Addition and subtraction of complex numbers is most easily performed in rectangular coordinates.
Given two complex numbers A and B , defined as:

A = a + jb
B = c + jd

the sum and difference of the complex number can be determined by:

A + B = ( a + c ) + j( b + d )

and

A − B = ( a − c ) + j( b − d )
