What’s More

The news was regarding about a biker who died during the
enhanced community quarantine while he was traversing EDSA.According to a
social media post by Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) special traffic
and transport zone headed by Bong Nebrija, a biker collapsed Friday morning
while biking EDSA.The report did not identify the biker, but he said he was a
former MMDA employee.
In addition, referring Nebrija’s report, he said that the biker may have
suffered from heat stroke since the public transportation are prohibited,
prompting many workers to resort to alternative means of transportation such as
bicycles, for them to report to work.
However, physical activities are seen to be helpful, but they often
carry hazards, especially if safeguards are not taken. There are possible risks or
problems that you may encountered while conducing similar physical activities.
The early symptoms that may linked to this are dehydration, which refers to
excessive loss of water from the body through respiration and urination.
Symptoms that are usually linked includes feeling thirsty, dark yellow and strong-
smelling urine, feeling dizzy or lightheaded, feeling tired, a dry mouth, lips, and
eyes and peeing little but when you are dehydrated, you can no longer be able to
cool itself because of hypothermia which the body temperature can rise enough
too high.
Moreover, the health-related illness of hypothermia are heat cramps,
heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Begin with heat cramps, by having painful
cramps in abdomen or legs, weaknesses and dizziness and the signs are heavy
sweating and warm skin besides this condition is mild that can lead to heat
exhaustion, where there is a rapid and shallow breathing, weak pulse, cold skin,
and heavy breathing including the symptoms of weakness, nausea, and
dizziness. When unattended, this may take to head stroke, wherein the body
temperature reaches very high levels owing to constant heat exposure through
having deep, then swallow breathing, full rapid pulse, and dry hot skin along with
the symptoms the same with heat exhaustion.
Therefore, before doing moderate to vigorous physical activities
(MVPA) like bicycling, make sure you’re fit enough to endure the distance and
heat considering safety factors while pedaling to avoid injuries and accident.
