1. What is planning?
The term "planning" refers to the process of identifying the relationship between
work processes and the sequence in which they are carried out.
2. Why site visit before making plans is vital?
Before making plans, site visit of the proposed site is important in order to determine
the probable layout of the yard or compound as to the location of the field.
3. What is qualitative evaluation?
Qualitative evaluation refers to evaluation of alternatives using intuition and
subjective judgment.
4. What is quantitative evaluation?
Quantitative evaluation refers to the evaluation of alternatives using any technique in
a group classified as rational and analytical.
5. What is overhead cost?
Overhead cost refers to the continuing costs of running a firm, however it does not
include the direct costs of producing a product or service.
6. What is direct cost?
Direct costs are the expenses incurred directly by a business to produce a product
or service, or to purchase a wholesale product for resale.
7. What is indirect cost?
Indirect costs are the costs of running a business and bringing a product or service
to market, independent of volume produced or sold. They have nothing to do with
creating a product or providing a service, or with purchasing a wholesale product to
resell.
8. Why time is important to be considered in construction project?
Time is critical to construction projects It is important to assign time to jobs in order
to complete the project on schedule. Ineffective decision-making and increased stress in
the team might result from poor time management. This will ultimately result in the
project's failure.
9. Why scheduling is important?
Scheduling is important because it answers the question of when a task, work,
mission, process, operation, or project should be completed. It identifies when an
operation or project should begin and establishing time sequences in order to fulfill
deadlines or due dates.
10. What is milestone chart?
Milestone chart is a very simple chart indicating the activity, starting and completion
time.
11. What is Gantt chart?
The Gantt chart is a planning and scheduling tool for simple projects. The project
engineer can use the chart to plan out project operations and track progress over time
by comparing planned and actual progress.
12. What is CPM network?
CPM – is the Critical Path Method. The CPM is a method for planning, assessing,
and supervising a construction project in a systematic manner. It also provides
additional information for project control and other purposes that other project
scheduling methods do not.
13. What is PERT network?
PERT – is the Program Evaluation and Review Technique. It is a project
management tool that is particularly suited for non-repetitive research and development
projects, which are sometimes referred to as "Once Through" projects. The duration of
activity in research and development projects is unpredictable.
14. What is node in a network diagram?
The nodes in a network diagram represent the beginning and end points of activities
known as events. They do not consume resources or time, unlike activities.
15. What is an arrow in a network diagram?
Arrows represent the activities in a network diagram.
16. What is an activity in a network diagram?
In a network diagram, an activity is an item of work represented by arrows. This
activity is dependent on and cannot begin until all prior activities have been completed.
17. What is an event in a network diagram?
An event in a network diagram is the starting point or ending point of an activity
represented by a circle, square or any geometrical form.
18. What is earliest start in a CPM network?
Earliest start (Es) is the earliest time that an activity can be started.
19. What is earliest finish in a CPM network?
Earliest finish (Ef) is the earliest time that an activity can be finished. It is the earliest
starting time plus the duration of an activity. Ef = Es + D
20. What is latest start?
Latest start (Ls) is the latest time than an activity may be started without delaying the
completion of a project represented. Ls = Lf – D
21. What is Latest finish?
Latest finish (Lf) is the latest time that an activity can be finished without delaying the
completion of the project. Lf = Ls + D
22. What is free float?
Free Float (FF) is the amount of time that the finish of an activity can be delayed
without delaying the earliest time for a following activity. FF = Es (succeeding activity) –
Ef (of the present activity in question)
23. What is total float?
Total float (Tf) is the amount of time that the start or finish of an activity can be
delayed without delaying the completion of the project. Tf = Lf – Ef or Ls – Es
24. What is critical path?
Critical path is the longest path in a project's network of activities. The critical path is
a network of interconnected activities in which each activity has a zero float time.
25. What are critical activities?
Critical activities are activities that take place along the critical path. Any delay in
their completion will cause a project's completion to be delayed.
26. What is a PATH?
A path is a series or sequence of activities that connects the starting and ending
nodes.
