J Listening
Listen to someone talking about his family and where he lives and underline the
correct information.
My name’s Luis and I’m from Spain. I’m 28 years old and I’m married. My wife’s
name is Ewa, that’s E-W-A, she’s Polish. We have one son. His name is Carlos, he’s
two years old. We live in a flat in London. There are lots of big houses on our street
and there are some shops. There is a small café too and the people there are very
friendly. There isn’t a shopping centre nearby, but there is a cinema which we like to
visit.
Listen to the words and match them to the correct stress patterns.

Listen to someone talking about their job. Are the sentences true (T) or false (F)?
I’m really lucky – I have the perfect job, I’m a park ranger in a national park. I work in
the Smoky Mountains. It’s in the south of the USA. I don’t work a 9 to 5 job,
sometimes I work early in the morning and I often work on the weekends. I always
work outdoors – I love it! I usually eat a big breakfast and I drink lots of hot coffee.
The park is open every day and it’s free. It’s great for walking and fishing. It’s busy in
the summer, but my favourite season is fall when the trees are beautiful.
Vincent Van Gogh was born on the thirtieth of March, 1853 in the Netherlands. In
1869 he started his first job, but he didn’t find the job interesting. In 1880, at the age
of 27, Van Gogh decided to become an artist. In 1888 he moved to Provence in
southern France and he painted his famous ‘Sunflowers’ paintings. He invited
Gauguin, another artist, to visit him and one night they had an argument. The next
day Van Gogh cut off part of his own ear. On the twenty-ninth of July, 1890, at the
age of 37, Van Gogh died.
