In my opinion, people should attend college. First of all, people who have
earned a college degree are more likely to land a secure job with benefits upon
graduation. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, in May 2021 the
unemployment rate for people 25 and older with at least a bachelor’s degree
was 3.2%, while the unemployment rate for high school graduates with no
college degree was 6.8%. Secondly, college can also teach you valuable skills
that will help you succeed in any career. You’ll learn leadership skills if you’re
a teaching assistant or a leader of a student group. You’ll gain valuable time-
management skills as you balance coursework, extracurriculars and time with
friends. Finally, college helps you find your direction. Most schools don’t
require a student to declare a major until the end of their sophomore year. That
gives you two whole years to work on general courses and explore different
majors. In conclusion, college is a great option after high school, but it’s not the
only one.
