• Activity 4

1. The poem's characters include the woman, man, and children; however, the
poetry focuses on the relationship which I think is the wife and husband. I can see
that the man was violent and that the woman was the victim of his rage.

2. “But I know he must be sorry; Because he sent me flowers today” the woman
said, proving that she was the one who spoke the poem.

3. The situation of the speaker was depressing – thinking of flowers as an apology

for a torturous life. The proof was “I’m afraid of him and scared to leave. But I
know he must be sorry; Because he sent me flowers today”

4. In the poem, the author expressed a melancholy sentiment. I believe the author
intends for the audience to be moved by the tragedy of women's violence.

5. This poetry made me sad, and I certainly felt her anguish (the woman in the
poem). If I were in her shoes, I would seek assistance from the authorities and
leave the abuser as quickly as possible.
