Background/Significance
Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia
BPH, also known as prostatism, results from noncancerous
enlargement of the prostate gland that is associated with advance
age. This condition affects 50% of men between the ages of 51-60
and up to 90% of men older than 80.
Intervention
Medical treatment generally includes medications and surgery. The
two most frequently used types of medications are alpha-blockers
and 5-alpha-reductase inhibitors.
