Objectives: At the end of this lesson the students will be able to:
 Talk about times when people get surprises and excited
 Recognize exclaiming sentences
 Form exclaiming sentences correctly
 Use the correct punctuation mark for exclaiming sentences

Get Started

The picture shows a road accident. What would you do if you


were around when the accident happened?

 Read the dialog that follows and see what the children did to
help.
Cris : Hey , Norman ! Did you see what happened to the
taxicab?
Norman : No , I did not . What happened?
Cris : The taxicab hit the light post ! We have to call the
police!
Norman : We had better call for an ambulance ,Let us go .
Cris : Let us pray that help arrives immediately. They
need to be taken to the hospital soon.
Answer these questions.

Grammar notes:
A sentence that expresses a strong feeling is called an exclaiming
sentence. It ends with an exclamation pion ( ! ).

Many times people get excited , frightened , or surprised. When they


get excited , they often say expression such as the following:

I won ! Wow , how nice it is!

Help ! Hey , come back !

Hurry , let us go ! That is terrific!

What a surprise !

Activity 1
Write these exclaiming sentences correctly on the lines. Use
the correct punctuation mark. Be sure to capitalize the first letter of
the first word at the beginning of the sentence.
