INTRODUCTION

Abadeha
Myrna J. De La Paz

Abadeha is a fictional story written by Myrna J. De La

Paz way back in 1991 in Manila, Philippines. The blend of indigenous and Christian traditions is

the source of inspiration for the cultural activism in La Paz’s works in writing. Manila, is where

Abadeha was written, is the capital of the Philippines, where indigenous culture and spiritual

beliefs are practices parallel with Christianity.

Manila is located in the region of NCR or the National Capital Region, which is also known as

Metropolitan Manila; it is the smallest region of the country yet its political, economic, and

educational center, it is also the most densely populated region which is home to over 12 million

Filipinos.

The small landmass of NCR didn’t restrain the region from contributing to their country’s

abundant literature; yet they still able to provide some of the finest authors in the country, such

as Andres Bonifacio, Liwayway Arceo, Emilio Jacinto, Severino Reyes, and Myrna de La Paz

who is the author of Abadeha. Aside from Abadeha, there are still a lot of award-winning literary

works. who came from the region such ‘Sa Anak ng Bayan’, Pag-ibig sa Tinubuang Lupa ,

and Isang Dipang Langit.

Abadeha is the Filipino version of Cinderalla, which was set in the exotic islands of the

Philippines. This tale captures the mystical charm of the indigenous culture of the Filipinos.

Colorful images of pre-colonial Philippine scenes, costumes, architecture, and folkways vividly

enhance the enchanting tale. This retelling of lasting value and universal appeal conveys the deep

respect and reverence for nature and the earth inherent in the forever-loved story that will never

grow old.
