Catheter installation

Catheterization allows the patients urine to drain freely from the bladder for collection . It may be
used to inject liquids used for treatment or diagnosis of bladder conditions .

Types of Catheters ;
a) Folleys. Catheter
b) Irrigation catheter
c) Coude catheter
d) Condom catheter
e) Urinary catheter

PROCEDURE UNTUK CARA PEGANUKAN UNTUK CATHETERISATION

1) Pengenalkan ; here we first introduce ourselves to the patient

2) Identity ; verbal confirmation of the patient , check the file and confirm

3) Jelaskan ; jelaskan procedure to patient

4) Equipment; gather all the equipment , check the type and size of catheter

5) Allergies ; kita chari latex allergies Dan allergies to lubricants or oxylocaine

6) Chunchi tangan .

7) Position of the patient Kalo untuk perempuwan we use lithotomy position Kalo untuk men
we use supine position

8) Open the sterile drapes and place in position

9) Cover the area with sterile dressing and minimize the exposure

10) Cleaning; place sterile drape , use separate cotton balls to clean the perineal region

11) Lubricantion ; open the sterile packaging of the catheter , apply the xylophone jelly on the
tip to 4cm

Perempuwan

A) Insert the catheter approximately 5 to 6cm . Once urine has started draining Unser a
further 3 to 5 cm
B) Inflate the balloon
C) Sterile water / 0.9% saline water

Laki laki

A) Insert the catheter until urine has started to drain, then insert a further 5cm or
almost up to the bifurcation
B) Inflate the balloon
C) Sterile water / 0. 9 % saline water
12) Measure the amount of urine

13) Ensure the patient is comfortable

14) On completion of procedure remove and dispose of PPE and the articles used according to
the hospital policy

15) Record information in patient health records

16) Give explanation on care of catheter and reinforce

17) Complete recording
