Seminar Topic: "Work-Teach Balance among Working Parents during Homeschool"

Date: June 16, 2020
Venue: Youtube Live Stream
Speaker: Vibal Group: Ms. Edna V. Bañaga

My Takeaway/Insight from the Seminar:

At this point in time, education will feel a resounding effect from the COVID-19 outbreak for
months, from students missing school to canceled standardized tests to school leaders rethinking how
to evaluate student success. In the meantime, schools have transitioned to remote learning, forcing
parents to simultaneously manage their kids’ schooling and their own jobs. Homeschool while working
a full-time job is really challenging because you can’t devote one hundred percent of time to children
and to your job. Parents need to keep in mind that academics are not the most important, especially
while living in a pandemic. If parents are going to have a really high standard for themselves and
compare themselves to a teacher who went to school and is well trained in how to do it, they’re going
to feel disappointed. The most important thing is the whole person, for the person to be well, and then
academics are second.

Reflection (My own plan of implementing my learning to my area of responsibility.):

There are two things we can say with certainty about the future, it will be different, and it will
be a surprise. Now, leaders and teachers have to navigate unfamiliar, challenging times, a quickening
pace of change, increasing expectations, and a rising tide of rapidly-evolving conditions. This new and
different environment, a VUCA World is challenging leaders and teachers to find new ways to achieve
sustained success. In a VUCA world what is needed is to give yourself time to adjust, be realistic, not
pessimistic, create a routine and stick with it, be flexible and open- minded, recognize your limits and
ask for help when needed and clarify your goals and expectations.
I am pleased to take this opportunity and I look forward to making a significant, positive
impact on the lives of each of my students.
