Instrument performance and characteristics (static characteristics of instrument)

Objectives: Study the statics characteristics of instrument by define different type of instrument
(mechanical, electrical and electronic type) and their sensors and /or transducers arriving to define
the calibration curve or equations for these instrument.

Introduction; One of the most important procedure before using any instrument is to check the
characteristics of it and that mean static and dynamic characteristics beside define the calibration
curve or equation and to do that it must be employing standards. This experimental limited by
static characteristics as shown below.

Static characteristics of instrument: In below the most popular of the static characteristics of
instrument beside other terms;

- Units
- Accuracy
- Error
- Precision
- Resolution
- Repeatability
- Reproducibility
- Range
- Linearity
- Sensitivity
- Response
- Threshold
- Scale

Where the instruments can by classified to

- Null type instrument

- Active and passive (sometimes call to the sensors and or/ transducers)
- Analog and digital
- Smart and non-smart instruments (sensors)

Result and discussion:

Briefly:
1- Discuss the calibration curve between actual and measured value.
2- Give the meaning of the characteristics of instrument and write sample for each
3- Explain method to reduce the error causes in this experiment.
4- Write 10 instruments and give their function and units
5- Write 10 sensors or/and transducers and show if it passive or active, digital or analog
