Tower via submarine.
• Xezat heads to the power room while Bartz goes to the antenna on the roof. Xezat
gives them a Whisperweed (like a walkie-talkie) to allow them to converse. They
reach the antenna and defeat Atomos, the guardian of it. They destroy the antenna
and Xezat deactivates the power, but is trapped in the power room. The Shield
Generator is destroyed and Bartz and party manage to escape, but Xezat perishes
in the power room.
• Ghido's island has sunk into the sea, so Bartz uses Xezat's submarine to reach
him. Ghido tells them that Exdeath is searching for something in Moore Forest,
and gives them the Guardian Branch which allows them to enter it.
• Exdeath cannot enter the Moore Forest himself, but allows Bartz to open the way
using the Guardian Branch, and, being attacked by the Crystals' seals, to destroy
them. In gratitude, Exdeath sics the Crystals' power on Bartz and co. Krile arrives
but is unable to do anything. Galuf, however, shakes off the trap, shattering one of
the Crystals, and begins attacking Exdeath despite the huge energy being thrown
at him. He succeeds in driving Exdeath off, but is killed in the attempt. He lends
Krile his powers to fight with Bartz instead of him.
• Bartz and co. enter Exdeath's castle. They are confronted by Gilgamesh, who
transforms into an eight-armed demon and attacks with the Excalipoor sword, but
it's useless. They defeat him and Exdeath banishes him to the Interdimensional
Rift for incompetence. The party attacks Exdeath, but before they can kill him the
Crystals shatter and the two worlds merge back into one.
• Among other things, Cid is trapped in the Airship Base when the Fork Tower
appears above it.
• Exdeath transforms himself into several slivers of wood and hides in an antlion's
cave.
• Bartz and group end up near Tycoon Castle. They enter, and the two princesses
are warmly received. Bartz and Krile decide to head off alone to defeat Exdeath,
and leave the castle. They decide to head to the Pirate Cave (a new bridge has
been completed leading there) and see if Boko is still around. They find Boko and
a female Chocobo named Koko, whom Boko's apparently married. Boko leaves
Koko for the moment and travels with Bartz and Krile.
• Boko, Bartz, and Krile fall into the antlion's cave on the way north, but are
rescued (after some toying) by Faris, who rejoins them. Exdeath makes Krile
"prick herself" on the slivers of wood containing himself, and thus is carried along
with them.
• Bartz and co. find Ghido in a cave, who fills them in on the details of the merging
of the worlds. However, Exdeath emerges and declares his interest in capturing
the power of the Void for himself. As a demonstration, he pulls Tycoon Castle
into the Interdimensional Rift, and throws Bartz, Krile, Faris, Boko, and Ghido far
away to a spot near the Library of the Ancients.
• The Sealed Tome has been re-constituted as a whole in the Library of Ancients,
and it gives hints to four places to travel to; each place holds a tablet which is the
key to three of the legendary weapons. Bartz takes it and travels to the nearby
Great Pyramid in the desert.
• They retrieve the tablet, and having done so are visited by the king of dragons,
Bahamut, who tells them he will wait in the North Mountain.
• Passing through the remains of the Forest of Moore on the way back to the
Library of the Ancients, they are visited by Hiryu, who drops an unconscious
Lenna at their feet. However, Lenna is possessed by a monster from the
Interdimensional Rift, and attacks Bartz. Hiryu sacrifices itself to save Lenna,
though, and the monster is driven from her body and destroyed by Bartz and co.
Lenna re-joins, but can't stop Exdeath from pulling the Library of the Ancients,
Walse, Istory, the Moogle Village, and Rix into the Void.
• Bartz and co. find their airship again and use it to reach the next tablet location,
the Island Shrine, and the Fork Tower, which has appeared above the Airship
Base and contains the two ultimate white and black magics. After finding the
magics, Fork Tower disappears and Cid is freed. Cid has found a book describing
how to transform an airship into a submarine, and effects the upgrade
immediately.
• The submarine takes them to the Great Sea Trench, an underwater cave which
contains the third tablet and the Meteor spell.
• The fourth tablet and the Leviathan Summon spell are located in Istory Falls.
• Bartz and co. enter the Interdimensional Rift, where they come across Gilgamesh
once again. They defeat him and earn his praise and friendship. In another, later
battle, Gilgamesh comes to their aid by sacrificing himself to kill the enemy.
• They encounter Exdeath, who transforms into a giant tree. Before they can
destroy him, Exdeath is consumed by the Void, transforming into Neo Exdeath,
an embodiment of the Void, whose only desire is to reduce everything to
nothingness. They manage to defeat him, the towns and castles swallowed by the
Void are returned to their former places, and everyone is happy.

Side Quests:

• Shiva lives in the basement of Walse Castle and will allow you to summon her if
you defeat her. Same goes for Ifrit in the Library of the Ancients, Ramuh in the
forest around Istory, Shoat in a forested area in the Second World, Odin in the the
Castle of Bal basement, and Bahamut in the North Mountain.
• There's a Magic Lamp in Istory Falls which allows you to cast free Summons in
battle, with weakining intensity unless you recharge it back at the falls.
• Syldra's spirit returns to the Pirates' Cave and will allow you to summon her.
• The Phantom Village is hidden in the forest near Crescent Town. Besides for
excellent shops, a Black Chocobo resides here.
• Walse Tower is submerged in water, and a single Crystal shard lies here, guarded
by Gogo, the Mimic, who challenges you to a battle. Gogo does nothing in battle,
so mimicing him by doing nothing will get you the shard, which teaches the
Mimic class.
• Phoenix Tower is located in the middle of a huge desert. At the top you will meet
Hiryu, who sacrifices himself to Lenna by diving off the tower and transforming
into the Phoenix, who allows you to summon him later.
• In the Town of Moore is a hidden old man who offers you the choice between the
Chicken Knife (gains power the more fights you run away from) or the Brave
Blade (loses power when you run away).
• In a cave underwater dwells a mysterious old man, Mr. Clio, who'll report on your
battle statistics and treasure chest count.
• Two insanely difficult enemies, Shinryu and Omega, are in the Interdimensional
Rift; they're quite a bit harder than the final boss!

Side Quests (GBA Version Only)

• After getting all twelve Legendary Weapons, a scholar will come up and tell you
than an earthquake was heard to the south. Going underwater there reveals a white
rift. Going inside nets you three more job shards - Cannoneer, Gladiator, and
Oracle.
• After beating the game, returning to the same place opens the way to the secret
dungeon, the Sealed Temple. This enormous area consists of a very high
encounter rate, extremely difficult enemies, and a slough of treasure. Among
other things, you can fight versions of Omega and Shinryu which make the
originals look like jokes (there's a room with no less than five Omegas in it!). At
the very end you'll come up against the one and only Enuo, the ancient creator of
the Void. Beating him nets you the Necromancer job.
• After getting Necromancer, you will have access to the Cloister of the Dead. This
consists of six rooms, each of which require you to fight five boss battles one after
another. Beating it gets you a shiny Medal of Smiting.
FF6

1000 Years Ago:

• Three godesses or Magi (Doom, Poltergeist, and The Goddess) wage a magical
war on each other. Chaos ensues. Any unlucky humans caught in the midst of the
huge magical energy are transformed into Espers, magical beasts. Eventually
realizing the horror of their actions, the Goddesses seal themselves up in stone
statues, taking with them all the magical power they used. The statues are placed
inside Crescent Island.
• Eventually it is discovered that the Espers have their own magical power which
could be drained from them. Fearing persecution and annihilation at the hands of
humans, the Espers create their own dimension and seal the gate.

30 (or so) Years Ago to Present:

• Madonna Branford, a human girl, loses her way and falls into the Espers' world,
where she is taken in by an Esper named Maduin. They fall in love and eventually
a baby is born, whom they name Terra.
• Gestahl, leader of the Empire, discovers the location of the Espers' gate and
breaks through, capturing all the Espers he finds. The elder of the Espers manages
to re-seal the gate and banish the humans, but Madonna and Terra also fall
through. Madonna naively asks Gestahl to care for Terra; Gestahl takes the baby
and leaves Madonna to die.
• Experiments on the Espers by Cid, the resident Empire scientist, leads to the
creation of MagiTek, a combination of magic and science. One experiment
involving Magitek is tested on Kefka, one of Gestahl's generals. The experiment
is successful and Kefka is given magical powers, but his brain is warped by the
energy and he becomes a madman. Further experimentation yields a more stable
magical infusion (though not as powerful) which is used to create Magitek
Knights, humans infused with Esper magic. One of these generals is Celes Chere,
who was more or less raised by Cid.
• Terra, whose powers eclipse even Kefka's, is brainwashed and used to carry out
military conquests.
• The king of Figaro dies and is succeeded by his son Edgar. Edgar's twin brother
Sabin, convinced that the king was poisoned by the Empire, expresses his desire
to leave and study martial arts under the teachings of Duncan, a master of
fighting. Edgar agrees to a coin toss, which if Sabin wins he would get his wish.
Unbeknownst to Sabin, though, Edgar uses a two-headed coin, however, to be
assured of Sabin's winning the toss. Sabin trains under Duncan along with Vargas,
Duncan's son. Duncan later disappears and is believed to have died.
• Two highway bandits named Baram and Clyde are captured after a huge train
heist. Baram is left heavily injured (despite his pleading to Clyde to kill him), but
Clyde finds his way to Thamasa, where he falls in love with a local woman.
Overcome with remorse, Clyde eventually loses all emotion and becomes a
wandering mercenary, calling himself Shadow. His wife later gives birth to a
daughter she calls Relm.
• A thief/treasure hunter named Locke falls in love with Rachel, a girl from
Kohlingen. However, while taking her to see a nearby treasure cave, a cave-in is
started and Rachel saves Locke only to put herself in danger. An old man nearby,
knowing the secrets of certain herbs, keeps Rachel in suspended animation. Locke
vows to search the world to find a way to bring Rachel back.
• A debutante gambler named Setzer has an airship race with his close friend,
Daryl. However, Daryl's airship, the Falcon, malfunctions and crashes. Setzer
restores the Falcon, then buries it and Daryl both in a grave near Kohlingen.
• A man whose wife gives birth to a deformed baby throws it out into the wild
Veldt. He later loses his mind and believes that it was all a dream, however.
• A band of dissidents known as the Returners begin operating near Mt. Kolts, led
by a man named Banon. Their goal is to overthrow the Empire by any means
possible.

Present:

• The brainwashed Terra and two Imperial Soldiers, Biggs and Wedge, are sent to
Narshe after rumors that an Esper was found in the Narshe mines. They decimate
the guards and reach the Esper, who has a reaction to Terra. Biggs and Wedge are
destroyed by the Esper's power. Terra is later found unconscious by Arvis, a
Returner living in Narshe, who helps her escape. She is later helped as well by
Locke, a treasure hunter/thief also working for the Returners, and a gang of
Moogles living in the Narshe caves.
• Locke and Terra make their way to Figaro Castle, where she is introduced to King
Edgar. Edgar and Locke decide to take her to Banon in the Returner HQ. Before
they can leave, though, they are visited by Kefka, sent by Gestahl to retrieve
Terra. Kefka first tries diplomacy, then attacks the castle. However, through
advanced technology the entire castle sinks under the sands, and Edgar, Locke,
and Terra escape by riding Chocobos. They are attacked by Magitek Armor, but
Terra wards them off using magic. Having never seen magic before, Edgar and
Locke are more convinced than ever that Terra can help them.
• They pass through the Figaro Cave to South Figaro, where they catch a glimpse of
Shadow. A nearby cabin seems to have many things that remind Edgar of Sabin.
They enter Mount Kolts, but are accosted by Vargas, Duncan's son. Sabin shows
up to defend his brother. Vargas attacks Sabin, accusing him of stealing his
father's favor, which Sabin denies. Vargas is defeated, and Sabin is convinced to
continue with Edgar, Locke, and Terra to the Returner HQ.
• An already rich man in Figaro, tempted by even more money, betrays South
Figaro to the Empire, who seize it.
• Banon convinces Terra to join the Returners, but before any concrete plans can be
made, news arrives that South Figaro has been taken by the Empire. Locke is sent
to South Figaro to gather intelligence, and Edgar, Sabin, Terra, and Banon take a
raft on the Lethe River towards Narshe.
• They are attacked by a strange octopus named Ultros; Sabin, enraged, jumps into
the water after him, but is sucked away by the current, leaving the other three on
the raft.
• Terra, Edgar, and Banon make their way through the Narshe caves to Arvis's
house.
• Locke steals the uniform of a soldier and finds his way into a secret passage in
Figaro. He finds General Celes there, in chains, being tortured; she has apparently
rebelled against Gestahl. Locke rescues her and they travel to Narshe through
Figaro Cave.
• Sabin lands near a cabin in the middle of nowhere, where he meets Shadow, who
joins him for the time being (apparently having nothing else to do). They come
across an Imperial Base where they overhear the plans being dealt out by General
Leo, an honorable Empire soldier, and Kefka, regarding the seige of Doma Castle.
General Leo is called back to Vector (capital of the Empire), leaving Kefka in
charge. Kefka poisons the water of Doma, killing everyone in it, even his own
men.
• Cyan, faithful retainer to the king of Doma, after repelling Leo's forces, is
incensed by the deaths of his king, his wife, and his son. He madly attacks the
Imperial Base, and is helped by Sabin and Cyan. They steal sets of Magitek
Armor and make their escape. They end up in the Phantom Forest, which leads to
the Phantom Train.
• Sabin jumps onto the train despite the warnings of Cyan, who claims that the train
takes the deceased to "the other side". They try to find their way off the train,
coming across a swordsman claiming to be Siegfried, but actually being a
complete wuss. They manage to damage the engine of the train enough for it to
leave them off near Baren Falls, but not before Cyan sees his wife and child board
the train destined for "the other side".
• Shadow leaves Sabin at Baren Falls. Sabin and Cyan make it down the falls, and
land in the Veldt, a wild area filled with beasts of all kinds. They catch a glimpse
of a wild boy as they awaken. In a nearby town called Mobliz, they buy meat and
entice the boy, named Gau, to help them to Narshe. Gau tells them of a shiny
treasure in Crescent Mountain, which ends up being a diving helmet. They use it
to swim through the Serpent Trench, an underwater passage which leads to
Nikeah. From there it's a short boat ride to Narshe.
• The elder of Narshe finally agrees to help Banon, but only after hearing that
Kefka has amassed forces aiming towards recapturing the Esper, which has been
moved into the snowy mountain behind Narshe. Finding General Celes and Terra
is an added bonus. However, Kefka's troops are defeated by the Returners and
Kefka manages to escape.
• Terra meets the Esper for a second time, this time fully in her senses, and the
encounter transforms her into a flying pink creature; she soars away as everyone
else watches.
• The Returners decide to search for Terra. First they head for Figaro Castle, which
submerges and takes them under the sand to the city of Kohlingen. They continue
south to the bandit city of Zozo. At the top of Zozo's tallest building they meet an
Esper named Ramuh, who watches over Terra's Esper form. He tells them that she
will be fine in time, and that there is nothing they can do - except to save others of
his kind, held in the Magitek Research Facility in Vector. Ramuh shows them
three shards of Magicite, the form Espers turn into when they are deceased, and
tells them that the true power of Espers is only available through this form. He
then turns himself into Magicite to help them.
• They resolve to go there, but lack transportation. They hear of Setzer's love for
Maria, an opera diva, in Jidoor, and resolve to make their way onto his airship and
convince him to help them. Discovering that Celes is a dead ringer for Maria, they
substitute Celes for Maria in a performance of the opera. The opera is sabotaged
by Ultros, but Locke manages to stage a terrific battle and end up with a winning
performance: a happy audience, a defeated Ultros, and Maria (aka Celes)
abducted by Setzer.
• Celes lets the other Returners on board after the performance. Setzer agrees to a
coin toss; heads Celes becomes his wife, tails he helps them reach Vector. Edgar
uses a two-headed coin to assure of Setzer's joining them.
• Setzer takes them to the continent of Vector. They find a Returner sympathizer in
Vector who stages a violent sickness to allow them to reach the Magitek Research
Facility. There, they discover Kefka draining two Espers (Ifrit and Shiva) of their
magic powers. Ifrit and Shiva first fight back, but when they see Ramuh's
Magicite they also agree to help the Returners and turn themselves into Magicite.
• Celes and the Returners discover six Espers (including Terra's father, Maduin)
being worked on in the lab. They, too, turn themselves into Magicite. Cid enters
and discovers this fact, but before he can decide what to do with it he is
confronted by Kefka. Kefka claims Celes was working for him all along; Celes
denies it, but Locke doesn't know what to believe. Celes causes both herself and
Kefka to disappear from the room.
• Cid helps the Returners to escape via a mine cart, after pledging his decision to
make the Emperor stop his silly war. They are saved by Setzer's Blackjack
airship, but attacked once more by Kefka's mechanical cranes. They shake them
off and head back to Zozo.
• Terra awakes at the sight of her father, and tells the Returners of her origins. Back
in Narshe, Banon and the elder of Narshe decide to send Terra to the sealed gate
to the Esper world to ask the Espers for help in defeating the Empire. They do so,
but the move is anticipated by Gestahl. Gestahl empties the nearby Imperial Base
of soldiers to allow them easy passage.
• While in Narshe, the Returners encounter a Moogle named Mog held by a thief
named Lone Wolf. They save him, and he joins them.
• When they reach the gate, Terra turns into an Esper and opens the passage, but is
surprised by Kefka. A gang of Espers escapes and go on a rampage, trashing both
the Blackjack airship and the city of Vector. They then regroup in a mountain
cave near the city of Thamasa.
• The Returners go back to Vector to find it in flames. Emperor Gestahl has
apparently had a change of heart and invites the Returners in. He pleads with
them to travel to Thamasa, find the Espers, and ask for their apologies. He also
tells them that Kefka has been placed in jail for crimes against humanity, due to
his conduct with the Doma case.
• General Leo takes Locke and Terra to Albrook, a port town, where they are met
by Celes and Shadow, who have been employed by the Empire to help them.
Celes refuses to speak to Locke, though.
• They split up; Leo and Celes go alone, and Terra, Locke, and Shadow arrive in
Thamasa, a village of descendants from the Mage Warriors of old. The village
tries to cover up their use of magic for fear of persecution. They ask a sage named
Strago for any information about the Espers, but he has conveniently forgotten
everything about them. His daughter, Relm, shows a liking for Shadow's rabid
dog, Interceptor.
• A house Relm visits is set on fire, compounded by the Fire Rods kept within.
Locke, Terra, and Shadow rescue her, and Strago finally agrees to help them.
They travel to the Espers' gathering place near Thamasa, where they see three
statues dedicated to the three Magi and with an inscription saying what took
place. They are surprised by Ultros, who attacks them. Relm arrives (despite
Strago's commands) and saves them by painting a portrait of Ultros, which comes
alive and attacks him.
• They find the Espers, who appear hostile. Terra introduces herself to their leader,
Yura, and they agree to speak to Leo. They are themselves overcome with
remorse over their actions. Everything appears to be going fine until Kefka shows
up with Magitek Armor soldiers. He captures all the Espers and changes them into
Magicite, then torches the village. Leo tries to stop him, but is tricked when Kefka
puts on an illusion of Emperor Gestahl, and Kefka slays him.
• Kefka and Gestahl break the seal on Crescent Mountain, where they find the stone
statues containing the Magi. The power of seal causes the entire island to rise into
the air.
• The Returners take the Blackjack to the Floating Continent, but are attacked by
the Imperial Air Force, as well as Ultros and his friend Chupon, first. After
beating them off, they land on the Continent, where they find Shadow. They then
come across a huge magical beast named Atma, guarding the statues; then they
discover Kefka, Gestahl, and the three Magi.
• Celes also shows up, having followed behind. Kefka tells her all will be forgiven
if she kills her friends; she refuses, stabbing Kefka. Kefka recovers, though, and
demands that the Magi lend him their power. Gestahl tries to stop him by using
magical spells, but the spells are muted by the statues' field. The statues shoot
bolts down, one of which strikes Gestahl dead; Kefka throws the body off the
island. He then changes the arrangement of the statues, throwing the entire world
into chaos. The Returners barely manage to escape with their lives. The airship
breaks up as it takes them away, and the entire world changes shape...
• Debris from all over the world gathers near the center and forms a giant tower.
Kefka makes his domain at the top of it, shooting Light of Judgment bolts down
from it wherever and whenever he likes, destroying whatever he wishes.
• Figaro Castle is attacked by a tentacled beast and forced under the sands with no
way of returning to the surface.
• Terra lands near Mobliz; the adults in Mobliz have all perished protecting the
children. She becomes a surrogate mother for the children, and realize she has lost
her will to fight. Mobliz is periodically attacked by a demon named Phunbaba,
whom Terra just barely manages to stave off whenever he arrives.
• Edgar, trying to make his way back to Figaro Castle, changes his name to Gerad
and enlists a gang of bandits, convincing them he wants to steal the treasure
inside.
• Sabin lands near the city of Tzen, near Albrook. Setzer ends up in Kohlingen,
drowning his woes in drink. Gau returns to the Veldt. Mog returns to the caves of
Narshe, where he finds that all the other Moogles have perished.
• Locke continues searching the world for a cure for Rachel, and hears of the
Phoenix, a magical creature locked in the Phoenix Caves. He travels there to
search for it.
• Cyan takes up his domicile in Mount Zozo. Intercepting a carrier pigeon with a
letter, he reads it to discover that the soldier (whom he knows has died in Mobliz)
is receiving letters from his love, Lola, in Maranda. Cyan pretends to be the
soldier and sends flowers and letters to Lola in his stead.
• Shadow continues his travels, but is trapped by a Behemoth in a cave near the
Veldt and lies unconscious.
• Relm becomes a famous painter, and is employed by Owzer, a rich man in Jidoor.
However, her painting of a starlet is possessed by a demon, and Owzer's entire art
gallery of a house is taken over by monsters.
• Strago is hypnotized by the newly formed Cult of Kefka, who have their base in
the Fanatics' Tower. He is forced to stay there with them.
• Celes lands on a small, practically deserted island, where she is discovered by
Cid. An entire year passes before she awakes. She cares for Cid, feeding him fish.
When he finally recovers he shows her a raft he made, telling her to reach the
mainland with it. She agrees.
• If Cid does not recover, she throws herself off a nearby cliff in a fit of depression.
She survives, however, and finds a seagull nearby with Locke's bandanna tied on
it. This gives her the strength to continue, and she finds a letter from Cid telling
her where the raft is hidden.
• She lands in Albrook, and heads towards Tzen. A bolt from Kefka's Light of
Judgment suddenly strikes the town, and a large house in the middle of town
almost collapses with a child inside it. She discovers Sabin holding up the house,
rushes inside, saves the child, and makes it out before Sabin collapses.
• Sabin and Celes head to Mobliz, where they find Terra caring for the children.
Phunbaba chooses that moment to attack, but ends up knocking out everyone.
Terra tells them she can't help them.
• They travel to Nikeah, where they meet Edgar/Gerad, who professes that he has
no idea who they are, trying to keep his cover. They follow him through Figaro
Cave (where they come across the fake Siegfried again); a side path leads to the
basement of Figaro Castle. Edgar, Celes, and Sabin defeat the monster holding the
castle hostage, and Figaro castle rises up again and takes them to Kohlingen.
• They find Setzer in Kohlingen and convince him to help them again. He takes
them to Daryl's Tomb, where they find Daryl's airship, the Falcon. As soon as
they are airborne, they discover one of Cyan's pigeons traveling to Maranda. They
trace it to Mount Zozo.
• They find Cyan in Mount Zozo and convince him to join them. He tells them that
he has sighted Gau in the Veldt. They collect Gau as well, and enter a nearby cave
to find Shadow unconscious; they also find a powerful blade called the Striker.
They take him to Thamasa, but before they can ask him to help them he has
already left.
• Shadow continues his mercenary travels, this time searching for the enigmatic
Striker blade, and hanging around the newly built Coliseum in case anyone came
in with it.
• They travel to Jidoor to rescue Owzer and Relm from the hands of the demon
possessing Relm's painting. Relm goes with them to the Fanatics' Tower to rescue
Strago.
• They return to Mobliz, where the party is finally strong enough to defeat
Phunbaba. Seeing their valor, Terra regains her will to fight and goes with them.
• They travel to the Coliseum up north, where they discover the real Siegfried, and
Ultros one more time, who now has a job as a receptionist. They bet the Striker in
battle and Shadow shows up to claim it, deciding to join them when he loses.
• They enter the Phoenix Caves, where they find Locke and a piece of Magicite. He
takes the Magicite to Rachel in Kohlingen; it succeeds in reviving her for a few
precious minutes, but that is all. Phoenix allows Locke to use its power.
• After training, the party is finally strong enough to enter Kefka's Tower from the
air and challenge him. They defeat the three Magi and Kefka himself. The Tower
then collapses; Shadow, deploring his life, chooses to stay with it. Magic
disappears from the world after the deaths of the Magi, and Terra becomes a
normal human being at last.

Side Quests:

• Sabin finds Duncan still alive, training near Narshe. Duncan teaches him his most
powerful technique, the Bum Rush.
• The Esper in Narshe, Tritoch, lends them his power after they defeat him; the way
is then opened to a new cave below Narshe. They find a huge Yeti named Umaro
there, guarding the Terrato Magicite. Mog forces Umaro to join them.
• A triangular island is home to a huge monster called the Zone Eater, who
swallows the party. Traveling inside it, they come across a mimic named Gogo,
who joins them as well.
• They discover Gau's father, a crazy old man, near the Veldt. They dress Gau up,
teach him manners, and take him to his father, who nevertheless refuses to
recognize him. Gau is still happy that his father is alive.
• Cyan takes a rest in Doma Castle, and is attacked by three dream demons, who
possess him. The party rescues him from Wrexsoul, a monster who steals people's
souls by feeding on their sadness. They purge the demon and release Cyan's pent-
up energy.
• A flying monster named Doom Gaze holds the Bahamut Magicite.
• Eight dragons hold the seal to the Crusader Magicite. One of them, the Dirt
Dragon, is holding up the performances at the Opera House.
• An old man in Narshe has discovered the Ragnarok Magicite, which he offers to
make into a sword or leave as a stone.
• An ancient castle lies beneath the Figaro Desert, and is reached when the castle
bumps into it in its trips below the sand. They find the remains of Odin, an Esper
king. Taking it into a secret passage downstairs, tears from the statue of Odin's
wife transforms the Magicite into Raiden.
• Strago and Relm find Gungho, an old friend, recovering from injuries in
Thamasa. He tells Strago that Hidon, a monster they both fought as a youth, has
been sighted in Ebot's Rock nearby. Strago and the party travel there and defeat
Hidon.
FF7

Since FF7's storyline has become more complicated from the presence of extra games
and sources, we've found the need to alter the format of the timeline a bit. Now, events
take place on a timeline that is either Before Game (B.G.) or After Game (A.G.) which is
technically any point in time after the game starts. So when Cloud jumps out of the train
in FF7, that's when 0 B.G. ends and 0 A.G. starts. Anything labeled as "SIDE QUEST" is
an optional part of the game which may or may not happen, but has no bearing on
anything that is not a side quest.

Sources have also been cited in brackets at the end of each entry, so you know where the
info comes from and where it was created. Here are their abbreviations.

Many Years Ago:

• The Cetra, a nomadic magical race which may or may not have originated on the
Planet, settle after a long and arduous journey. Some Cetra (later known as
Ancients) choose to continue their journey, whilst others settle down and
eventually become humans. A few true Cetra still survive, however. [FF7]
• The Cetra create a tablet describing the existence of Chaos and Omega and their
purpose. This tablet will be discovered by Dr. Grimoire Valentine and Dr.
Lucrecia Crescent, providing the spark for their experiments. [DoC]
2000 Years B.G.:

• JENOVA, a malevolent creature, crash-lands on the planet and causes a huge rift,
the Northern Crater. JENOVA infects the Cetra with a virus, turning them into
monsters. Most of the remaining Cetra are slaughtered as the humans hide out in
their new settlements, avoiding the terror. The Planet creates five Weapons to
battle JENOVA, but they are never used. A small number of surviving Cetra
succeed in containing her in the Northern Crater. The Planet begins to heal itself
using its life energy. (It never fully heals.) [FF7]

Between 1999 - 41 B.G.:

• The Shinra Electric Company emerges as the leading energy provider in the
world. They use Mako energy, which is drawn from the bowels of the earth.
Mako is also known as Lifestream, a spirit force which is shared by the planet and
everyone living on it. Condensed Mako, known as Materia, draws a high market
for its magical properties. Eventually Shinra diversifies into military, political,
urban development, scientific, astronomical, and communications departments
and becomes known as the 'Shinra Corporation', or simply 'Shinra'. [FF7]
• The existence of Shinra gives way to Midgar, the city constructed around the
central power plant. Eight Mako Reactors are placed at the edge of the circular
city to provide power to the two levels: the upper plate consists of the well-to-do
society, and under the plate, where the slums are.
• Knowing the Mako can't last forever, Shinra begins conducting a search for the
rumored 'Promised Land', a land of supreme happiness and abundant Mako. Only
the Ancients know of its location, and Shinra intends to build 'Neo-Midgar' there.
[Conjecture: in DoC, Dr. Valentine mentions the ancient tablet may contain info
regarding 'Promised Land', so we can assume they are already looking for it at
this point.]
• The Turks are formed as an internal and hush-hush departement in Shinra; they
carry out less desirable missions like kidnapping and assassinations. [FF7]

55 B.G.:

• Vincent Valentine is born. [FF7 - Remember that Hojo's experiments on Vincent

allow him to live much longer (theoretically forever). He was killed when he was
27 and stays that age perpetually.]

c. 40 B.G. :

• The peaceful tribe living in Cosmo Canyon is attacked by the violent Gi tribe.
Seto, a wolf-like creature, protects the Canyon by going through a secret passage,
and succeeds in holding off the Gi tribe, but is pierced by their petrifying arrows
and turns to stone in the end. The tribe, including Seto's son, Nanaki, believes
Seto turned tail and fled. Only Seto's father-in-law, Bugenhagen, knows the truth.
[FF7]
35 B.G.:

• Barret Wallace is born in Corel Village. [FF7]

32 B.G.:

• Cid Highwind is born. [FF7]

30 - 29 B.G.

• Professor Gast, Shinra's leading scientist, heads a team including a young man
named Hojo, a woman named Lucrecia into the Nibelheim Mountains. Gast
excavates the body of JENOVA, whom he believes to be an Ancient, and sets up
his research lab in the Shinra Mansion in the nearby town. [FF7]
• Grimoire Valentine, Vincent Valentine's father, discovers an ancient Cetran tablet
describing Omega and Chaos, a partnership capable of destroying the world. He
believes it may have to do with the "Promised Land" and is given permission to
study it. He also takes on an assistant - Dr. Lucrecia Crescent. Together, they
discover a cavern, which they reason is where Chaos will eventually awake. They
also find the Protomateria there. [DoC]
• During an experiment on a dark substance they they find there (later known as
"G-substance"), it jumps out of the regeneration tube and attacks Dr. Valentine.
He later dies of the wound and Lucrecia blames herself for it. [DoC]
• Vincent Valentine joins the Turks. [DoC]

29 B.G.:

• Vincent Valentine is assigned to protect Lucrecia Crescent while she is working

with Dr. Hojo, a brilliant Shinra scientist. He does not know his father was
working with Dr. Crescent before he died. [FF7 and DoC]
• Vincent falls for Lucrecia, but he also sees that she is in love with Hojo, and
resigns himself to that fate. Lucrecia also chooses Hojo and his proposed
experiment on her unborn child. She does so because she feels guilty about
Vincent's father. Vincent discovers this fact, and additional information about the
experiment that killed him. The effects of this on their relationship are unknown,
but there is strife. [FF7 and DoC]

28 B.G.:

• Lucrecia's son is born and given the name Sephiroth. He is not told his true
origins, however, instead being told that his mother, named JENOVA, died giving
birth to him. [FF7]
• When Vincent discovers that Sephiroth is a result of Hojo having injected
Lucrecia's yet-unborn baby with JENOVA's DNA, Vincent loses it and confronts
Hojo. Hojo kills Vincent and conducts an operation on his body, reviving him and
turning him into an unstable monster capable of mutating further when angered.
[FF7 and DoC]
• However, Vincent's body proves unstable, and Lucrecia takes it to perform further
experiments on it. She injects Vincent with the Chaos gene; the process unleashes
Chaos for a moment, but it is quickly subdued. She takes the Protomateria and
embeds it in Vincent's body, fully reviving him but leaving him with the effects of
both Hojo's experimentation (the ability to turn into monsters) and the Chaos
gene. [DoC]
• A short period later, Lucrecia dies, though her induction of JENOVA cells seems
to have some sort of after effect. Vincent remains ignorant of her fate. In disgrace,
Vincent enters a coffin in the Shinra Mansion and falls into a deep sleep. A
"reflection" of Lucrecia remains inside a crystal in the Waterfall Cave.[DoC and
FF7]

25-22 B.G.:

• Dr. Gast also flees from Hojo and runs to Icicle Inn in the north, where he
discovers a Cetra named Ifalna, who he believes is the last of her race. Hoping to
get information on the Promised Land, he videotapes his interviews with her, but
eventually falls in love. [FF7]

22 B.G.:

• Dr. Gast and Ifalna have a child together. They name their daughter Aeris. [FF7]
• 20 days after Aeris is born, Hojo storms the inn, discovers the Ancients and
attempts to take them. Dr. Gast is killed trying to protect them, and Ifalna and
Aeris are captured by Hojo. [FF7, Aeris's age from BC]

21 B.G.:

• Cloud Strife is born in Nibelheim. [FF7]

20 B.G.:

• Tifa Lockheart is born in Nibelheim. [FF7]

16 B.G.:

• Yuffie Kisaragi is born in Wutai to King Godo. [FF7]

c. 15 B.G.:

• Shinra's military wing proceeds to declare war on Wutai, an Oriental village.

Shinra is eventually victorious, and its leader Godo humbled. Eventually Wutai
loses its status as an honorable and polite nation and becomes a tourist attraction.
[FF7]
• Ifalna somehow manages to take Aeris and escape Hojo. Gravely injured, she
makes it to the Midgar Sector 7 Train Station before collapsing. A woman named
Elmyra discovers them, and promises they dying mother to take care of Aeris, as
her own husband had died during the Midgar-Wutai war. Ifalna gives Aeris the
White Materia, a legendary stone which has the power to call Holy. Aeris grows
up thinking the Materia doesn't do anything at all. [FF7]
• Over time, Aeris begins to show a strange talent. She is able to sense the death of
Elmyra's husband out at war with Wutai before Elmyra actually gets word of it.
She also seems to be able to 'talk to the Planet'. [FF7]
• Eventually she gathers the interest of the Turks, who watch her, trying to persuade
her to join their ranks. Aeris takes up a job as a flower girl in the Midgar slums.
[FF7]
• Cid Highwind, creator of the Tiny Bronco biplane, is given the go-ahead by
Shinra to launch a space rocket from his home town. Having looked forward to
this time for ages, his excitement is mounting when his assistant, Shera, discovers
a malfunction in an energy tank. She refuses to leave the soon-to-be-burning-hot
chamber, and Cid forces himself to shut the rocket down before it can ignite. He
refuses to forgive Shera for destroying his dream, and Shera lives with him in
penance from then on, acting as a servant. [FF7]

15 - 10 B.G.:

• Hojo performs experiments using cells from the body of JENOVA. He infuses
Shinra soldiers with JENOVA cells. The results are staggering - those who are
infected have strength and skills far beyond normal persons. Based on these
results, Shinra forms SOLDIER, a program designed to use and train an elite
military force by infusing subjects with Mako and JENOVA cells. [FF7]
• Sephiroth quickly rises in the ranks of the Shinra military, due to his being the
prototype for the SOLDIER program. He is monitored continuously and shows
promise far beyond anyone else. [BC and FF7: It's hard to say what Square means
by prototype, as FF7 says SOLDIER was created well after Sephiroth was born,
and that Sephiroth was part of the JENOVA project, but BC says Sephiroth was
the SOLDIER prototype. We may assume that by Prototype, they could mean role
model, or the SOLDIER program was simply not officially introduced until after
Sephiroth had been deemed a success.]
• This is also the earliest mention of the Turks, which are technically known as the
Investigation Division of the General Affairs Department in Shinra. [BC]
• Cloud and Tifa grow up next to each other in the city of Nibelheim. They are not
particularly friends, however much Cloud would like it to be otherwise. After the
death of Tifa's mother, she runs into the Nibel Mountains. Cloud follows her, but
a bridge they both stand on breaks, and Cloud is blamed for the injuries suffered
by Tifa. They later have a conversation by a well where Cloud tells Tifa of his
desire to go to Midgar and join SOLDIER, and promises to come back for Tifa if
he should make it big in Midgar. [FF7]
• Hojo brings his experiments to the Mako Reactor in Nibelheim, which involve
dousing human beings in condensed Mako. Eventually the humans become
completely unrecognizable monsters, but they are watched closely in sealed
containers. The suspended-animation device containing JENOVA is moved there
as well. [FF7]

10 B.G.:

• Denzel is born to well-to-do parents in Sector 1. [OAWTAS: Denzel]

10 B.G. - 7 B.G.:

• President Shinra turns a SOLDIER hospital underneath Sector 0 of Midgar into

Deepground, an elite battle unit whose soldiers undergo high-level Mako
conditioning. The only others who know of this top-secret project are Hojo,
Heidigger, and Scarlet. [DoC]
• Shelke and Shalua Rui's mother passes away. [DoC]
• Zack, a Gongaga native who has moved to Midgar to join SOLDIER, meets
Aeris. The two date for a while, but Aeris cannot take the fact that he is in such a
violent organization and they break up [FF7 Conjecture: The time where Zack
and Aeris date is never said, but it is reasonable to assume it was before Zack
became a SOLDIER]

7 B.G.:

• Cloud moves to Midgar and joins Shinra. He attempts to join SOLDIER as well,
but fails to make the cut. Instead he is relegated to a small position in the Shinra
military force, little more than a grunt. [FF7]
• Shelke Rui is kidnapped or recruited by Deepground after they recognize her
deep-diving abilities. Her sister Shalua begins her quest to find her. [DoC]

6 B.G.:

• The Shinra-Wutai war comes to a close, with Sephiroth having led the victory and
become a hero. With this, the world becomes dependent on the Shinra Electric
Company's power.[BC]
• Sephiroth and Zack become friends, often going on missions together. [BC
Conjecture: Earliest known evidence of this]
• Cloud fails to make the cut into SOLDIER, becoming a military grunt who often
tails after Sephiroth and Zack, keeping the lower half of his face hidden. [BC
Conjecture: Earliest known evidence of this]
• The insurgent terrorist group AVALANACHE appears in opposition to Shinra's
domination in military, power, and politics. This group is far more militant and
organized. Its creation does not appear to have anything to do with the fall of
Wutai. Shinra dispatches the Turks to deal with this threat.[BC]
• Tseng, Reno, and Rude are with the Turks. [BC: This is the earliest known point
in the timeline where we see Tseng, Reno, and Rude as Turks]
• Reeve Tuesti, the current Minister of Housing and Urban Development for
Midgar, creates a prototype Cait Sith, which assists one of the Turks on a mission.
[BC]
• At some point, Heidegger briefly takes command of the Turks, pushing them
towards a more strong-arm tactics. Verdot negotiates control back from him
though. [BC]

5 B.G.:

• Sephiroth, now a famous General from the Wutai-Midgar war, and Zack, a 1st
class member of SOLDIER, are assigned to Nibelheim to investigate the Nibel
Mako Reactor upon hearing of monster attacks. Cloud, a military grunt excited to
be in the presence of the much admired Sephiroth, is assigned to accompany
them, suffering motion sickness the whole truck ride over. [FF7 Conjecture: Also
note that Cloud and Zack have become friends at some point during their
individual training]
• Tifa Lockheart is assigned as their tour guide through the Nibel Mountains. She
does not recognize Cloud, who is disguised under his military outfit. Someone
takes a picture of them before they leave. [FF7]
• Sephiroth finds the JENOVA and Mako-infused monsters in the reactor, as well
as the chamber holding JENOVA itself. He begins to doubt his origins and who
he is. He discovers a secret library in Nibelheim where he finds out the truth about
himself, that he was created with JENOVA cells from before birth. Overwhelmed
by the new information and the lies he was told, he goes on a rampage, beliving
himself to be the 'chosen one', the one to rule the Planet, and burns Nibelheim to
the ground. Zack and Cloud find that he intends on taking JENOVA, who he now
considers his true mother. Tifa runs up to the mountains for revenge, followed by
Zack, who is in turn followed by Cloud. [FF7]
• As Sephiroth tries to open the chamber to JENOVA, Tifa takes Sephiroth's sword
(which he has carelessly left on the ground) and attempts to stab him for the death
of her father. Sephiroth gets the better of her and slashes her, leaving her seriously
injured on the ground. He enters the inner chamber and takes JENOVA's head
from its stasis container. Zack arrives to attack Sephiroth and is also stabbed and
lies wounded. Cloud eventually comes, finds Tifa lying bleeding on the ground.
Overcome by emotion, he takes Zack's sword, and attacks Sephiroth. Sephiroth
easily dispatches him, and runs him through the gut with his masamune. Cloud is
seriously injured, but in a haze of emotion, somehow manages to grasp the sword
by the blade and reverse the hold, throwing Sephiroth into the Lifestream beneath
him. [FF7]
• Sephiroth drifts through the Lifestream and ends up in the Northern Crater,
frozen. [FF7]
• Tifa is rescued by her martial arts instructor, Zangan. She makes her way to
Midgar, where she opens a bar in Sector 7 called Seventh Heaven. [FF7]
• Zack and Cloud, both barely alive, are captured by Hojo, taken to the basement of
the Shinra Mansion (also in Nibelheim), and used as part of his new experiment -
to attempt to create Sephiroth clones (clones is something of a misnomer, as he is
trying to make another Sephiroth through injection of JENOVA cells and
concentrated doses of Mako). Most of Hojo's other victims are from the ruins of
Nibelheim. All other the experiments are failures, resulting in a vegetable-like
state, and most end up in the slums of Midgar. Cloud does not take to the
treatment - the JENOVA cells do not affect him. Hojo labels him a failure, but
keeps him around. [FF7]
• Zack recovers more quickly than Cloud, probably because of his healthier
constitution. When a guard comes to give Zack his food, he knocks out the guard,
rescues Cloud (who can barely move) and escapes. He hitches a truck to Midgar,
taking Cloud with him the whole time. After debating with himself, he decides
that he and Cloud should become mercenaries. While climbing a cliff overlooking
Midgar, they are chased down by Shinra soldiers. Zack is shot dead, but they
leave Cloud, who can still barely talk and move. Cloud manages to crawl to
Zack's body and take his buster sword. [FF7 - There are some events in Last
Order (a 30 minute anime extra in the JP version of FF7:AC) that conflict with
the game. Events of the game are presented here.]
• Cloud's mind, awash in pain and fear, confused and sick and neck-deep in self-
denial, guilt, and shame, begins to construct its own version of the events of
Nibelheim. He merges his memories with the role Zack played and takes his
position in the occurrences, thinking he became a member of SOLDIER. He also
glosses over his friendship with Tifa as if they were best friends. He somehow
manages to make his way to the Midgar train station. Tifa finds him there, and
decides to watch over him for a while. [FF7 - Why Cloud did what he did is
conjecture, but reasonable assumptions can be made]
• Shinra orders Nibelheim to be rebuilt and populated with Shinra staff to oversee
the actions of the Sephiroth clones from Nibelheim. They are ordered to pretend
no catastrophe has ever happened there. (The flashback which shows the escape
from Shinra Mansion is only seen in the American and International versions, not
the original Japanese version) [FF7]
• Hojo takes the remaining body of JENOVA from Nibelheim and ships it to Shinra
HQ in Midgar, minus the head that Sephiroth took with him. [FF7]

4 B.G.:

• Sephiroth finds that he can control Hojo's attempted "clones" with his mind,
although he cannot make them do anything of any value due to their vegetable
state. However, he finds that he can control Cloud more effectively, as long as he
does it on a subtle level. [FF7 - Conjecture]
• Shinra decides to build a Mako Reactor in the coal mining town of Corel, sending
Scarlet, leader of Shinra's military wing, as their representative. The plan is
opposed by a man named Dyne, but his best friend Barret Wallace convinces him
to let it go. The Mako Reactor is eventually built. [FF7]
• One day, when Barret and Dyne are outside the city, they return to see the city in
flames. An accident occurred at the Reactor, and Shinra blamed the townspeople,
burning the town. Barret's wife Myrna and Dyne's wife Eleanor are killed in the
fire, but Dyne's newborn daughter Marlene survives. The two attempt to return to
the city, but are stopped by Scarlet. In the pursuit, Dyne falls over the edge of a
chasm; Barret grabs his arm. While the two hang there, both thier arms are shot
off by Scarlet. Dyne drops, but Barret survives. [FF7]
• Dyne survives the drop, unbeknownst to Barret. Both of them, overcome with
anger, replace their missing arms with chain guns. However, Dyne's mind
deteriorates, flooded with grief from the tragedy, and he becomes unstable. [FF7]
• Gold Saucer, a huge entertainment complex, is built over the ruins of Corel, and
the old town eventually becomes Corel Prison, where convicted criminals are
held. The survivors of Corel move north and start a new town, called North Corel,
but they remain a poor town. [FF7]
• Dyne moves to the Corel Prison and takes it over, becoming known as the Boss.
Barret moves to Midgar with Marlene (whom he adopts), and starts a rebel group
named AVALANCHE, intent on stopping Shinra wherever they turn. [FF7]

4 - 0 B.G.:

• Yuffie leaves Wutai in anger, and searching for Materia. It is her belief that
bringing Materia will allow Wutai to protect itself and regain its honor and status.
[FF7]
• Nanaki of Cosmo Canyon is captured by Hojo and used in an unrelated
experiment. Hojo brands him "Red XIII". [FF7]
• Cloud, now fully recovered, but still taciturn, begins to aspire to move out of
Midgar. Wanting to keep an eye on him, Tifa approaches Cloud with a
proposition. She convinces him to act as a mercenary for AVALANCHE, whose
headquarters are in Tifa's bar - Seventh Heaven. [FF7]

0 B.G.: (the events of FF7)

• Cloud's first mission with AVALANCHE is blow up the Sector 1 Reactor. Cloud
and Barret are aided by Biggs, Wedge, and Jessie, and succeed in planting a
bomb, disabling the reactor. Cloud meets a flower girl (Aeris) on the way out,
who offers to sell him a flower for 1 gil. Cloud heads back with Barret to Seventh
Heaven, where they are greeted by Tifa and Barret's adopted daughter, Marlene.
[FF7]
• Denzel's parents move to Sector 5. [OAWTAS: Denzel]
• AVALANCHE carries out a second mission on the Sector 5 Reactor. However,
they are visited by President Shinra, who leaves them to be destroyed by a new
military robot. They disable the robot, but an explosion drops Cloud through the
roof of a church in the Sector 5 slums, where he is discovered by Aeris. [FF7]
The explosion kills the parents of Denzel and leaves him homeless, wandering to
anyone who will take him in. [AC]
• Reno chooses this time to lead a faction of Shinra soldiers into the church in
another attempt at capturing Aeris. Cloud helps Aeris escape and they travel to
her house, where she introduces him to Elmyra. Cloud asks how he can get back
to Sector 7, and is told that Wall Market, in Sector 6, is the only way there. Aeris
offers to take him, but both Cloud and Elmyra agree secretly that he should leave
without her. [FF7]
• Don Corneo, a playboy who lives in Wall Market, is ordered by Heidigger (head
of Shinra's "Public Safety Maintenance", a euphemism for the Turks) to discover
Barret's whereabouts. He does so, but Barret finds out from Corneo's assistant
about him, as well. He keeps a harem of women and chooses one each night.
Barret agrees to let Tifa infiltrate his mansion and extract whatever he knows
from him. [FF7]
• Cloud makes it through Sector 6 alone, but finds Aeris waiting for him at a nearby
playground. Before they can leave to Wall Market, they see a Chocobo-driven
coach with none other than Tifa on it; Cloud resolves to find out what's up. They
continue to Wall Market. [FF7]
• Cloud and Aeris find out about Don Corneo. Aeris offers to go in herself, but
Cloud refuses to let her. Aeris decides to dress Cloud up as a girl and have him
infiltrate the mansion himself! They do so, find Tifa and rescue her from Corneo's
henchmen, and corner him in his room. They find out that Shinra is planning on
destroying the entire Sector 7 to get at AVALANCHE. Before they can get there,
though, Corneo drops them into the sewers and sics his pet monster on them.
[FF7]
• They defeat the monster, make their way through the sewers and the nearby train
graveyard. They find the pillar which holds up Sector 7 already under attack, with
Barret and the other AVALANCHE members in hot battle. Aeris agrees to stay
behind to look after the wounded. She finds Marlene there and sends her to her
house in Sector 5. However, she is captured by Tseng. Meanwhile, Reno of the
Turks activates the destruct sequence for the pillar, keeping Cloud and party
occupied while it runs down. Cloud, Tifa, and Barret make it out alive, but the
other AVALANCHE members perish in the explosion. [FF7]
• Barret finds Marlene at Aeris's house in Elmyra's care, and tells them to move
away from Midgar, as it's no longer safe. They listen to him and set off for nearby
Kalm Town. The AVALANCHE members travel to Sector 0 via a wire in Wall
Market, and enter the Shinra HQ in an effort to rescue Aeris. They're helped by
Mayor Domino, who's sick of his office being abused by Shinra. [FF7]
• On the 66th floor they overhear a discussion about the destruction of Sector 7 and
see Hojo for the first time. They follow him to the next floor up, where Cloud
finds the headless remains of JENOVA taken to the HQ after Nibelheim. Nearby,
they discover Aeris an a container. Hojo tries to get Aeris and a strange red beast
in the same chamber for procreation reasons, but Barret blasts the chamber and a
reaction occurs. Hojo quickly opens it, but is attacked by the beast, who turns out
to be Nanaki/Red XIII. [FF7]
• The five people split up and agree to meet at the 66th floor elevator, but are
captured by the Turks and brought to the top floor. President Shinra gives them a
long-winded speech, then locks them in jail. However, a Sephiroth clone arrives
during the night and slaughters everyone, including President Shinra. It also takes
the remains of JENOVA's body during its escape. Rufus, the President's son, takes
over as President. Cloud confronts Rufus on the roof while the others escape and
Tifa waits for him, but Rufus takes a helicopter out as well. [FF7]
• Cloud and Tifa rejoin the others on the main floor; they escape using a motorcycle
and a stolen truck. They end up outside Midgar, and Cloud tells them that they
must search after Sephiroth. They travel to Kalm Town, where he explains the
story (casting himself in the role of Zack, as this is what he believes) and vows to
destroy Sephiroth. [FF7]
• They catch a nearby Chocobo and travel through a nearby marsh to the Mythril
Mines. They meet Tseng, Rude, and a new member of the Turks named Elena,
who's taken over while Reno recuperates from his injuries in the Sector 7 pillar
fiasco. She blurts out that Sephiroth has been seen in Junon. [FF7]
• Cloud and co. travel to Junon, where they rescue a girl named Priscilla and her
dolphin friend from a water dragon. They're told that Rufus is arriving soon in the
upper levels of Junon. Priscilla lends them Mr. Dolphin to reach the upper levels.
Cloud disguises himself as a guard and marches in Rufus's welcoming parade. In
the meantime, his other party members disguise themselves as sailors and stow
away on a cargo ship, dragging Cloud with them when the parade is over. [FF7]
• Sephiroth (or rather, a clone controlled by Sephiroth) shows up on the cargo ship
as well, and JENOVA attacks them. He quickly disappears after the battle. [FF7]
• Cloud and party end up at Costa del Sol, a vacation village. They meet Hojo,
who's on a vacation, but he tells them to go to Mount Corel. [FF7]
• They do so, and end up in North Corel, where Barret is accused of causing the fire
that afflicted the village all those years ago. Barret gets angry and depressed, and
Aeris suggests they go to the nearby Gold Saucer, a huge amusement park, to let
off steam. They meet a toy cat riding a toy moogle, calling itself Cait Sith; it is
controlled by Reeve, the head of urban development in Shinra; it insinuates itself
as a spy into the party. [FF7]
• However, Dyne comes up for a visit as well, and butchers a bunch of people near
the Battle Arena. A stunned witness claims it was done by a man with a gun on
his arm, and Barret is indicted for the crime by Dio, the Gold Saucer's owner.
Barret and his friends (including Cait Sith) are taken to the Corel Prison. [FF7]
• Barret discovers Dyne in the Prison, and Dyne attacks him. Barret defeats him,
and Dyne throws himself off the gorge for the last time. He gives Barret his
necklace as collateral for Barret to get back up to the surface. The only way up is
to win a Chocobo race, and Cloud volunteers for the job. He wins, of course, and
Dio, by way of apology, lends him a Buggy to travel around in. [FF7]
• They take the Buggy to Gongaga, a town to the south. They meet up with Reno
and Rude, who have been alerted to their presence by Cait Sith. They drive them
off, though. They come across a deserted reactor and witness Scarlet and Tseng
attempt to take materia from it; the materia is apparently not up to par. Scarlet is
looking for Huge Materia (an extremely dense isotope) for a new weapon. They
also meet Zack's parents, but Cloud doesn't remember Zack at all. [FF7]
• The Buggy shorts out after trying to get past Cosmo Canyon, so they are forced to
take refuge there while a repairman fixes it. They are greeted warmly when the
townspeople find out that Nanaki/Red XIII is with them. Red XIII introduces
them to his grandfather, Bugenhagen. Bugenhagen wishes Red XIII to go with
Cloud to defeat Sephiroth, but first intends to tell him the truth about his father.
[FF7]
• He takes Red XIII and Cloud's party through the sealed corridor (which is now
infested with ghosts of the Gi tribe) and to the end, where Red XIII sees the stone
visage of his father. Having been told the truth, he resolves to travel with Cloud to
defeat Sephiroth. [FF7]
• Cloud and party reach Nibelheim. No one there recognizes them, however, since
it is staffed by Shinra officers and vegetable-like Sephiroth clones. They descend
back into the Shinra Mansion where they are met by Sephiroth (another clone)
again. He flies away after mentioning the "Reunion". [FF7]
• SIDE QUEST: Cloud finds the key to the room housing Vincent in the Shinra
Mansion and convince him to help him fight Sephiroth and Hojo.
• Cloud and party travel through the Nibel Mountains to Rocket Town, where they
discover President Rufus and Palmer, head of the space division of Shinra, trying
to convince Cid to lend them his Tiny Bronco bi-plane. Cid refuses, and he and
Cloud escape on the Tiny Bronco. However, Shinra soldiers shoot it down, and it
becomes only good enough for a makeshift boat. [FF7]
• SIDE QUEST: If Cloud finds Yuffie in forests near Junon, they fight. After he
beats her, she joins him when she realizes he has lots of Materia, and schemes to
steal it at her first opportunity. After Cloud gets the Tiny Bronco, Yuffie suggests
they visit Wutai. Once there, Yuffie steals all his Materia and runs away. He
chases her throughout Wutai, and finds the three Turks on their break there as
well. They are asked by Shinra to search for Don Corneo, but refuse. However,
Elena and Yuffie become captured by Corneo, and the Turks agree to help Cloud
save them and drop Corneo off a cliff. [FF7]
• SIDE QUEST: If Yuffie manages to defeat the bosses in the Tower of the Five
Gods, including her father Godo, she and he will have a reunion and she will
receive the materia to summon Leviathan, who is the protector of Wutai. [FF7]
• On the coast of the main continent, a weapon maker in a secluded hut tells Cloud
about the Temple of the Ancients, a legendary place housing the Black Materia.
The Black Materia has the power to call Meteor, an ancient destructive magic.
However, he tells them that a Keystone is needed to enter the Temple. [FF7]
• Dio, owner of the Gold Saucer, has a Keystone and is willing to part with it if
Cloud fights in the Battle Arena. He does so, and Dio is good to his word.
However, the Ropeway connecting to the mainland has been broken, and Cloud
and co. are stuck in the Gold Saucer. Cait Sith takes them to the inn in the Ghost
Square to meet, talk, and sleep. [FF7]
• Cloud is awoken in the middle of the night by either Aeris, Tifa, Yuffie, or Barret
(the character depends on how Cloud has responded to each of them throughout
the game up to this point, usually it will be either Tifa or Aeris). Cloud and
Cloud's date have a night out in the Gold Saucer, partaking in a comic play in the
Event Square and seeing the sights in the Round Square. However, they see Cait
Sith with the Keystone. He runs away. They chase him to the Chocobo Square,
where he throws the Keystone to Tseng, who escapes in a helicopter. Cloud
threatens Cait Sith, but he plays a recording of Marlene, captured by Shinra,
which stays his hand. [FF7]
• Cait Sith pleads to be allowed to follow Cloud to the Temple of Ancients;
doubtless Shinra was there first, but they would still need to follow them there to
find Sephiroth. Cloud finally agrees. [FF7]
• They arrive in the Temple of Ancients to find Tseng wounded by the Sephiroth
clone. Sephiroth has continued to the bowels of the Temple, and Cloud and Aeris
follow him. Aeris discovers the voices of Ancients telling her things inside the
Temple; for starters, about the ultimate black magic Meteor which is kept via the
Black Materia. The Sephiroth clone visits them and tells them that if he would
call Meteor, the planet would unleash a huge amount of energy to intend to heal
it; and if he were at the center of the planet, the energy would all channel into
him. [FF7]
• They find the Black Materia itself. It's kept in a strange puzzle; a miniature
Temple of the Ancients, which itself contains another model, and so on; the Black
Materia is in the bottom. However, by reaching it and canceling the models, the
adventurer would cause the entire thing to collapse on him. Cait Sith (being a toy
robot) volunteers to do it himself. He does so, and the Temple of the Ancients
collapses, leaving the Black Materia at the bottom. Somehow, Tseng survives
this, either by being carried out by another or his own volition. [FF7]
• Cloud finds the Black Materia, but Sephiroth controls him and forces him to give
it to another clone, who begins the journey back to the North Crater. Cloud begins
deliriously attacking Aeris, but is stopped by Cait Sith #2, who shows up at this
point. [FF7]
• Now that the Black Materia is in the hands of Sephiroth, Aeris decides to travel to
a sacred place, the Forgotten Capital. At its bottom is a water altar where an
Ancient can summon Holy to counteract Meteor. Aeris tells Cloud in a dream
she's going to the Sleeping Forest, and leaves. [FF7]
• Cloud follows her to Bone Village, the entrance to Sleeping Forest. He excavates
a Lunar Harp, which allows him to enter the Forest and Coral Valley, which leads
to the Forgotten City. They wait until night, when the passage to the water altar
opens, and discover Aeris praying there. However, she is given a surprise visit by
a Sephiroth clone, who runs her through with his sword, killing her instantly. The
White Materia she carries falls into the ocean and begins glowing green,
indicating that Holy has been activated. However, the real Sephiroth in the North
Crater stops Holy somehow. Cloud "buries" Aeris in the nearby pool. [FF7]
• Cloud follows the Sephiroth Clone north through the Snow Fields to Icicle Inn,
where they find evidence of Dr. Gast and Ifalna. They are also met by Elena and
some Shinra officers, who refuse to let them out of the village. Elena blames
Cloud for Tseng's death, and they fight. Cloud finds a snowboard and a map to the
Great Glacier, and snowboards down the slopes to reach it. [FF7]
• They find their way to Mount Gaea, a huge, cold mountain. An old man named
Holzoff offers shelter and advice before they climb it. At its top they finally see
the Northern Crater. They continue down to the Whirlwind Maze, where the
Reunion is taking place - all the Sephiroth clones are returning to him, where he
cuts them down. [FF7]
• Rufus, Scarlet, and Hojo arrive in the Highwind, a Shinra airship. They discover
the resting place of the Weapons. In the meantime, Cloud, Tifa, and the party find
the Sephiroth clone who stole the Black Materia, and fight it out out of him.
Cloud, though, is scared that Sephiroth may control him again, so he gives the
Materia to one of his party members to hold while he goes ahead. Sephiroth,
however, ends up tricking the party member into running after Cloud to the center
of the crater. [FF7]
• Cloud is given an illusion by Sephiroth intended on confusing him; in fact,
Sephiroth is only telling him the truth: that he *wasn't* the SOLDIER at
Nibelheim. Cloud's mind begins to deteriorate. The party member arrives on the
scene and gives the Black Materia to Cloud. Cloud is unable to resist Sephiroth's
mind and throws the Black Materia into the Mako pool where Sephiroth's real
body resides. Sephiroth immediately calls the Meteor spell. The remaining party
members and Shinra officials quickly escape on the Highwind. The five Weapons
are awakened. Sephiroth erects an energy barrier around the Northern Crater,
stopping anyone from coming in. [FF7]
• Tifa and Barret are arrested and brought to Inner Junon, where Shinra plans on
executing them publicly to blame them for the giant meteor on the horizon. Yuffie
infiltrates Junon, posing as a reporter, Cait Sith as an official, and Cid and the
others attempt to hijack the Highwind. Cait Sith helps Barret escape, but they are
too late to save Tifa from the gas room she's been put in. However, before the
execution can take place, one of the five Weapons attacks Junon. The giant
cannon is put into use and destroys the Weapon before it can do any major
damage. It does manage to break the seal of the gas room Tifa is locked in, and
she manages to escape. [FF7]
• Cait Sith rushes Barret to the Highwind. Tifa manages to elude Scarlet and her
Shinra cronies until she reaches the very end of the Junon cannon, where she
engages in a slapping fight. Before Scarlet can fire on her, though, Cid and Barret
execute a daring rescue and they fly away on the Highwind. [FF7]
• Tifa leads the search for Cloud; they find him in the city of Mideel, suffering from
extreme Mako poisoning. Tifa decides to stay with him, and Cid takes over as
leader. Cait Sith offers news of Shinra's new plan to create a cannon which
utilizes Huge Materia as a weapon. Cid decides to stop the plans at all costs.
[FF7]
• The first of four Huge Materia shipments is at the North Corel reactor. Cid leads a
party there; they hijack the train holding it, and manage to stop the train before it
crashes into the city. [FF7] [Note: The game allows the possibility of not being
able to save the game, but it does not effect any of the other events of the game,
except that the party continues to be spurned at Corel]
• The second is at the top of Fort Condor, where the people (who are trying to
protect the condors at the top of the fort) have been waging war against the Shinra
forces trying to take it over. Cid assists them and rescues the condors and the
Huge Materia. However, the large condor at the top of the fort dies and leaves an
egg, which hatches into a baby condor. [FF7]
• Cid becomes worried about Cloud and returns to Mideel, which is suddenly
attacked by the Ultima Weapon! The city breaks up and Cloud and Tifa fall into
the Lifestream. Here, Tifa and Cloud strive on getting at the truth, and the true
version of the past is realized. Cloud remembers himself and he and Tifa escape
the Lifestream. [FF7]
• Shinra takes the huge cannon from Junon to Midgar, to position it to destroy the
barrier around the Northern Crater. [FF7]
• Cloud takes over as leader and leads the expedition to rescue the third Huge
Materia. They travel to the Underwater Reactor in Junon. They are stopped by
Reno, but beat the mechanical monstrosity he sics on them. They hijack a
submarine and shoot down the one carrying the Huge Materia, later rescuing it
from the wreckage. They then get a transmission to return to Junon (Shinra
thinking that the sub is manned by their own troops). [FF7]
• The fourth and last Huge Materia is taken on the Gelnika, a Shinra transport, to
Rocket Town. It is intended to be shot into space, along with a Materia bomb, to
explode at the Meteor. Cid and Cloud travel there and beat Rude (who is guarding
the rocket). They are given no warning before the rocket takes off, however (with
Shera as its technician). They manage to unlock the Huge Materia and take it with
them. However, the rocket is on a crash course for the Meteor and before they can
reach an escape pod, an energy tank blows and crushes Cid. He is saved by Shera
helping the other two party members, and apologizes to her. He notes that the tank
which blew was the same one Shera was worried about during the first launch
attempt. They take the escape pod back to Earth. The bomb damages Meteor, but
does not disrupt its path (bits fly off it but are kept near the main bulk by magical
forces). [FF7]
• They return to Bugenhagen in Cosmo Canyon. He tells them that he will watch
over the Huge Materia, and reminds them that Aeris is probably the key to
defeating Sephiroth. They return to the Forgotten Capital, where Bugenhagen
finds reference to a key hidden in the depths. Cloud finds the key by using the
Shinra submarine and searching underwater, and brings it back to the Forgotten
Capital. It is used to activate a display which teaches them about the White
Materia and the fact that Holy is on its way, but stopped by Sephiroth. [FF7]
• Cait Sith (i.e. Reeve) learns that the Sister Ray, the huge Junon cannon, is ready
to fire, but before they can reach Midgar, the Diamond Weapon arises and heads
towards Midgar! Cloud staves it off but can't destroy it. The Sister Ray fires on
Sephiroth's barrier, destroying it and the Weapon, but not before the Weapon
unleashes a counterattack, which destroys the Shinra HQ and kills Rufus. [FF7]
• Reeve finds out that Hojo is powering up the Sister Ray again, this time to full
power, intending on sending the energy to Sephiroth in the Northern Crater.
Cloud and party parachute into Midgar, intent on stopping Hojo. They are stopped
by Elena, Rude, and Reno, and a fight breaks out, but the Turks run away after it.
(The fight can be avoided.) They are then attacked by a huge monster piloted by
Scarlet and Heidigger, which also fails to stop them. They finally find Hojo, who
undergoes various mutations (using injections of JENOVA cells) before finally
yielding to Cloud's attacks. [FF7]
• Cloud and party finally make their way to the Northern Crater and descend into it,
defeating JENOVA and Sephiroth once and for all. Meteor continues falling.
Then the Holy spell comes forth. However, it is too late. Meteor is too close and
the fierce combat of the two spells results in even more destruction. It seems not
only Midgar will be destroyed, but the entire planet. Just then, Lifestream
emerges from the Planet, aided by the consciousness of Aeris (and all those who
died), and pushes back Meteor, neutralizing it once and for all. This event
becomes known as Meteorfall.[FF7]
• Vincent and Yuffie lead a rescue operation of Midgar during Meteorfall. Vincent,
acting on a hunch, climbs up the tower to discover Hojo is still alive, returned to
human form, at the computer console where they left him. Just before Vincent is
able to pull the trigger on his gun, the tower explodes, and Vincent manages to
escape by jumping onto Yuffie's "hover bike". Hojo manages to activate the
"Fragment Program", a computer program that injects his consciousness into the
"worldwide net" just before the HQ explodes. [DoC]

SIDE QUESTS: (These can happen at any point in the game providing the player has the
ability to do them. For example, you will not be able to meet Lucrecia in the waterfall
cave if you never found Vincent in the first place!)

• Vincent discovers Lucrecia in a waterfall cave. The only thing he can thing to say
to her is that Sephiroth is dead. He later finds his best weapon (Death Penalty) and
Limit Break in the cave. [FF7] This Lucrecia is only a projection of the real
Lucrecia, who "crumbled away long ago". [DoC]
• Cloud breeds his own chocobo in the chocobo stables, and runs them in races. He
can find hints and tips about breeding by talking to a purple Chocobo Sage, who
unfortunately suffers from periodic amnesia. Cloud breeds his Chocobos in such
away they make ones with different transportational abilities (some can go in
land, some rivers), ending in the Gold Chocobo, which can go anywhere. He uses
these various Chocobos to visit four secret Materia caves; the Knights of the
Round summon is in one of them.[FF7]
• Cloud chases after the flying Ultima Weapon in the Highwind, and gets the
Ultima Weapon sword when he defeats it. It also causes a huge chasm in the
Cosmo Canyon area, and Cloud can climb to the Ancient Forest, which houses
another sword, the Apocalypse, as well as some other goodies like the Typoon
summon. [FF7]
• Cloud visits the Gelnika, shot down by a Weapon (possibly Emerald Weapon)
when flying to Rocket Town. Reno and Rude are here as well, and they initiate a
fight. Much treasure is inside, including the Hades summon. [FF7]
• Ruby Weapon buries itself in the Corel desert, only poking out a claw to catch
unwary travlers. Cloud manages to defeat it, and a trader in Kalm Town will gives
him his own gold Chocobo. (This is only in the American and International
versions, not the original Japanese version) [FF7]
• The Ghost Ship enemy in the Underwater Reactor drops a 'Guide Book' if
morphed. Cloud gives it to the trader in Kalm Town who returns with an
Underwater materia. This allows allows Cloud and the others to breathe
underwater so they can defeat the Emerald Weapon dwelling under the ocean. (If
Cloud does not have the master materia, he has twenty minutes to defeat the
weapon before he dies). After he defeats Emerald Weapon, the trader gives him
one of every Master Materia! (This is only in the American and International
versions, not the original Japanese version) [FF7]

0 - 2 A.G.:

• Meteor is destroyed, but when Lifestream spreads over the Planet, it carries
JENOVA cells with it (because JENOVA was blown apart inside the Planet and
its pieces fell into Lifestream). These JENOVA cells are contracted by people and
infect the body, which causes the body to fight back with its own spirit energy
(the body's internal lifestream). This internal conflict causes the body to
overcompensate and causes fatigue, open sores, discoloration of the skin,
secretion of black liquid, and eventually death. This disease becomes known as
Geostigma and heavily affects the people, though they do not know what causes
it, and thus, can't cure it. [AC]
• Cloud, Tifa, Barret, Cid, Yuffie, Vincent, Red XIII, and Cait Sith stop once at the
Forgotten City to pay homage to their fallen comrade. They all split up as easily
as they joined, but promise to reunite one day. [OAWTAS: Tifa]
• Midgar is in a shambles. The people decide to stop using Mako, and thus, the
Mako Reactors. Shinra Electric Company goes under (moreso) and Midgar is
abandoned. [OAWTAS: Denzel]
• Tifa, Cloud, and Barret go to Corel and then to Nibelheim. They all decide they
can't live in the past and travel to Kalm. There, Barret reunites with Marlene and
they tell Elmyra what has happened. Kalm becomes flooded with refugees, and
the three decide to go back to Midgar to try and reestablish normal lives.
[OAWTAS: Tifa]
• The citizens form a city on the borders of Midgar, calling it Edge. They construct
a monument to Midgar (a replica made out of debris) in the center of the town.
[OAWTAS: Tifa]
• Denzel continues staying with people who will take him in, suffering much
heartbreak as people around him die of Geostigma. Eventually he joins a group of
orphans who are hired to gather scrap material for the building of Edge.
[OAWTAS: Denzel]
• Barret comes to the house one day with a bottle of Corel wine. After getting drunk
he proposes they make a business out of selling the wine. They decide to build it
in Edge, and sleep under a plate threatening to fall as they gather the parts to build
it. [OAWTAS: Tifa]
• The bar is built, and they end up calling it Seventh Heaven again. Barret becomes
sort of a bouncer (although most of the time he just sits in a corner drinking
wine), and Cloud takes it upon himself to gather the fruits, vegetables, and other
goods needed to run the bar. He is having trouble socializing. [OAWTAS: Tifa]
• After the first week, Barret says he needs to go on a journey to settle his past,
leaving Marlene in Cloud and Tifa's care. [OAWTAS: Tifa]
• At some pont during this journey, Barret gets an upgrade to his gun arm, giving it
the ability to look and operate like a normal arm. [AC Conjecture: We see Barret
has a different gun which can change to look like a normal arm, albeit made of
metal]
• Months after the bar opens, Cloud buys a bike, and spends most of his free time
and money upgrading it. This allows him greater distances to travel to obtain
goods. While traveling back and forth, he also starts earning extra money by
delivering items for people. Tifa discovers this and encourages him to open up a
side-business venture. Strife Delivery Service is formed - Tifa and Marlene take
the calls, Cloud delivers the goods, although he can only go places he can reach
on his bike. The business is successful, as monsters are still present, and
lifestream geysers have ruined many of the roads. The business' success also
means Cloud isn't around much anymore, and Tifa's surrogate family finds itself
in a rift. [OAWTAS: Tifa]
• Eventually, most of the people move out of Midgar to this city, including Denzel's
group of orphans. Helpless and hungry, he finds a motorbike and a phone outside
a church. He calls the number and accidentally calls Tifa. After a brief exchange,
he collapses from Geostigma, and is brought to Tifa's. He lives there helping out
in the bar when he is not suffering from Geostigma's ill effects. When she asks
Cloud where he found him, she realizes that Cloud is staying somewhere else.
[OAWTAS: Denzel and OAWTAS: Tifa]
• Denzel treats Cloud as a hero and father figure. Although Tifa is a little hurt by
this, it means Cloud stays around more, taking less and less deliveries. Relations
between everyone seem to be getting better, and Tifa believes their family has
returned. [OAWTAS: Tifa]
• Tifa confronts Cloud about where he found Denzel. He confesses that he has been
staying at Aeris's church. After that conversation, Cloud leaves. The only way
Tifa can get in contact with him now is through PHS phone messages (he never
picks up). He does this because he feels guilt and shame for all those who died
that he could not prevent, particularly Aeris. Also, he hides the fact that he has
contracted Geostigma, which he covers with a single sleeve. Due to his Mako
exposure, he has more intense symptoms, with flashes of pain and white light, and
spasms in the affected arm. [OAWTAS: Tifa and AC]
• Reeve, having the financial backing of an anonymous sponsor (who Reeve
suspects "is in debt to the planet"), starts up the World Regenesis Organization, a
paramilitary outfit dedicated to cleansing the planet of its ills. Shalua Rui joins
them; at this point, she has lost her left eye and arm in unidentified circumstances
and uses a robotic arm. [OAWTAS: Denzel and DoC]
• Hojo's neural consciousness is fragmented into the world network. When the
world network is reactivated, his consciousness reforms. He uses his knowledge
of Deepground, and Lucrecia's experiments on Chaos and Omega to formulate a
plan. [DoC]
• On his journey, Barret looks for alternative fuel sources, coming upon an oil field.
[AC]
• Reno, Rude, Elena, Tseng, and Rufus Shinra, having survived everything, make
base at the Healin Lodge (west of Midgar), where Rufus is recovering from being
hit by Diamond Weapon. He also has Geostigma. With all that has happened, he
realizes the mistakes of the past and decides he must reform them. Procuring a
Shinra helicopter, he organizes a mission to Northern Crater to retrieve the last
remains of JENOVA. [AC]
2 A.G.: (the events of Advent Children)

• Reno, Tseng, and Elena go to Northern Crater to retrieve JENOVA's remains. The
mission goes awry when they discover Loz, Yazoo, and Kadaj there, and they are
attacked. Reno is able to get away with JENOVA's remains, but Tseng and Elena
are captured by the three, and tortured for information. [AC]
• In Edge, Marlene helps Tifa take care of the orphanage, including a boy named
Denzel, who has Geostigma. Tifa gets a call from Reno. He has asked her to tell
Cloud to meet them in Healin. [AC]
• Cloud receives the message from Tifa and goes to Healin via the Wasteland. But
he is attacked by Loz and Yazoo, who summon Shadow Creepers (monsters from
negative lifestream energy). It becomes apparent that they are looking for
"mother" and call Cloud "big brother". But as soon as they start attacking, they
stop, and Cloud makes it to Healin. [AC]
• Cloud is briefly attacked by Reno and Rude, who he easily shrugs off and
discovers Rufus is alive. He appears confined to a wheelchair and has Geostigma.
Rufus asks to hire him for his muscle, as he intends to restore Shinra as a
benevolent power and set things right, to reform the mistakes he's made. He tells
Cloud about the mission to Northern Crater, but when seeing he is not interested
in joining them, he tells Cloud they found nothing. [AC]
• Kadaj, after torturing Tseng and Elena, finds Rufus Shinra at Healin, and beats the
snot out of Reno and Rude. Kadaj demands to know where "mother" is, showing
him Tseng and Elena's bloody ID badges to show he means business. Rufus
replies he doesn't know, that the remains they recovered fell from the helicopter.
Kadaj reveals his plan to initiate another Reunion, using the Geostigma as the
invitation. [AC]
• Tifa and Marlene find the church where Cloud is staying and discover a dirty arm
ribbon, evidence he is hiding the fact he has Geostigma. Loz enters, looking for
"mother". He and Tifa fight, with Loz as the victor. Just as he's about to kill her,
Marlene throws a Materia globe at him from Cloud's big box. Loz leaves, taking
the materia and Marlene with him. [AC]
• Kadaj, Loz, and Yazoo gather together the children affected by Geostigma,
including Denzel, saying they are taking them to a place to heal them. [AC]
• Cloud returns to the church and finds Tifa unconscious in the flower bed. He
suffers a bad attack from his Geostigma and wakes up back in the orphanage.
Apparently, he was brought there by Rude and Reno, who go off to find what
happened to the children. Tifa confronts him about his disease and why he kept it
a secret. Cloud remains tight-lipped and closed off, saying he does not deserve
help. Tifa asks him to open up, knowing Aeris is at the back of his mind, but
Cloud refuses. Reno and Rude return, saying the children were brought to the
Forgotten City. Cloud leaves to pursue them. [AC]
• Kadaj takes one of the materia Loz has brought with him and inserts it into his
arm. He talks to the children at the pond in from of the Forgotten City. He tells
them that "mother" gave them a gift, but the planet is trying to fight it, causing the
Geostigma. He wants to heal them, to strike back at the Planet. He permeates the
water with his will and commands them to drink. They all do, including Denzel,
despite the pleas of Marlene. This activates their JENOVA cells and their
Reunion instinct, with Kadaj's hopes that this will lead them to JENOVA's
remains. [AC]
• Cloud arrives, ready for action, but the kids jump in front of his bike, causing him
to skid out. He is attacked by the three, and fights a losing battle, but is saved at
the last minute by Vincent. They retreat to a safe place in the forest where Vincent
reveals his theory of what Geostigma is and what Loz, Yazoo, and Kadaj are.
Marlene appears, asking for him to stop isolating himself from those who are still
with him and love him. Cloud decides to stop brooding and try gaining
forgiveness. [AC]
• In Edge, the children have gathered around the monument to Midgar. Loz and
Yazoo prepare to pull it down, believing this is where JENOVA is, but are
surrounded by angry parents and summon Shadow Creepers to fend them off and
cause chaos. Tifa tries to waken Denzel. Meanwhile, Rufus and Reno fight Loz
and Yazoo. [AC]
• Meanwhile, Rufus looks at the chaos from a vantage point in a building
somewhere in town. Kadaj approaches him, and Rufus asks what motivates him.
Kadaj confesses of his jealousy of Sephiroth, who JENOVA really wants, but
would do anything for "mother". Rufus says history will repeat itself, and no
matter what, Kadaj and his ilk would be stopped again and again. Kadaj answers
back by summoning Bahamut SIN through the materia. Bahamut causes even
more chaos in the town, as Kadaj has the ability to control it though the materia.
He makes Bahamut rip through the monument with its flare attack. The explosion
breaks the hold of the Geostigma on the children. Just as Bahamut is about to
attack Denzel, Barret arrives and fends him off. The others arrive too - Red XIII,
with Cait Sith on his back, Yuffie, Cid, and finally, Cloud. He says he feels
lighter. The group all take turns fighting Bahamut off, jumping from building to
building, as Bahamut destroys the place, but they are like ants to it. Cloud dives in
with a little more success. [AC]
• Back at the building, Rufus reveals he has been holding JENOVA's remains all
this time under his cloak, and throws the box off the building. Kadaj dives after it.
Rufus dives after him, shooting his gun. [AC]
• With Kadaj distracted, his control over Bahamut SIN is released, and Bahamut
returns to his default behavior and rises in the air to attack with Mega Flare.
Cloud jumps up in the air after it, being propelled by his friends Barret, Cid, Red
XIII, Yuffie, Vincent, and Tifa. But it is not enough, as the force of the Mega
Flare begins to push him back... until he receives a final hand from Aerith through
the flare. Cloud drags his sword along Bahamut's spine and he falls in a giant
explosion. [AC]
• Shinra and Kadaj are still falling. Kadaj grabs the box, but Shinra shoots it open.
Rufus is caught in nets thrown by Tseng and Elena. Kadaj recovers the box and
escapes on a bike. Cloud pursues them through a closed-off highway. Reno and
Rude wait with a flashy bomb at the end and detain Loz and Yazoo. Cloud and
Kadaj jump off the highway, and Cloud loses him in the wasteland. [AC]
• Kadaj hides in Cloud's church, opens the box, and screams when he sees the
damaged contents. Cloud finds him and drives his bike into the church. They fight
again, bringing down parts of the building. Just as it looks like Kadaj has the jump
on him, the flowerbed erupts with a geyser of water/lifestream, flooding the
church and repelling Kadaj. The water falls on Cloud, healing his Geostigma.
Cloud pursues Kadaj outside and the Shera, holding Cloud's friends, hovers
nearby (including Yuffie, who has apparently gotten over her motion sickness).
Vincent says that Kadaj is a remnant of Sephiroth, a larva. They discuss what to
do, but Tifa says Cloud has to fight this alone. The others don't understand, but go
along with it. [AC]
• Cloud successfully defeats Kadaj, leaving him hanging on the ledge of a building
with the box of JENOVA's remains in his free hand. Kadaj falls back, holding the
box, merging with the JENOVA cells. Cloud realizes what he's about to do and
dives in pursuit. Just as he is about to bring down his sword, he is blocked - by
Sephiroth's Masamune. They fight, as Sephiroth tells of what he wants to do, to
choke this Planet and turn it into a vessel to sail the cosmos and find a new Planet.
Sephiroth summons the spirit energy of those who died from Geostigma to turn
the world to darkness. Cloud remembers those who he cherishes and defeats
Sephiroth with Omnislash Ver. 5. Sephiroth wraps himself in his one black wing,
saying he will never be a memory, and vanishes, leaving Kadaj's form which falls.
Rain falls, rain like that from the lifestream that flooded the church. It falls on
Kadaj, healing his JENOVA cells, which makes him disappear. Cloud basks in
the rain and his victory as the Highwind returns. [AC]
• Suddenly, he is shot in the back by Yazoo, who stands with Loz on the building,
struggling not to disappear in the rain, using the ton of materia in their arms to
sustain themselves. Cloud attacks as they release the power of the materia,
causing an explosion. [AC]
• Cloud drifts through white space, being observed by the spirits of Zack and Aeris.
He wakes up in the church, surrounded by his friends and the children, in the pool
of lifestream that has flooded the floor. He pours the water over Denzel, healing
him of the Geostigma. All the other children jump in, laughing and splashing
around. As they have their fun, Cloud sees Aeris walking out of the church, with
Zack in the doorway. Cloud smiles, knowing he's been forgiven. [AC]

2 - 3 A.G.

• Vincent buys a cell phone.

• Hojo gains control of the body of Weiss the Immaculate, the strongest Tsviet (an
elite member of Deepground). He uses this to control the other Tsviets (including
Nero the Sable who has a deep affection for his brother Weiss) to begin gathering
troops in order to 1) gain the Protomateria in order to bring about Chaos and 2)
kidnap people not infected with Geostigma and drop them into Lifestream to
purify it to bring about Omega. [DoC]
• Deepground steps up its attempts to awaken Omega by kidnapping and killing
1200 people from Junon. Their troops attack, discard anyone who has a hint of
Geostigma, and take the "pure" victims to their headquarters, where they are
slaughtered. They attack Wutai in the same manner. They also upload all of
Lucrecia's data to Shelke, who uses it to learn of the Protomateria. Shelke begins
searching for Vincent in order to find the Protomateria. [DoC]

3 A.G. (the events of Dirge of Cerberus)

• Vincent is text-messaged by Reeve, who asks him to come to Kalm for a meeting.
Some sort of festival is taking place; however, it is interrupted by Deepground,
who attack again and finally reveal themselves. Shelke finds Vincent there, and
she and Azul come after him. However, Shelke faints and Azul takes her away.
Vincent meets Reeve, who's pierced by gunfire, at which point his body comes
apart, revealing Cait Sith, who'd "dressed up" as Reeve. Vincent later meets with
the real Reeve, who tells him Edge is under attack. (It appears that most of the
city had evacuated, as Shalua indicates that only 500 people are "still living here")
[DoC]
• The WRO tries to protect Edge, but Rosso the Crimson kills the entire squad. No
one is left. [DoC]
• Weiss broadcasts a message to everyone, telling them the "pure" will be "spared
for the cause" (i.e. taken to Omega and sacrificed) whereas the "tainted" (i.e.
those with Geostigma) will be hunted down and killed in a variety of nasty ways.
[DoC]
• Vincent and Reeve are attacked on the way to Edge; Vincent makes it there by
himself. He meets Shalua briefly, but their distrust of each other has them go their
own ways. Vincent saves a child from the Deepground forces, who helps him
reach Rosso. Rosso attacks, but Vincent loses control and transforms into Chaos,
blasting Rosso away. [DoC]
• Shalua finds Vincent and takes him to the WRO headquarters, where she tells him
of the existence of Lucrecia's thesis, "The Planet's Pulse", regarding the Chaos
gene. However, Deepground, led by Azul and Shelke, invade and attack while
they're talking. Shelke invades the lab and the two sisters are reunited after ten
years, though Shelke should be nineteen and looks nine. Despite Shalua's gushing,
Shelke attacks. Vincent uses tranquilizer bullets and Shalua takes her away.
However, Azul pursues and attacks, but Reeve and Vincent destroy his Protect
barrier with a rocket, and Vincent defeats him in battle. [DoC]
• Vincent heads towards the Shinra Manor in Nibelheim to find Lucrecia's thesis;
he goes via the sewers to avoid Deepground troops being deployed around it. At
the same time, Cait Sith No. 5 is sent to the Deepground base under Sector 0. He
sees Deepground's sacrifice of the Kalm residents to Omega, but is destroyed by
Nero the Sable before he can do or see anything else. [DoC]
• Vincent finds a hologram data disc of Lucrecia in the basement of Shinra Manor
(the same place where Sephiroth was eight years ago). The disc cryptically
explains that Omega is born of the Lifestream, and its purpose is to usher in the
end of days by cleansing the planet of all living things. He finds four more parts
of the Omega report (these sections appear to have been written by Dr. Grimoire
Valentine, the other four found throughout the game were written by Lucrecia). In
the main hall, he is attacked by Rosso the Crimson and a Deepground battle robot.
With Vincent weakened from battle, she pulls the Protomateria out of Vincent's
body. Without the Protomateria to control it, he transforms into Chaos, but can't
move. Just before she can finish him off, Yuffie arrives and spirits Vincent away.
[DoC]
• Yuffie and Vincent travel back to WRO Headquarters in a truck. Reeve contacts
them to let them know his plan - they intend to launch a full offensive on Midgar
and Deepground headquarters, deep within Mako Reactor 0. Shelke wakes up in a
WRO lab where Shalua has been taking care of her (Azul is also unconscious in
another lab). Shelke takes her weapons and prepares to fight her sister, but Shalua
challenges her and it's a standoff. Meanwhile Azul transforms into a giant
Behemoth-like beast and begins rampaging through WRO HQ. This signals
Deepground to attack again. The alarm sounds, heralding Deepground's arrival.
The truck reaches outside headquarters, but Yuffie gets a bang on the head and is
out for the count, leaving Vincent to deal with the troops. [DoC]
• Vincent meets Shelke and Shalua at the same time that Azul catches up with
them. Azul attacks Shelke, but she neutralizes his barrier. He turns back into a
human and smacks her again, telling her that she's no longer needed, now that the
Protomateria has been found. Shalua grabs Shelke and shoves her and Vincent to
a door which begins closing. She uses her robotic arm to keep the door open while
they get through and apologizes to Shelke for letting her suffer so much. The door
finally closes on her arm, crushing it, just Azul is upon her. All we see is liquid
from her artificial parts seeping beneath the door. [DoC]
• Vincent finds Reeve in a destroyed office after the attack is over. At some point,
the WRO find Shalua unconscious and take her to a regeneration tube. As Yuffie
is watching over her, Vincent and Shelke enter. Shelke cannot understand why
Shalua did what she did, how someone could give their life for another. Vincent
tries to explain that she was Shalua's "reason for living", that that quality is what
makes people human. Reeve tells Vincent that the Omega Reports he found in
Shinra Manor are incomplete. Shelke says that the data fragments inside her head
could be merged with the Omega Reports to complete the information. Just before
this, Cid arrives in the Shera and everyone goes onboard. [DoC]
• Everyone aboard the Shinra works on preparing for the assault on Midgar. Reeve
analyzes the Omega Reports. Shelke works on modifying the Shinra equipment in
order to perform a "Synaptic Net Dive" (Shalua has also been moved on board).
Cid works on piloting and coordinating the attack on the ground with Barret, Tifa,
and Cloud. Yuffie, Cid and the others will attack from the air. [DoC]
• Shelke commences a synaptic net dive with Lucrecia's data, merging the
information. The Shera's bridge erupts into a hologram of space (evoking images
of FF10). Through Lucrecia's voice, Shelke explains that Omega is a sentient
being created of Lifestream. Its role is like a Weapon, but, before the Planet is
about to end, Omega will awaken to gather all life unto it. When it has finished
taking all the Lifestream, it will journey into the stars. So just as souls return to
the Lifestream, so too will the Planet return to whence it came. In essence, Omega
is a "elaborate safety mechanism designed solely to protect the flow of life".
Normally it poses no threate, but Deepground has been trying to awaken it by
sacrificing pure souls to it, convincing the Planet the end is near. Reeve reports
that Omega is being created from Reactor 0, which itself is being fed from the
other 8 reactors. The air and ground assaults are meant to destroy the other 8
reactors and cut off Omega's supply of Mako/Lifestream while Vincent infiltrates
Reactor 0, at the center of Midgar. [DoC]
• Before they land, Vincent loses control of Chaos again. However, before anything
nasty can happen, an image Lucrecia appears to him and calms him down. Shelke
gives Vincent his cell phone back and tells him he can use it to contact her so she
can guide him on the way to Deepground. [DoC]
• The attack begins, the missiles fly. Yuffie and the first wave fly out the Shera on
some sort of "hoverboard". The ground troops clash and Rosso meets Cloud head
on. Azul attacks the airships with a giant rocket launcher, hitting the Shera.
Vincent escapes an explosion with the second wave and glides down to Midgar
dodging shots. Shelke contacts him and tells him he's missed his target, landing in
the Train Graveyard (yep, the same one we saw at the beginning of FF7). Shelke
guides him through the graveyard to the center of city, and the central complex.
But he finds Rosso at the entrance to the Shinra Building. Midway through battle,
she turns into Bloodburst Rosso. He defeats her, but rather than give anyone the
pleasure of killing her, she destroys the part of the building she's standing on, and
falls into the depths. [DoC]
• Shelke tells Vincent that the assault on the other Mako Reactors has not been
completed, they are still functioning. From the central complex, the only way to
Mako Reactor 0 is to go up into a secret entrance in the President's office. Vincent
is again assailed by Chaos, who tries to awaken. Shelke/Lucrecia explains that
Chaos exists inside him, but independently. It is the being who will "gather all
life" for Omega at the end of the Planet. [DoC]
• Shelke's helmet malfunctions and she loses contact. She goes up to the bridge to
see what's going on. Cid notices engine levels dropping; Shelke goes to
investigate. She finds the engine room half-destroyed, and meets Nero the Sable
there. He has already killed the entire crew. Shelke attacks him, but he draws her
into his darkness. Shelke survives by using her magic to form a spherical shield
against the darkness, but the shield has already begun weakening. [DoC]
• Vincent travels through the Shinra building and finds the way to the
undercomplex of Shinra HQ. When Vincent tries calling Shelke, he gets "User
Not Available". Immediately after, though, he's then contacted by Cloud, Tifa,
and Barret on his cellphone. They tell him they lost contact with the airship and
send him a map of the Shinra Building (remember, he wasn't with them when they
were there the first time). [DoC]
• When Vincent gets on the elevator to take him to Mako Reactor 0/Deepground
HQ, he encounters Azul. They battle, the second round Azul turns into Arch Azul
- his beast form. Vincent is simply not strong enough to kill him. He then turns
into Chaos, and transforms Azul back to human. Then he hurls Azul's own gun
right through his chest. Azul laughs and drops into the abyss. Vincent goes
unconscious as Nero hovers nearby. He drops Shelke's cellphone near his body
before vanishing. [DoC]
• On his way through the underground city, Vincent is suddenly engulfed by Nero's
darkness, but Shelke tells him darkness cannot control him since he has Chaos
and a part of him was born from it. He escapes the darkness unharmed. At the
gateway into the reactor, he meets and fights Nero, who drags him into darkness
again after telling him that Shelke is in there too. Vincent lets himself be
swallowed by the darkness; this time, he finds Shelke and gives her back her
cellphone before taking her out with him. Nero attacks again, but Yuffie
intervenes just like in Shinra manor, and he disappears. [DoC]
• Vincent finds a room with a Mako tube (similar to what Cloud and Zack had in
Shinra Manor) and puts Shelke in one so that she can recover. Vincent goes off to
find Nero and Weiss, and Yuffie goes after the reactor; however, their paths soon
converge. [DoC]
• They find Weiss, dead (or unconscious) at the center of the reactor. Nero stops
them, though, shoving them into his darkness again. Vincent grabs Yuffie and
escapes it yet again. Nero transports Vincent some bizarre realm (think Xen from
Half-Life) and transforms into Arachnero. Midway through battle, he transforms
into Gorgonero, but Vincent defeats him as well. After it's over, they come back
to the reactor room and Nero stumbles toward his brother Weiss the Translucent,
who is beginning to awaken. [DoC]
• Weiss spears him through his chest, saying he has no more use for him, and tosses
him aside. Weiss reveals that he is really none other than Hojo. The "Fragment
Program" he initiated at Meteorfall dispersed his consciousness throughout the
computer networks, then was brought back together. Now, using Weiss as his
indestrucible body, he will merge with Omega to "traverse the cosmos in a blaze
of glory", just as Vincent has merged with Chaos. (His original plan was to
perfect his body by injecting JENOVA cells, but we all see how that turned out).
Vincent attacks Weiss/Hojo but has his ass handed to him. Lucrecia/Shelke
appears to him and urges him to control Chaos rather than letting it control him.
Vincent succeeds in doing it, using Weiss's Protomateria to use Chaos's power
while still in human form. Vincent battles Weiss Empowered, and defeats him,
flinging him into a wall, rendering him unconscious. [DoC]
• Nero gets up, having become "Dark Nero" and stumbles over to the incapcitated
Weiss/Hojo. Helpless, Hojo watches "Dark Nero" embrace his brother and merge
with him. The impurity of the darkness drives Hojo out and he disappears.
Weiss/Nero walks to the Mako reactor and the Mako bursts up. Outside Midgar, a
giant Weapon begins to form, attaching tubes of Lifestream from the reactors and
feeding from it. Omega has awakened, and Vincent has transformed into Chaos.
However, Chaos is unable to damage Omega, due to some sort of forcefield.
[DoC]
• Shelke does a synaptic net dive into Omega, treating the Lifestream that makes it
up as a giant network, in order to find the Protomateria. Being restricted by ropes
of darkness, she finds a bright light obscuring a woman (Lucrecia) holding it out
to her. Shelke (or her astral projection) bursts out of Omega's head, and dives
toward Chaos. Shelke shoves the Protomateria in his chest (and an image of
Lucrecia bathed in white pushes it in further, before she is wrapped in a black
strand and pulled back into Omega's wound, where his head reforms). Lucrecia's
memories and true feelings seep into him. Newly invigorated, Vincent/Chaos
rescues Shelke, materializes a gun out of midair (known as "Death Penalty") and
tells her that "he has a story to end". [DoC]
• While Vincent/Chaos tries to get closer to Omega, Cloud, Yuffie, and the others
finally manage to blow the reactors, separating Omega's ties to Lifestream and
some of his strength. With the cheers of his friends in the background,
Vincent/Chaos dives into Omega. He works his way through to the core, being
hampered by organic security probes. He finally manages to destroy the Omega
Cocoon which holds Weiss inside. After freeing Weiss, they scuffle. Then Weiss
attaches to a giant machine monster through strands of Mako and becomes Omega
Weiss. After his defeat, Weiss sinks into the ground. Outside, Omega crystallizes.
His majestic wings become alive and he begins ascending to the sky.
Vincent/Chaos soars out of Omega and flies ahead. As the counterbalance to
Omega, only he can end it. Vincent/Chaos flies forward into Omega and causes a
giant explosion (one that can be seen from space!). However, the explosion
apparently harms no one, and the white cloud disappears. There's no trace of
Omega or Chaos. The particles of Lifestream disperse, along with a collection of
purple fragments (Chaos), and return to the Planet. [DoC]
• We also see Shalua's tube standing somewhere in Midgar. The glass is cracked
and she remains prone. Her fate remains unknown. [DoC]
• One week later, Shelke is adjusting to a normal life and has some coffee in the
refurbished 7th Heaven Bar in Edge. Tifa, Yuffie, and Red XIII are also there.
Cloud is searching for someone (Vincent or Shalua). But Shelke knows where he
is. [DoC]
• Vincent is visiting Lucrecia's waterfall cave again and leaves after he says to her
"Thank you. It was you. You were the reason I survived." We see a single tear
drop from the crystallized form in the cave. He goes outside to see Shelke waiting
for him, watching the cloud-like remnants of Omega in the sky. [DoC]
• Underneath Midgar, Weiss lies on a slab of rock, his gun-swords at his side. A
mysterious man, known only as G, appears and says "It is not yet time for
slumber. There is still much to do, my brother". His eyes shine with mako and a
white wing sprouts out of his left side. He flies off. (This is a a secret scene, only
shown if you collected all three "G-Reports") [DoC]

500 A.G.:

• Red XIII and his grandchildren climb to the top of Cosmo Canyon and look at the
ruins of Midgar, now covered in greenery and forest. [FF7 and AC]
