We chatted for awhile but | must confess that had the greatest difcultyin finding out ‘what was on their minds, ‘They introduced themselves as performers, Iwas fascinated when they started to demonstrate some of their capabilities. One of them pretended tobe leaped in glass box and although I was only fet away I believe it totaly: It wasbbecoming obvious to me that Andrew Dawson and Gavin Robertson were very talented and very special people, and no wun chattnd some mare. But what did they want from me? [Eveitualy they came tothe point; they wanted to get ‘beo hats made, a Thunderbitd hat anal a Thunderbird 2 hat. Well there are some prety strange people around and I've met few in my time, but this beats everything, 1 recommended them #04 model maker and of they ‘went, Sone time later | heard that they had creted ‘THUNDERBIRDS FAB and were playing in stall venues with great success. Iwas invited Yo oe ofthe performances and if were tobe honest only went ‘because I didn’t want to hur their felings. ‘When the show started I could not believe what Iwas seeing it was great. They had accomplished something that vory few creative people achieve in a lifetime. total originality. The show not only demonstrated theistemendows talent but ithad the audience falling about inthe aisles. But they were not unkind about my programme and for that Iwas particularly grateful Gavin and Andy have now taken the show to Hong ‘Kong, Singapore, the USA and Australasia, Theit crowning glory eame in 1989 when they tok on the ‘Wiest End and won by setting a new box office record for the Apollo Theatre, Shaftesbury Avene. ‘After suchan achievement it was inevitable that they would move on to new work and I wish them as much success with thee latest show, ‘The Three Musketeers” as they have had inthe past. However, when we looked closely atthe wealth of material available from that and other Anderson series, we decided tobase the whole performance around them, People who have sen the show often askhow much research we did.
